Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does one summarize an eclectic collection of words that express the jumbled sets of complex emotions spanning a lifetime? What they mean to those who were the motivation for their creation cannot begin to be expressed to "mere" readers who happen upon this book as passersby to a recent accident. You see the results, but needed to have been there to fully feel the impact on your emotions. Yet poetry, like art of a more physical nature, has meaning to each of us on our own level. It is with that thought in mind that the author submits these poems to the world. If nothing is gained from the reading, but a single laugh; a solitary tear, or one knowing nod of the head; then the job will have been worth the doing. Please walk the path of life a little less quickly and hug those you love a bit more often.

Book excerpt: Poetry is not just a form of entertainment; it is also a form of expression. Poetry can take any form, ranging from the simple to the complex. It can put images in your head, and it can even become a way of life. With poetry, it’s not just about expressing how and what you feel but about giving others the opportunity to feel how you felt, too. From a child who knows nothing except the mean kids at school to a teenager falling in love for the first time to a middle-aged adult facing the hardships of a job, poetry is for anyone and everyone. It lets you say on the page what you could never dream of saying out loud. It is a safe, comforting armor that protects as well as inspires. Truth in Emotion is a collection of varied poems, ranging in topics like friendship, love, and death. Most of these poems were written based on author Shadlynn Burch’s personal experiences while others randomly popped into her head. Shadlynn shares these poems with the hope that maybe you will find refuge in the written word as she has.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry is something that we all share, each time that we think a thought. We think in poetry, only some of us are not able to put it in words but thoughts of poetry live in our hearts. We are filled with emotions and that is what poetry is. You need to just open your heart to the words written for they are the words coming from a heart just like you. From our pain and our sacrifices to our joy and happiness, when you read this we will be able to see that we are all the same seeking love and a dream that we can claim. There are times when we may feel lost and there is nothing that we can do. The truth is that there will always be options for us to choose. Only with our ever changing emotions at the time we are blind to see. For every action there is an opposite reaction. There are things that we know that we can do yet we get caught up in the things that we are going through. There are times when we are happy and times when we are sad. It is a delicate balance in the lives that we live. Each of us will need to come to grips with the way that we feel. We are never alone although we think at the time that we are alone. We need to find the courage to reach out and say that we are here. Is there anyone out there that care about the lives that we live? At the end of the day if we listen closely we will be able to hear a voice saying that I am here, you are not alone. Ever changing emotions is what will live in our hearts. We just have to decide the things that we want to do and find the courage to follow them through. The Life that I have had to live has been very difficult but the love in my heart kept me strong even when I sometimes may have felt alone. I have cried my share of tears and I have suffered many years but I kept the love in my heart. We are human and we make mistakes but as long as we live there will always be another road for us to take. I pray that the poems that you are reading help you to understand that we all go through lifes ever changing emotions. We have to live in the moment and if that moment continues to last then we should remember that our lives are made up of our past, present and our future. For as long as we live we can change the way that we feel. Love and forgiveness is what we should always hold most precious in our lives. Love and forgiveness can forever live in our hearts. Poetry is something that we all share, each time that we think a thought.

As a community we need to start focussing on understanding and encouraging communication around feelings from an early age - equipping children with the tools they need to best face the ups and downs (and in-betweens) of life. Parents, caregivers and educators need a variety of ways to encourage these conversations and the safe space of engaged reading together is a proven, effective beginning. Feel A Little creates poetic and imaginative word prompts and a visual language for emotions, providing a starting point for discussions that you can come back to again and again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prozac has side effects, drinking gives you hangovers, therapy's expensive. For quick and effective relief -- or at least some literary comfort -- from everyday and exceptional problems, try a poem. Over the ages, people have turned to poets as ambassadors of the emotions, because they give voice and definition to our troubles, and by so doing, ease them. No matter how bad things get, poets have been there, too, and they can help you get over the rough spots. This is the first poetry anthology designed expressly for the self-help generation. The poems listed include classics by Emily Dickinson, Lord Byron, Ogden Nash, and Lucretius, to name just a few, along with newer works by such current practitioners as Seamus Heaney and Wendy Cope. This book has a cure or consolation for nearly every affliction, ancient or modern. And no side effects-except pleasure.
