Book Synopsis Satellite Geology and Photogeomorphology by : Lambert A. Rivard
Download or read book Satellite Geology and Photogeomorphology written by Lambert A. Rivard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-26 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twin sets of figures in the manual are presented as examples that demonstrate how the interfacing of stereo airphotos and satellite images in visual qualitative photogeomorphology studies can yield more geospatial information than can be derived from either source independently. The airphoto coverage in each satellite image is indicated by a frame. The photos and images are ordered into eleven sections according to the author’s taxonomic classification of genetic groups as used in his Atlas and Glossary of Geohazard-associated Geounits. The figure sets of each section are preceded by characterisations of their genetic classification context. Some airphotos are taken from those used in the Atlas, the satellite images have been down loaded from USGS Global Visualitation Viewer.

Book Synopsis Photographs Across Time: Studies in Urban Landscapes by : Mary J. Thornbush and Sylvia E. Thornbush
Download or read book Photographs Across Time: Studies in Urban Landscapes written by Mary J. Thornbush and Sylvia E. Thornbush and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photographs Across Time: Studies in Urban Landscapes presents a record of urban environments in Britain, including Oxford, York, Scarborough, Dunbar, Edinburgh, and Inverness. It is a unique demonstration of how digital photography bridges urban landscape studies with archaeology and heritage studies. The book revisits several landscape and weathering studies in churchyards throughout England and Scotland in the UK. The book explains cross temporal and archival applications of digital photography and explores the archaeological use of photographs. Readers can also learn about issues related to creating and maintaining digital records as well as issues relevant to heritage sustainability. Researchers, landscape experts and professional photographers as well archivists will find Photographs Across Time as a handy reference for quantitative geomorphological studies on English heritage sites and the qualitative realm of historical archaeology.
Book Synopsis Unlocking the Stratigraphical Record by : Peter Doyle
Download or read book Unlocking the Stratigraphical Record written by Peter Doyle and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-03-06 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stratigraphy is the key to understanding the geological evolution of the earth. It provides the framework for our interpretation of the sequences of events which have shaped the earth throughout its 4600 million years of existence. It provides the timescale with which we can determine the relative order of these events, and it provides the means whereby we can calibrate this using absolute ages in years. Stratigraphy is therefore the most fundamental subject in the science of geology, and all geologists are practising stratigraphers. Traditionally, however, stratigraphy has been considered as a Victorian science, a ponderous process of the naming and cataloguing of innumerable geological units most of which are of limited interest outside of a given geographical region. This view has been challenged in recent years through the development of new techniques such as sequence stratigraphy, cyclostratigraphy and chemostratigraphy which have greatly enhanced our capability to interpret earth history. In this book many of the leading practitioners of modern stratigraphy have been gathered together to provide up-to-date and authoritative reviews of most of the important advances in the subject. As such it is the only volume to provide a comprehensive treatment of modern stratigraphy at an advanced undergraduate level.
Download or read book Remote Sensing written by Floyd F. Sabins and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2007-06-11 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for an introductory course in remote sensing, this highly regarded text offers 28 pages with color photos, Sabins trademark clarity, and comprehensive coverage. The first chapter vividly introduces the major remote sensing systems and the interactions between electromagnetic energy and materials that are the basis for remote sensing. Six following chapters describe the major imaging systems. After a digital image-processing chapter, Sabins devotes the rest of the text to descriptions of practical applications of remote sensing to environmental monitoring, oil and mineral exploration, land-use and geographic information systems, and natural hazards.

Book Synopsis Image Interpretation in Geology by : Stephen A. Drury
Download or read book Image Interpretation in Geology written by Stephen A. Drury and published by Nelson Thornes. This book was released on 1993 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The second edition of Image Interpretation in Geology has been fully rewritten to take account of recent advances in geographic information systems (GIS) and digital image processing. The basic physical principles of remote sensing and how they are applied in acquiring image data from aircraft and satellites are described in detail and are then related to the relevant physiology and psychology of human vision. From here, images from different climate zones of minerals, the rocks and soils that they make up, common geological structures and geologically controlled vegetation are analysed using the basic mathematical principles of digital processing and GIS." "In particular, the second edition covers all aspects of remote sensing in geology without requiring sophisticated use of mathematics; includes a new chapter on applications; gives guidelines for the use of remote sensing and GIS; and is illustrated by a comprehensive selection of outstanding half-tones, stereoscopic and colour images." "This comprehensive text will serve the needs of intermediate and advanced geology and environmental science undergraduates on aerial photograph interpretation and remote sensing courses. It is also suitable for postgraduates and professional geologists involved in digital image processing, GIS and geological mapping."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
