Book Synopsis A Century of X-Rays and Radioactivity in Medicine by : R.F Mould
Download or read book A Century of X-Rays and Radioactivity in Medicine written by R.F Mould and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Century of X-Rays and Radioactivity in Medicine: With Emphasis on Photographic Records of the Early Years celebrates three great discoveries-x-rays (1895), radioactivity (1896), and radium (1898)-and recalls the pioneering achievements that founded the new science of radiology and changed the face of medicine forever. Over 700 historical illustrations with full and informative captions are supported by short introductory essays to illuminate the fascinating radiological past in an easy-to-read style. The focus of this book is on the historically more interesting early years of discovery, invention, diagnosis, therapy, dosimetry, risk, and protection. Interspersed with a variety of radiological anecdotes, the photographic record is complemented by archival accounts of the pioneer scientists and physicians and their early patients. In the chapters on diagnostic techniques, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine, the author contrasts old methods with newer technologies. He also includes two fascinating chapters on museum and industrial applications of radiography. The book is comprehensively indexed for easy retrieval of the wide variety of people, techniques, apparatus, and examples featured throughout this radiological journey.

Download or read book Radiation Dosimetry Instrumentation and Methods written by Gad Shani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-28 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation dosimetry has made great progress in the last decade, mainly because radiation therapy is much more widely used. Since the first edition, many new developments have been made in the basic methods for dosimetry, i.e. ionization chambers, TLD, chemical dosimeters, and photographic films. Radiation Dosimetry: Instrumentation and Methods, Second Edition brings to the reader these latest developments. Written at a high level for medical physicists, engineers, and advanced dosimetrists, it concentrates only on evolvement during the last decade, relying on the first edition to provide the basics.
Book Synopsis Photographic Film As a Pocket Radiation Dosimeter by :
Download or read book Photographic Film As a Pocket Radiation Dosimeter written by and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An air ionization chamber is theoretically the ideal type of radiation dosimeter since the roentgen is defined in terms of the ionization in air. When it comes to the continuous monitoring of a large number of people for radiation exposure, however, the practical problems of handling and servicing the meters must be considered in the choice of a method for carrying out such monitoring. Dental films have been used for a long time as a means of obtaining qualitative information regarding individual exposure to x-rays and gamma rays. The blackening of a film, however, varies by such a large factor for radiations of various quantum energies that this method could not be considered satisfactory unless some means of compensation for this energy dependence of response were achieved. A good pocket dosimeter should have the following properties. (1) Response for equal exposures in roentgens should be, as far as possible, independent of the quantum energy of the radiation. (2) The range of the meter preferably should be such that doses from less than 0.1 r to 10 or 20 r should be accurately measurable. (3) The response should not be producible by agents other than the radiations to be measured. (4) It should be small and light and should permit of being handled in large numbers by technicians.
