Book Synopsis Environmental policy tools : a user's guide. by :
Download or read book Environmental policy tools : a user's guide. written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1995 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for 'smarter' ways to prevent or control pollution has generated heated debate on almost every conceivable topic related to setting goals, improving institutional arrangements, and choosing the most effective means for achieving those goals. This last issue choosing the means or policy instruments to meet environmental goals can be a surprisingly complex task for decision makers, given the need to balance other competing concerns. The environmental policy toolbox contains many and varied instruments but lacks a clear set of instructions for their use. This OTA report fills that need. The 'guide' is organized into three major sections: (1) The Environmental Policy Toolbox: a discussion of 12 major policy tools, their frequency of use, and key strengths and weaknesses. (2) The Criteria for Comparing Tools: our evaluation of how effective these instruments are in achieving the values and interests or criteria decision makers are likely to weigh. (3) Choosing Tools: a series of questions for matching a tool or tools to a specific problem. Choosing tools that satisfy several, much less all, of these criteria for a specific problem is the challenge. Unfortunately, no perfect policy tool exists to meet everyone's expectations for every problem.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Air Pollution Prevention and Control by : Nicholas P Cheremisinoff
Download or read book Handbook of Air Pollution Prevention and Control written by Nicholas P Cheremisinoff and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-08-22 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Air Pollution Prevention and Control provides a concise overview of the latest technologies for managing industrial air pollution in petrochemical, oil and gas, and allied industries. Detailed material on equipment selection, sizing, and troubleshooting operations is provided along with practical design methodology. Unique to this volume are discussions and information on energy-efficient technologies and approaches to implementing environmental cost accounting measures.Included in the text are sidebar discussions, questions for thinking and discussing, recommended resources for the reader (including Web sites), and a comprehensive glossary. The Handbook of Air Pollution Prevention and Control also includes free access to US EPA's air dispersion model SCREEN3. Detailed examples on the application of this important software to analyzing air dispersion from industrial processes and point sources are provided in the Handbook, along with approaches to applying this important tool in developing approaches to pollution prevention and in selecting control technologies. By applying SCREEN3, along with the examples given in the Handbook, the user can: evaluate the impact of processes and operations to air quality, and apply the model to assess emergency scenarios to help in planning, to develop environmental impact assessments, to select pollution control technologies, and to develop strategies for pollution prevention. Two companion books by Cheremisinoff are available:Handbook of Water and Wastewater Treatment Technologies, and Handbook of Solid Waste Management and Waste Minimization Technologies. Uniquely combines prevention and control concepts while covering the practices and technologies that are applied to the prevention of air pollution in the chemicals manufacturing, oil and gas, iron and steel, and pharmaceutical industries, and to the cleaning and control of industrial air emissions. Provides a bridge for today's environmental manager by focusing on an integrated approach to managing air pollution problems within industrial operations. Shows you how to calculate financial returns from pollution prevention projects.

Book Synopsis Social cost-benefit analysis of air pollution control measures - Advancing environmental-economic assessment methods to evaluate industrial point emission sources by : van der Kamp, Jonathan
Download or read book Social cost-benefit analysis of air pollution control measures - Advancing environmental-economic assessment methods to evaluate industrial point emission sources written by van der Kamp, Jonathan and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book enhances economic methods for social cost-benefit analysis of air pollution control measures at point emission sources. A new and highly resolved health damage cost assessment framework is developed and applied, notably in order to evaluate the influence of site-dependent and generic methodological choices. Several of these are shown to have a major impact on resulting health damage costs with important implications for decision-making.
