Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an unique relationship that exists between the Jewish mystical teachings of Kabbalah and the highest spiritual philosophy of the Hindus, the Vedanta. Outwardly they appear to be vastly different, but study them, analyze them, come to understand what they are really saying, and the similarities become obvious. And such a study is not just an academic exercise, for it will be found that these ancient teachings not only augment each other in providing answers to the questions of life, but they also contain some very practical advice that can bring a greater measure of harmony in the conducting of our daily affairs. Kabbalah and Vedanta can be called "unique" as: The dedicated proponents of each one hold that theirs is the earliest spiritual teaching in the world. Neither teaching owes its origin to any single person. Neither can be called a separate religion in the sense of having its own set of man-made creeds and dogmas. The profundity of their wisdom can be considered as equal. In this book, Two Ways of Light, Dr. Judd devotes the first two chapters in examining the six principles common to all kabbalistic schools of thought, and the three essential points of Vedanta. The third chapter shows the intrinsic harmony that exists between Kabbalah and Vedanta by comparing the six principles with the three points. And the fourth chapter illustrates the practical value of both teachings through commentaries on kabbalistic verses that compare to the individual verses of a Vedantic scripture, the Isha Upanishad. Finally, in the fifth chapter will be found not only the reasons for the basic harmony that exists between these two ancient spiritual philosophies and the major world religions, but also the relevance they have for us tody. This book will be of interest for: 1). Those who wish to have a greater understanding of Kabbalah and/or Vedanta, and 2). Those who are looking for greater spiritual meaning in their lives.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Philosophy, Qabbala and Vedānta: Comparative Metaphysics and Ethics, Retionalism and Mysticism, of the Jews, the Hindus and Most of the Historic Nations, as Links and Developments of One Chain of Universal Philosophy The pioneer philologist and philosopher, Frederick Schlegel, correctly surmised, in his linguistic studies, that human speech, human thought and human motives have really but one root, one sap and one goal, all basing and all culminating in monotheism. In his work on Indian Language, Literature and Philosophy (p. He says: It cannot be denied that the early Indians possessed a knowledge of the true God. All their writings are replete with such sentiments and utterances, noble, clear and austerely grand, as deeply conceived and rev erentially expressed as in any human language. The same writer, again, speaking of Hindu philosophy, says: The divine origin of man is there continually inculcated to stimulate his efforts, to animate him in the struggle to consider a reunion and reincorporation with his divine origin, as the one primary Object Of his exertions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophical issues such as reality and appearance, God and world, self and not-self, rebirth and immortality, free will and determination, mysticism, etc., have been examined by eastern and western philosophers as far back as the sages of Upanishads (700 BCE) in the East, and Plato (400 BCE) in the West. However, there was no significant communication among the philosophers of the East and West perhaps until the eighteenth century. Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) was one of the first among the great western philosophers to recognize the value of Indian philosophies. Despite the lack of communication there are striking similarities of concepts and issues addressed by Indian and western philosophies. Also interesting is how similar are the mystical versions of different religions of the East and West. The author, Dr. Arun Chatterjee, has attempted to bring out the similarities and differences in various chapters of this book dealing with different topics. Among Indian philosophies the focus is on Vedanta philosophy and the views of Sri Aurobindo (1872-1950). The views of Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) also are presented. Other Indian philosophies such as Sankhya and Buddhism are discussed briefly. Among western religions Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are discussed.

Visit us online at www.1stWorldLibrary.ORG - - The visible phenomena of the universe are bound by the universal law of cause and effect. The effect is visible or perceptible, while the cause is invisible or imperceptible. The falling of an apple from a tree is the effect of a certain invisible force called gravitation. Although the force cannot be perceived by the senses, its expression is visible. All perceptible phenomena are but the various expressions of different forces which act as invisible agents upon the subtle and impercep-tible forms of matter. These invisible agents or forces together with the imperceptible particles of matter make up the subtle states of the phenomenal universe. When a subtle force becomes objectified, it appears as a gross object. Therefore, we can say, that every gross form is an expression of some subtle force acting upon the subtle particles of matter. The minute particles of hydrogen and oxygen when combined by chemical force, appear in the gross form of water. Water can never be separated from hydrogen and oxygen, which are its subtle component parts. Its existence depends upon that of its component parts, or in other words, upon its subtle form. If the subtle state changes, the gross manifestation will also change. The peculiarity in the gross form of a plant depends upon the peculiar nature of its subtle form, the seed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the eight of a series of small books under the head "Satchidaananda Vaak-Jyoti' or "The Enlightening Words of Satchidaananda". All these booklets contain a free transliteration of the enlightening and immortal words and teachings of Shri Satchidaanandendra Saraswati Swamiji, of revered memory, found in his numerous Kannada books. Those readers who do not have the facility and advantage of reading and understanding books in the Kannada language will be immensely benefited by these English publications written in simple language and style. This small plan of publishing these 'gems of spiritual literature', unrivalled in their esoteric import and teachings of the highest order and based on the pristine pure original Bhashyas of Adi Shankara, was first mooted by Shri D. B. Gangolli, a devotee and admirer of Swamiji. It is an irony of our times that even that great Acharya's immaculate teachings of Atma Vidya or Self-Knowledge, purely based on the strength of the Upanishadic statements, their veracity based on Intuitive dialectics or ratiocination (called Anubhavaanga Tarka) and finally on the strength of the culmination or consummation of all those teachings in one's own Intuitive. experience here and now, have been distorted beyond recognition and redemption.

Book excerpt: The work of three present-day Sankritist-philosophers, God and the World's Arrangement allows readers to engage directly with writings of the classical Indian philosophers Śaṅkara and Vācaspati, as well as some of their most acute critics, on the question of whether the existence of a creator God can be known by reason alone. Carefully selected and annotated with the needs of students foremost in mind, these new translations will be of interest to anyone wishing to see up close a newly set gem of our philosophical inheritance from global antiquity.
