Book excerpt: Have you experienced intense heartbreak, trauma and pain? Does it feel like you just can't make it out of grief? Do you feel that you have been punished except you don't know what you did? Does this life just seem too hard? I too, understand that pain. I too, understand that desperation for some type of hope. I too, felt that not many people understood my pain. My six month old son Peyton died from head injuries he sustained while attending an in- home daycare in January of 2012. After his death I was so angry, bitter, lonely and terribly frustrated that nobody was "paying for" his death. I fought against the 'systems' to try and bring my son justice. I fought against myself to not give up and let the depression completely take over. I fought society by feeling like I had to "get over" his death and just continue on. And then in April of 2015, when I thought it couldn't get any worse my newborn son Tayden died in my arms from complications of Down Syndrome. Now, I was completely broken open. How much more can one person take? I was leveled down to nothing and there was no "fight" in me any longer. And then it happened.... A medium came across my path. She brought me the answers that nobody else could. She was able to explain my own spiritual experiences since my sons' deaths and validate the spiritual messages that my own daughter had delivered. I started to connect with Spirit and find hope that I could get past these tragedies. My perspective was able to change and I was able to look at trauma and heartbreak differently. The new question to be had was, what am I supposed to learn or gain by enduring this? And THAT question alone helped to catapult a life changing spiritual awakening. This is MY story...

Book excerpt: Prior studies of post-war American Gothic literature (and even American horror films) have primarily interpreted Gothic cultural production of the post-war period through a Cold War lens. Despite legitimate reasons for such an approach, this emphasis has limited inquiries into post-war fiction as well as our understanding of the nation’s complicated identity. While the federal government and its investigative agencies may have been preoccupied with the so-called ‘red menace’ that threatened to spread across the planet, each region of the country already possessed major strains of Gothic fiction that focused on regional anxieties – namely of those connected to women and minorities that threatened the region’s constructed identity and balance of power. The Haunted States of America shifts the focus to these Gothic strains by examining how the anxieties, fears and concerns illustrated in the works of several post-World War II writers can be best understood through regional history and identity.

Book excerpt: It’s impossible to overstate Peyton Manning’s football legacy. He holds every major record for an NFL quarterback, including most career touchdown passes, most touchdown passes in a single season, most passing yards in a single season, and most games with a perfect passer rating. On February 7, 2016, he capped his already incredible list of accomplishments by becoming the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl at the age of thirty-nine. Through words and images, this book commemorates the career of one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play professional football. Jim Saccomano and Craig Kelley trace Peyton Manning’s legendary career from his early years as a high school star in New Orleans to his standout seasons at the University of Tennessee. The authors chronicle Manning’s selection as the number one pick in the 1998 draft by the Indianapolis Colts, his stellar seasons with the blue and white, his MVP performance in the Colts’ Super Bowl XLI victory, and his record-setting years with the Denver Broncos, which culminated in his second championship in Super Bowl 50. The authors celebrate Manning’s career in a fully illustrated scrapbook-style album with passionate and vivid prose, supreme photographic images and memorabilia, call-out quotes, and dozens of personal anecdotes and recollections about Manning from prominent members of the NFL community. This unique collection captures the magic of Manning’s career, making it an essential addition to every football fan’s library and a fitting tribute to one of the game’s greatest players. This book is a trip through the years of Manning’s career as a quarterback who defined the game and his era.

Book excerpt: Peyton 313 is the first book in a futuristic Science Fiction and Fantasy series from USA Today Bestselling Author Donna McDonald. The war was over long ago, but the fight for their humanity is just beginning. Dr. Kyra Winters certainly never meant for her work to be used for anything evil even though that’s exactly what happened. Her studies in cyber conversions and genetic engineering were supposed to make the world a better place. The best soldiers got converted into Cyborgs to fight a World War no one wanted to be reminded of ever happening. Enslaved by their programming ten years ago, the Cyborgs have no idea that the war they signed up to fight is over. Or that a fight for their humanity is just beginning. If the current world powers had any proof of her reversal experiments, Kyra would be killed for even trying to free them. She’s already lost two Cyborgs due to her failures. Are Peyton 313’s chances any better? Failure is not an option Kyra can even consider since she’s out of both money and time. The fate of all cybernetic humans rests on her successfully restoring the cyborg who was once Marine Captain Peyton Elliott. Worst epic fail of her scientific career? Caring too much for a cyborg she helped create. ABOUT THIS SERIES - Set in the future, this science fiction action and adventure story explores military boundaries in a tale of created cyborgs and genetic engineering. It contains strong elements of romance for both paranormal romance and science fiction romance fans. It’s set in a futuristic urban environment. "Awesome story. I so liked this. Good plot. I am looking forward to more by Ms. McDonald." - NetGalley Reviewer
