Book Synopsis Performance Analysis of Closed Queueing Networks by : Svenja Lagershausen
Download or read book Performance Analysis of Closed Queueing Networks written by Svenja Lagershausen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the performance analysis of closed queueing networks with general processing times and finite buffer spaces. It offers a detailed introduction to the problem and a comprehensive literature review. Two approaches to the performance of closed queueing networks are presented. One is an approximate decomposition approach, while the second is the first exact approach for finite-capacity networks with general processing times. In this Markov chain approach, queueing networks are analyzed by modeling the entire system as one Markov chain. As this approach is exact, it is well-suited both as a reference quantity for approximate procedures and as extension to other queueing networks. Moreover, for the first time, the exact distribution of the time between processing starts is provided.

Book Synopsis Model-Driven Dependability Assessment of Software Systems by : Simona Bernardi
Download or read book Model-Driven Dependability Assessment of Software Systems written by Simona Bernardi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last two decades, a major challenge for researchers working on modeling and evaluation of computer-based systems has been the assessment of system Non Functional Properties (NFP) such as performance, scalability, dependability and security. In this book, the authors present cutting-edge model-driven techniques for modeling and analysis of software dependability. Most of them are based on the use of UML as software specification language. From the software system specification point of view, such techniques exploit the standard extension mechanisms of UML (i.e., UML profiling). UML profiles enable software engineers to add non-functional properties to the software model, in addition to the functional ones. The authors detail the state of the art on UML profile proposals for dependability specification and rigorously describe the trade-off they accomplish. The focus is mainly on RAMS (reliability, availability, maintainability and safety) properties. Among the existing profiles, they emphasize the DAM (Dependability Analysis and Modeling) profile, which attempts to unify, under a common umbrella, the previous UML profiles from literature, providing capabilities for dependability specification and analysis. In addition, they describe two prominent model-to-model transformation techniques, which support the generation of the analysis model and allow for further assessment of different RAMS properties. Case studies from different domains are also presented, in order to provide practitioners with examples of how to apply the aforementioned techniques. Researchers and students will learn basic dependability concepts and how to model them using UML and its extensions. They will also gain insights into dependability analysis techniques through the use of appropriate modeling formalisms as well as of model-to-model transformation techniques for deriving dependability analysis models from UML specifications. Moreover, software practitioners will find a unified framework for the specification of dependability requirements and properties of UML, and will benefit from the detailed case studies.

Book Synopsis Component-Based Software Development for Embedded Systems by : Colin Atkinson
Download or read book Component-Based Software Development for Embedded Systems written by Colin Atkinson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-11-19 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embedded systems are ubiquitous. They appear in cell phones, microwave ovens, refrigerators, consumer electronics, cars, and jets. Some of these embedded s- tems are safety- or security-critical such as in medical equipment, nuclear plants, and X-by-wire control systems in naval, ground and aerospace transportation - hicles. With the continuing shift from hardware to software, embedded systems are increasingly dominated by embedded software. Embedded software is complex. Its engineering inherently involves a mul- disciplinary interplay with the physics of the embedding system or environment. Embedded software also comes in ever larger quantity and diversity. The next generation of premium automobiles will carry around one gigabyte of binary code. The proposed US DDX submarine is e?ectively a ?oating embedded so- ware system, comprising 30 billion lines of code written in over 100 programming languages. Embedded software is expensive. Cost estimates are quoted at around US$15– 30 per line (from commencement to shipping). In the defense realm, costs can range up to $100, while for highly critical applications, such as the Space Shuttle, the cost per line approximates $1,000. In view of the exponential increase in complexity, the projected costs of future embedded software are staggering.
Book Synopsis Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics by : Roman Wyrzykowski
Download or read book Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics written by Roman Wyrzykowski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-04-14 with total page 1193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is our pleasure to provide you with the volume containing the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Parallel Processing and Applied Mathe- tics, which was held in Cz ̧ estochowa, a Polish city famous for its Jasna Gora Monastery, on September 7–10, 2003. The ?rst PPAM conference was held in 1994 and was organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Cz ̧ estochowa University of Technology in its hometown. The main idea behind the event was to provide a forum for researchers involved in applied and computational mathematics and parallel computing to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. Conference organizers hoped that this arrangement would result in cross-pollination and lead to successful research collaborations. In - dition, they hoped that the initially mostly Polish conference would grow into an international event. The fact that these assumptions were correct was proven by the growth of the event. While the ?rst conference consisted of 41 presen- tions, the conference reached 150 participants in Na l ̧ ecz ́ ow in 2001. In this way the PPAM conference has become one of the premiere Polish conferences, and de?nitely the most important one in the area of parallel/distributed computing andappliedmathematics. This year’s meeting gathered almost 200 participants from 32 countries. A strict refereeing process resulted in the acceptance of approximately 150 cont- buted presentations, while the rejection rate was approximately 33%.
