This book was released on 1976 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have found that interdigital surface acoustic wave (SAW) transducers deposited on glass substrates and positioned very close to a piezoelectric crystal delay line surface (spaced transducers) may be used to simulate identical transducers fabricated directly on the surface, for pretesting and prealignment of SAW devices. A novel spaced transducer mounting technique has been developed that utilizes a free floating gimbal, which permits positioning the spaced transducer substrate next to the delicately polished SAW substrate without any mutual wiping. This feature greatly extends the reliability of the spaced transducer and overcomes the problem of damaging the surface polish. The gimbal mechanism is mounted on a mobile support which assures good positioning and orientation accuracy. A number of important uses for the new spaced transducer configuration in connection with surface acoustic wave delay line simulation are described, and a brief treatment of the electrical and coupling properties of spaced transducers is also presented. Book Synopsis Surface-Wave Devices for Signal Processing by : D.P. Morgan
Download or read book Surface-Wave Devices for Signal Processing written by D.P. Morgan and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1985 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen the emergence of a wide variety of electronic devices making use of surface acoustic waves in solids. This book focusses on the devices of greatest current interest and on the principles underlying them. An introductory survey is followed by chapters on acoustic wave fundamentals, electric excitation, transducers, multi-strip couplers and propagation effects. The interdigital transducer is emphasised since it is a key element in most devices. The remaining chapters - about half of the book - describe practical devices including delay lines, bandpass filters, chirp filters for pulse-compression radar (including reflective array compressors), convolvers and oscillators. For the main devices the text includes design principles, second-order effects, practical performance and, where appropriate, the role of the device in system applications. Some of the more mathematical details are relegated to Appendices, which include electrode interactions in transducers, sampling theory, the electrostatic element factor and the required relationships from Fourier analysis. A classified list of over 500 references is provided. The book will be of interest to engineers developing surface-wave devices, and to those using the devices in practical systems. It is also very suited for university courses or research work.
Book Synopsis Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications by : Colin Campbell
Download or read book Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications written by Colin Campbell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications is a textbook that combines experiment and theory in assessing the signal processing applications of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. The operating principles of SAW devices are described from a circuit design viewpoint. This book is comprised of 18 chapters and begins with a historical background on surface acoustic waves and a discussion on the merits of SAW devices as well as their applications. The next chapter introduces the reader to the basics of acoustic waves and piezoelectricity, together with the effect of acoustic bulk waves on the performance of SAW filters. The principles of linear phase SAW filter design and equivalent circuit models for a SAW filter are then described. The remaining chapters focus on trade-offs in linear phase SAW filter design; compensation for second-order effects; harmonic SAW delay lines for gigahertz frequencies; and coding techniques using linear SAW transducers. The final chapter highlights Some other significant alternative design techniques and applications for SAW devices. This monograph will be suitable for engineering or physics students as well as engineers, scientists, and technical staff in industry who seek further information on SAW-based circuits, systems, and applications.

Book Synopsis Acoustic Surface Wave Diffraction and Beam Steering by : Thomas L. Szabo
Download or read book Acoustic Surface Wave Diffraction and Beam Steering written by Thomas L. Szabo and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains a detailed description of diffraction in acoustic surface wave devices. This source of loss is highly important in the design and realization of bandpass filters, long time delay lines and other devices for electronic sensors and communications systems. A complete review of acoustic surface wave diffraction on anisotropic substrates is presented. Full experimental verification of theory is provided. Complete computer program listings and descriptions are provided. The limits of applicability of the parabolic velocity surface theory are quantitatively delineated. Universal diffraction loss design curves are given for all parabolic materials. A limitation in the use of the exact angular spectrum of waves theory occurs for materials having a power flow angle slope approximately - 1 unless the velocity surfaces are very accurately known. Both YZ LiNbO3 and 16-1/2 degree double rotated LiNbO3 fall in this category. Approximate diffraction loss design curves are given for YZ LiNbO3. A complete tabular summary of all important material properties affecting acoustic surface wave device design is included. (Author).
