The poem was a submission for my book "Can I Borrow Your Face?"At the time Newbon lived in Granada, Nicaragua. One thing I discovered during a trip out there is that poetry goes into being Nicaraguan like flour goes into bread. Perhaps Newbon was a seed planted in the volcanic soils of Central America or merely a sponge which absorbed the country's great poetic spirit.Unaware of Brenton's writing skill I expected the reading aloud of his submission to be the equivalent of bowling balls dropping on frying pans. However, from the very first line of his poem I walked away with my soul, heart, blood and flesh. Upon finishing it I felt as if I was floating like helium-filled balloons! Comparing form and content of versions of representative poems from the collection, Mandell analyzes the evaluation not only of Lawrence's poetic style but also of his ideas concerning human and physical nature. She contends that Lawrence was a mature poet with a developed system of poetic and philosophical thought by 1917, when he published Look! We Have Come Through! At that time he rewrote extensively.
