Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real world of law enforcement often bears little similarity to the action-packed police dramas depicted on television and in the movies. Many people who are drawn into a career in law enforcement have little knowledge about the trials and tribulations faced by police officers in contemporary society. Author James Warner offers an objective point of view on this crisis in his insightful book 101 Reasons Why You Should Not Become A Cop. With a diverse background including over nineteen years of experience as a police officer, traffic officer, police supervisor, and field-training supervisor, Warner delivers an honest portrayal of the negative aspects of law enforcement. He has spent numerous years collecting true-life experiences from present and retired officers-and from ex-police officers who resigned from the force. Some of the stories include: The Heavy Badge Syndrome Injuries on the Job The Quasi-Military Nature of Law Enforcement Marriage Is a Hobby 101 Reasons Why Not To Become A Cop is a valuable resource for anyone considering a career in law enforcement, as well as a source of humor and comfort for veteran officers.

Book excerpt: Robert Leon Davis was a respected police officer in New Orleans serving for four years until 1979-when he was arrested. He had begun his career with aspirations of being a great cop. But he was exposed to a darker side of law enforcement. While partnered with a veteran Robert first witnessed an officer violate the very laws he vowed to uphold - and shared his crime. One compromise led to another, and Davis faced arrest. From studying criminal law at Loyola University and becoming an award winning officer, Davis was a fugitive, living off the land in remote forests in America and Canada to elude capture. The church upbringing, where his grandmother made sure he learned about God and Jesus, was abandoned in anger. Through a stranger's prayer the angry atheist realised he was weary of running. He yielded his life to God, and gave himself in. When the District Attorney finally dusted off his file, what would his sentence be?

Book excerpt: We are enamored with stories about cops, but rarely do we get a chance to walk in the shoes of one while reading about the personal and spiritual battles waged when one is fighting crime. Jim's narrative will pull you into the moment of each crisis. These stories are the material of movies but they happened in real life. Jim will weave his experiences into the truth taught in Scripture. Whether or not you are part of the law enforcement community, you will be entertained by the adventures. Regardless of your relationship with Christ, you will be challenged to do something with the claims made by Jesus. There is engaging action in this book, but the serious purpose is that it will serve as a challenging devotional guide and bring you closer to Christ.

Most are called to do God’s will, to help, to protect, to serve the community, Some do it for the wrong reasons, power, dominance, to carry a gun and a badge, to abuse others. These things are not the will of God!

Every new police officer has ambitions for making a difference in their community and are convinced their service in law enforcement helps do that. Over the course of a police officer's career, the crime rate in that community will increase, many crimes will go unsolved, and the suffering and difficulties common in life will not discriminate between the wealthy and the poor. However, there is a way to make a positive difference, a lasting difference. It takes humility, compassion and an open heart and mind, but the impact one can have on society can influence generations to come. Can we live in such a way that we relate to suffering with the people who suffer, stand with people who face difficulties, laugh with the people who laugh and run to the people who need us? Of course. We all need a compass to give us perspective. The Bible is that compass for me. In it, I have discovered we can learn about how God made a difference in this world by sending His Son to become one of us. He suffered like we suffer. He shared his life with others. He didn't need to, and He certainly made Himself vulnerable for doing so. But He stands as a lasting example to all who come after Him how we can make a difference by doing the same, whether we are police officers, realtors, doctors, or any other people related profession. This book is reflective and inspirational, intended to ask questions worth contemplating. Combining real world experience as a police officer and parallel stories in the Bible, we can discover that the challenges, questions and struggles we face today are no different than the issues mankind has faced for thousands of years. The goal is for you and me to understand both well enough that we can stand together with others in their struggles. As Christ became one of us, perhaps others will say that about us.

Book excerpt: America has become increasingly divided and polarized in recent years. With growing racial tension, animosity toward law enforcement professionals, government corruption, and disregard for the constitutional process, there seems to be no easy answer in sight. But Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke knows where we must begin: we must stop blaming others; look at our problems with open eyes; take ownership of our family, community, and country; and turn to God for solutions. Deeply rooted in Sheriff Clarke's personal life story, this book is not a dry recitation of what has gone wrong in America with regard to race. It's about the issues that deeply affect us today both personally and politically and how we can rise above our current troubles to once again be a truly great people in pursuit of liberty and justice for all. Foreword by Sean Hannity.

Book excerpt: Wounded in the line of duty and paralyzed, police officer Brandon Hultink made an amazing journey from despair to hope. "I can still remember the taste of metal in my mouth from the barrel of the gun ..." After the shoot-out that put him in a wheelchair, police officer Brandon Hultink was ready to put an end to it all. In his frank and compelling memoir The Backpack, Hultink tells how he came to the worst moment of his life, and how faith in God and the humility to accept help brought him out of depression, addiction, and the wheelchair and back into successful life. But Hultink's story isn't his alone—it is also the story of the thousands of police officers who struggle with depression and post-traumatic stress. Cops don't do touchy-feely; they stuff every trauma into a metaphorical "backpack" until the burden overwhelms them. Hultink writes unflinchingly of the mental health crisis affecting police officers and offers proposals for improving mental health services for police. An intensely personal story of anguish and survival, The Backpack offers hope to everyone—police and civilian alike—who struggles with depression and pain.

Book excerpt: A Police Officer's life is a living book and every day is a different page. It can be labeled as drama, suspense, romance, Sci-Fi or even comedy, because lives as a Police Officer are all those things. It is Jesus Christ who has chosen us and we accepted. We endeavor to be the good men and women that David speaks about when said, "the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand" (Psalms 37:23-24, KJV). Though we lay our lives on the line each day, we fear no evil, for he is with us, and we put our trust in the Lord and believe that, "He will never leave us nor forsake us." I was a Minister before I became a Police Officer and this seemed to be a problem to the church. When the place I worked shut down, not one person from the church brought me a loaf of bread or a bag of beans, so I thought it's better to listen to God and not man. Though the job of a Law Enforcement Officer can be dangerous and challenging, again we turn to God's word for courage: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this I will be confident. One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life..." (Psalms 27:1-4, NKJV). This book enlightens us of the challenges that officers face daily, and the temptations and the horrors that brake down the walls of sensitivity. It gives information to help officers to deal with family problems and to assist agencies in being more cognizant of the mental and physical health of their officers. The cases shared are enlightening and entertaining.
