Book Synopsis Test Evaluation of Stationary and Rotating Diffusers for a High Pressure Ratio Radial Compressor by : Colin Rodgers
Download or read book Test Evaluation of Stationary and Rotating Diffusers for a High Pressure Ratio Radial Compressor written by Colin Rodgers and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of a free rotating vaneless/vaned diffuser (F.R.D.) for a nominal 1.9 pps, high pressure ratio, single stage radial compressor was completed, together with a comparative conventional stationary vaneless/vaned optimum channel diffuser. Both types of diffuser were subsequently fabricated and individually installed in an existing turbodrive compressor rig for comparative performance evaluation. At 100% corrected design impeller speed, equal to 62,000 rpm, the peak pressure ratio and adiabatic efficiency for the stationary and F.R.D. systems were 7.91 and 72.6% compared to 7.43 and 70%, respectively. Impeller efficiency was not repeatable and reduced 3.8% at design speed with the F.R.D. installed, probably as a result of different radial clearance settings. Overall peak vaneless/vaned diffuser static pressure recovery was essentially the same (0.61) at design speed with either the stationary or F.R.D. systems. (Author).

Book Synopsis One-dimensional Compressible Flow in Vaneless Diffusers of Radial-, and Mixed-flow Centrifugal Compressors, Including Effects of Friction, Heat Transfer and Area Change by : John D. Stanitz
Download or read book One-dimensional Compressible Flow in Vaneless Diffusers of Radial-, and Mixed-flow Centrifugal Compressors, Including Effects of Friction, Heat Transfer and Area Change written by John D. Stanitz and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis method and a design method are developed for one-dimensional, compressible flow with friction, heat transfer, and area change in vaneless diffusers with arbitrary profiles in the axial-radial plane. In the analyis method the varations in fluid properties are determined as a function of radius for a prescribed variation in diffuser wall spacing with radius. In the design method the variation in effective diffuser wall spacing is determined as a function of radius for an arbitrary prescribed variation in one fluid property. As a result of numerical examples it is concluded that: (1) The friction losses in most vaneless diffuser designs are considerable and these losses result from the usually large ratios of wetted surface to flow area in vaneless diffusers. (2) Vaneless diffuser efficiencies can be improved by increased compressor flow rates for a given impeller tip radius.

Book excerpt: A comprehensive overview of fluid dynamic models and experimental results that can help solve problems in centrifugal compressors and modern techniques for a more efficient aerodynamic design. Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors isacomprehensive overview of the theoretical fluid dynamic models describing the flow in centrifugal compressors and the modern techniques for the design of more efficient centrifugal compressors. The author — a noted expert in the field, with over 40 years of experience — evaluates relevant numerical and analytical prediction models for centrifugal compressors with special attention to their accuracy and limitations. Relevant knowledge from the last century is linked with new insights obtained from modern CFD. Emphasis is to link the flow structure, performance and stability to the geometry of the different compressor components. Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors is an accessible resource that combines theory with experimental data and previous research with recent developments in computational design and optimization. This book was released on 1949 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the most accurate determination of compressor performance from measured static pressures, a wall-surface friction correction is required. At diffuser diameters of about 1 1/2 impeller diameters or greater, the compressor efficiencies determined from measured static pressures showed good agreement with those based on measured total pressures.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The operation of centrifugal compressor systems is limited at low-mass flow rates by fluid flow instabilities leading to rotating stall or surge. These instabilities limit the flow range in which the compressor can operate. They also decrease the performance and efficiency of the compressor. Experiments were conducted to investigate a model of radial vaneless diffuser at stall as well as stall-free operating conditions."--Abstract, p. iii.
