Book Synopsis Ocean Space Utilization ’85 by : C.C. Mei
Download or read book Ocean Space Utilization ’85 written by C.C. Mei and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ocean development has conventionally been targeted at the exploitation of natural resources, however this trend is gradually changing: Ocean space has itself come to be regarded as a precious resource. Since problems associated with energy, food supply, and population will become even more crucial over the coming years, ocean space is being reevaluated as a means for providing solutions in many of these areas. The future prosperity of mankind will to a large measure be dependent on the manner in which the resources of the oceans are utilized. To develop ocean space effectively, international cooperation is essential since a global perspective is paramount. It is on this basis of cooperation and communication that the present symposium was organized, bringing together experts from all over the world to report current findings in ocean development and to consider areas of future research. The material covered here deals with all aspects of these areas which are now of such of vital importance.
Book Synopsis Design and Installation of Nearshore Ocean Cable Protection Systems by :
Download or read book Design and Installation of Nearshore Ocean Cable Protection Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook deals with the protection of that portion of an ocean cable system which passes through the nearshore zone. This zone is defined as an indefinite area that extends seaward from the shoreline to well beyond the breaker zone. For the purpose of this work, the outer limit of this zone has been established as the distance from shore at which the water depth is great enough that the hydrodynamic effects of storm waves no longer represent a potential danger to the bottom-resting cable. Although this gives a rationale for establishing the nearshore zone, the extent of this region depends on specific site conditions. It could extend offshore to a water depth of at least 100 feet or as much as 600 feet (Valent and Brackett, 1976). The information presented in this handbook is directed primarily toward future cable installations; however, many of the protection systems and most of the design theory can easily be adapted for use in repair of existing installations.
Book Synopsis Construction of Marine and Offshore Structures by : Cliff Gerwick
Download or read book Construction of Marine and Offshore Structures written by Cliff Gerwick and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The leading authority in the field offers a unique and comprehensive treatment of the construction aspects of offshore structures, rather than the more commonly addressed design considerations. Extensively updated, this second edition provides a new chapter on extending offshore technologies to inland waterways and emphasizes recent advances-including floating structures, deep-water structures, ice-resistant structures, and bridge foundations. Construction of Marine and Offshore Structures details all the particulars of building in a marine environment, including construction equipment, marine operations, installing piles, pipelines, and cables, steel and concrete offshore platforms, and underwater repairs. Construction of Marine and Offshore Structures provides an essential reference to engineers in the oil and service industries and to marine construction planners, designers, and contractors. New in the second edition: How the physical environment and geotechnical conditions affect construction Increased attention to protecting the natural environment and compliance with regulatory provisions Recent developments in positioning, instrumentation, and underwater inspection, plus a new section on concrete and steel floating structures and installing permanent moorings Expanded treatment of deep water bridge piers as well as locks and dams on major rivers.
Book Synopsis Coastal And Ocean Engineering Practice by : Young C Kim
Download or read book Coastal And Ocean Engineering Practice written by Young C Kim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012-06-08 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Successful coastal and ocean engineering projects rely on practical experience with technical tools and knowledge available to the engineer. Often, problems arise from projects that are too complex for theoretical description, which require that engineers exercise sound judgment in addition to reliance on past practical experience. This book focuses on the latest technology applied in design and construction, effective engineering methodology, unique projects and problems, design and construction challenges, and other lessons learned. In addition, unique practices in planning, design, construction, maintenance, and performance of coastal and ocean projects will be explored.

Download or read book Marine Concrete Structures written by Mark Alexander and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine Concrete Structures: Design, Durability and Performance comprehensively examines structures located in, under, or in close proximity to the sea. A major emphasis of the book is on the long-term performance of marine concrete structures that not only represent major infrastructure investment and provision, but are also required to operate with minimal maintenance. Chapters review the design, specification, construction, and operation of marine concrete structures, and examine their performance and durability in the marine environment. A number of case studies of significant marine concrete structures from around the world are included which help to reinforce the principles outlined in earlier chapters and provide useful background to these types of structures. The result is a thorough and up-to-date reference source that engineers, researchers, and postgraduate students in this field will find invaluable. - Covers, in detail, the design, specification, construction, and operation of marine concrete structures - Examines the properties and performance of concrete in the marine environment - Provides case studies on significant marine concrete structures and durability-based design from around the world
