Book Synopsis Handbook of Irrigation Hydrology and Management by : Saeid Eslamian
Download or read book Handbook of Irrigation Hydrology and Management written by Saeid Eslamian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever-increasing population growth has caused a proportional increased demand for water, and existing water sources are depleting day by day. Moreover, with the impact of climate change, the rates of rainfall in many regions have experienced a higher degree of variability. In many cities, government utilities have been struggling to maintain sufficient water for the residents and other users. The Handbook of Irrigation Hydrology and Management: Irrigation Methods examines and analyzes irrigated ecosystems in which water storage, applications, or drainage volumes are artificially controlled in the landscape and the spatial domain of processes varies from micrometers to tens of kilometers, while the temporal domain spans from seconds to centuries. The continuum science of irrigation hydrology includes the surface, subsurface (unsaturated and groundwater systems), atmospheric, and plant subsystems. Further, the book addresses the best practices for various types of irrigation methods including pressure, smart, surface, and subsurface, and presents solutions for water scarcity and soil salinity in irrigation. Features: Offers water-saving strategies to increase the judicious use of scarce water resources Presents strategies to maximize agricultural yield per unit of water used for different regions Compares irrigation methods to offset changing weather patterns and impacts of climate change

Book Synopsis Advances in Irrigation by : Daniel Hillel
Download or read book Advances in Irrigation written by Daniel Hillel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Irrigation, Volume 4 covers articles on the development and management of irrigation. The book presents articles on the improved method for distributing water in furrows, termed cablegation; the analysis of drip irrigation design based on the criterion of statistical uniformity; and the spatial distribution of water in sprinkling-irrigation systems. The text also includes articles on the critical evaluation of crop yields as influenced by irrigation uniformity; the concept of evapotranspiration from the scale of a field to the scale of an entire region; as well as the drainage of irrigated lands under sequential water application. Articles on the comparison of several models for the purpose of appraising the effect of irrigation on wheat and barley yields and on the economics of kiwifruit production under irrigation in New Zealand are also encompassed. The book concludes with an article about the modification and testing of a model simulating root and shoot growth as related to soil water dynamics. Agriculturists, agricultural engineers, and hydrologists will find the book invaluable.

Book Synopsis Center-pivot Sprinkler System Design Based on Soil Intake Characteristics by : Robert C. Dillon
Download or read book Center-pivot Sprinkler System Design Based on Soil Intake Characteristics written by Robert C. Dillon and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The center-pivot sprinkler irrigation system is a specially designed mobile sprinkler lateral attached to a center pivot at one end which distributes water as it rotates around that point. The main advantage of this type of system is its low labor requirement. This factor along with several others has led to the increased acceptance and popularity of the system. In the High Plains of Texas many farmers have become interested in the center-pivot irrigation system. Some have consulted the Soil Conservation Service for advise on the design of such a system. However, presently the Soil Conservation Service does not have a optimum procedure which can be used to design these systems. All sprinkler irrigation systems have been designed in the past so that the average application rate does not exceed a constant final intake rate of a soil. Toward the end of some center-pivot systems, the average application rate is above the highest design intake rate of any soil. However, these systems are being used on these soils without excessive runoff by operating them at high speeds and by applying small amounts of water per irrigation. By increasing the speed, the lateral is passed over a point before the intake rate of the soil decreases below the application rate of the system. The purpose of this study is to develop a design procedure which will enable the engineer to match the center-pivot sprinkler system to the soil and crop without runoff occurring.
