Book Synopsis History of Plant Pathology by : S.G. Borkar
Download or read book History of Plant Pathology written by S.G. Borkar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book History of plant pathology depicts the historical events, discoveries and advancement made in the subject of plant pathology from the ancient era to till date and these are arranged into different eras viz. ancient era, medieval era, pre-modern era, modern era and present era which are useful to understand the development made on the subject of plant pathology and further scope of development and advancement in the subject. The major contributions made by pioneer workers in plant pathology around the world during these eras which had led the foundation for different branches of plant pathology are also given in the book. Besides the significant contribution made in each era for the developments of this subject, the book has additional chapters on the historical epidemics of important plant diseases around the world and its impact on human civilisations, and the historical crop yield losses due to plant diseases. The book also includes different Plant pathological societies and their development around the world to further strengthen the subject of plant pathology. Thus the book History of Plant Pathology is made interesting and of in-depth understanding to know the subject of plant pathology and further scope on the subject.

Book Synopsis Fire Blight by : Thomas Jonathan Burrill
Download or read book Fire Blight written by Thomas Jonathan Burrill and published by American Phytopathological Society. This book was released on 2003 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fire Blight: The Foundation of Phytobacteriology tells the story of the exciting first decades of fire blight research. This fascinating collection of papers from the early 19th and 20th centuries highlights work from three notable scientists who pioneered work on the disease ? Thomas Jonathan Burrill, Joseph Charles Arthur, and Merton Benway Waite. These papers establish the fundamental concept that bacteria could cause plant disease and provide the first proof that insects acted as vectors of plant pathogens. The discoveries recorded here belong to the same class of scientific breakthroughs as the work on rust and smut disease in the 1850?s, which revealed the fact of fungal pathogenicity. The importance of the early studies on fire blight also relate to the development of biology and bacteriology because the revelation that bacteria could cause plant disease came at virtually the same time as the similar discovery with human and animal diseases. And the research in the role of insects in the spread of disease appeared contemporaneously with reports of insect vectors in animal disease.Plant pathologists, horticulturists, and historians of science will treasure this collection of papers that expose not only the early details on fire blight but also the identification of the need for research and the authors? experimental techniques. Carefully selected by the editors, the papers clearly reveal the developing nature of plant pathology and lead the reader through the captivating ? and sometimes lesser known ? research of times gone by.
Book Synopsis Introduction To Plants Pathology by : Dr. Ashok Kumar Koshariya
Download or read book Introduction To Plants Pathology written by Dr. Ashok Kumar Koshariya and published by AG PUBLISHING HOUSE (AGPH Books). This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant pathology is study of the living organisms and environmental factors which cause disease in plants, as well as the mechanisms through which these factors cause disease in plants, the interaction between the disease-causing agents and diseased plants, and the methods for preventing disease, reducing damage it causes, or attempting to control disease either before it develops in a plant. The majority of plant diseases are caused by biotic organisms. The majority of plant diseases are triggered by fungus, bacteria, phytoplasmas, viruses, viroids, nematodes, and parasitic higher plants. Non-infectious factors are what produce abiotic disorders. Disorders may have an almost infinite number of causes, although the majority of them are caused by factors. Factors include air pollution, high winds, hail, incorrect cultural practices, and extremes of temperature, humidity, light, nutrients, pesticides, alkalinity/alkalinity. saltiness, soil texture, and pesticide toxicity. The damage resulting from insect assaults and competition from noxious plants (weeds) are additional problems. Plant pathology studies often do not include plant damage from humans, other animals, or insects.

Book Synopsis Biological Control of Plant Diseases by : E.C. Tjamos
Download or read book Biological Control of Plant Diseases written by E.C. Tjamos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers contained in this book were presented at a NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) held at Cape Sounion, Athens, Greece, 19-24 May, 1991. The twenty-eight more comprehensive papers represent the key subjects of the ARW covered by invited speakers. The thirty-four short papers pre sented in a research format are contributions of those invited to participate in the ARW. There was a total of 70 participants from 21 countries. The objectives of the ARW were as follows: to review current knowledge of biological control of plant diseases and plant parasitic nematodes, with emphasis on mechanisms at the molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecosystem level; to examine and expand on current concepts and synthesize new concepts; to identify and prioritize limitations in the use of biological control for plant diseases and nematodes and the scientific research needed to overcome these limitations; and to develop strategies for biological control through management of resident agents or introduction of natural or modified agents.
