Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the relationship between pantheism and ecology, particularly considering different cultural approaches and diverse religious, theological, and philosophical traditions. Environmental ethics arises from the dangerousness and harmfulness of human beings with respect to nonhuman species and, more generally, with respect to the environment. A common starting point for environmental ethics standpoints is that human beings are responsible for damaging nature. The famous four laws of ecology drafted by Barry Commoner precisely express this guilt on the part of human beings, who very often voluntarily violate the behavioral indications that emerge from nature itself. These aspects concern environmental ethics outlooks. Eco-theology, then, takes a further step: not only do we damage the ecosystem but also, as many authors suggest, when we humans destroy the natural world, we are wounding God. Such an idea implies a possible coincidence of God with the natural world –or the ecosystem. From this assumption, different questions may emerge: what is the kind of coincidence between God and the natural world? Are God and the ecosystem coextensive? If so, are we re-sacralizing the natural world and grounding intrinsic values in theological postulates and statements? These questions lead us to reconsider the cosmological assumptions that ground our environmental judgements, from theology to different religious traditions and cultures to philosophical worldviews. In particular, we will focus on the cosmological assumptions of pantheism (considering its differences with panentheism), discussing the symmetrical (or asymmetrical) relationships between God and the finite ways in which God manifests Godself. In this regard, the book is divided into three main parts: in the first part, the question of pantheism is approached from different traditions and with a special focus on the main thinkers in the history of thought, from Greek Stoicism to the present day. In the second part, some current ecological concerns are considered in relation to pantheistic cosmology: the authors will deepen issues from the discussion of the different “pan-conceptions” to the problem of evil, to Anthropocene. Finally, in the third part, the different chapters will focus on ethical issues in the field of the current environmental crisis with a huge connection with the pantheistic cosmologies. This book is oriented to a wide public, interested in environmental issues and looking for an approach from different cultures and traditions. Evidently, due to its “academic” nature, this book is also intended to be a great support for researchers interested in eco-theology and, more specifically, in the relationship between pantheism and ecology. It is not, in this sense, a “classic” book on environmental ethics, but a book that delves into the fundamentals of environmental philosophy, privileging the Ibero-American approach.

Book excerpt: Most people at one time or another have probably been curious to know, "What could account for all of those strange objects in the sky that many credible witnesses see?" Or, what about the modern mystery of alien abductions and stories of visitations by beings claiming to be from other planets or star systems? Are aliens really making contact with human beings? Is it important anyway? At last, an easy-to-understand book traces the history of this strange phenomenon utilizing the research of many of the "heavyweights" of UFOlogy -- and it's been making sense to a lot of people. This is a book for everyone. The author's research and conclusions will surprise you and challenge your thinking, not just about UFOs, but about the nature of life itself. This is a landmark volume that brings together the most important evidences, coming to conclusions far more sinister -- yet profound -- than most could imagine. - Publisher.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thus Spoke the Preacher By: Rudolph V. Vanterpool “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” This startling beginning to the Book of Ecclesiastes has troubled and confused scholars for thousands of years. How could the Bible espouse such a nihilistic view of the life God has created for us? Rudolph V. Vanterpool examines this question forcefully and passionately in Thus Spoke the Preacher: Solomon’s Cosmic Gaze from Under the Sun. Written by the wisdom-gifted King Solomon, Ecclesiastes is an important part of the Bible’s Wisdom literature. Solomon begins by probing the conclusions that people come to based upon their personal observations and knowledge. We are all filled with longings for peace and justice that this earthly world with its fleshly comforts cannot satisfy. If mortality is vanity, then how do we find meaning? By remembering that we are mortal beings from the standpoint of our temporal lives, our bodily existence is only a season while our indwelling soul never dies. When we turn our gaze from the world around us to the Heavenly realm, we will find the answer to our needs. Thus Spoke the Preacher is no dry academic tome. Instead, it is a lively, personal, and searching study for God’s presence in our world. We have not been abandoned in a maze of despair. Solomon is not a prophet of doom – he is a prophet of hope, showing us the way out of existential cruelty. Solomon’s own writings on power, wealth, and the nature of death presage Jesus’ own teachings of our rightful place in the world. How to find meaning in a seemingly arbitrary world has plagued humanity for millennia. Vanterpool reminds us if we truly listen and really look, we will find our answer. “Some scholars see philosophy and scripture as rivals, or opposing ways of pursuing truth. Not Rudolph V. Vanterpool. In his new book he combines philosophical insight with biblical exegesis, giving an expansive view of the wisdom articulated in the book of Ecclesiastes. Vanterpool draws on decades of reading the philosophical tradition as well as a range of biblical scholorship, popular Christian spirituality, and even an evident love for comic strips. Thus Spoke the Preacher will be illuminating for those on a philosophical path, those on the path of faith, and those for whom these two callings converge.” - Dr. Brian Gregor, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Code: Horizon of Infinity presents a string of tales that authenticate the concept of the mind’s ability to travel to the edge of the universe. It all began with the breath that blew a domino effect, starting the collapse of a virgin universe like a cancer hollowing out a sinkhole. The residues in this ongoing recycling chemistry build the elements that gather the motor of volition, the soul of the intellect, and the moral code of character, the seed that gives meaning to matter and the nascence of a knowledge bank. Says the author, “I was fascinated by awesome childhood outer body experiences, and like tangible life takes the upper hand, the experiences niggle in mind, as I lived my mind in the vast expanse of space, walking earth on a cushion of air. In adulthood these paranormal experiences multiplied to read meaning in them. Triggered by my baby daughter’s dual nine months apart resuscitation ordeal, and already minutes after birth, her eyes exuded a cognitive universe. Enforced to heal her, before medication brings her brain to the cabbage state, I delved deeper into the mysteries of life, the inherited old motherly spirit given a new body to deal with. I returned to my notes, weighing up these coherent messages of the mind, returning with amazing scientific precision, and supporting evidence from the edge of the virgin universe.”
