Download or read book Henry Moore On Sculpture written by Henry Moore and published by Da Capo Press, Incorporated. This book was released on 1992-03-21 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henry Moore's reputation as one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century is unassailable. But his words, both written and spoken, are often as thought-provoking, as moving, and as profound as his works. Few sculptors have spoken as eloquently as Moore has about their art; none with the same modesty, candour, and charm. What Moore has to say about his own sculptures, the work of other artists, his full and active life, and the craft of sculpture in general will prove to be of deep and enduring interest to all sculptors, artists, and those interested in modern art.

Download or read book Sculpture written by Philip Rawson and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philip Rawson, a distinguished academic and author, practiced as a sculptor all of his life. Sculpture, his final book, completes the trilogy begun with his classic works, Drawing and Ceramics. As in those earlier volumes, Rawson provides a clear, factual description of the underlying principles and structural techniques of the art. Although Rawson discusses sculptures from many places and periods—including Africa, Asia, Greece, Medieval and Renaissance Europe, and twentieth-century Europe and America—Sculpture is not a history as such. Rather, it is an original analysis of sculpture as a fundamental and integral form of human "language" capable of conveying a variety of different insights, offering a wealth of cultural and symbolic meaning. In the course of this analysis, Sculpture explores the full range of expressive techniques available to the sculptor today. Rawson's intent is to reveal possible modes of sculptural thought for practitioners and to enable the nonexpert to better understand and appreciate the emotional and intellectual content of any work.

Book Synopsis Designing UNESCO by : ChristopherE.M. Pearson
Download or read book Designing UNESCO written by ChristopherE.M. Pearson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing UNESCO: Art, Architecture and International Politics at Mid-Century represents the first full-length monograph on the genesis, construction and reception of the Paris headquarters of the United Nations' Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The book traces the long and complex birth of UNESCO's permanent seat from its conception in 1950 to its inauguration in 1958, showing how its history constitutes a unique nexus of modernist practices in twentieth-century international politics, art, architecture and criticism. Drawing on a wide range of unpublished archival material and examining critical reception of the building in the local and international press, Christopher Pearson's analysis operates on formal, structural and theoretical levels, revealing many of the largely unspoken assumptions of modern architecture at mid-century and elucidating the conflicted relation between art and science in the post-war period. The volume also throws new light on many of the major architects and artists of the period, among them Breuer, Gropius, Le Corbusier and Eero Saarinen, as well as Picasso, Moore, Mir?rp, Calder and Noguchi. Designing UNESCO is a compelling and original account of one of the most important, yet under-appreciated, buildings of twentieth-century modernism.
