Book Synopsis Divine Musings by : George Thomas Yapuncich
Download or read book Divine Musings written by George Thomas Yapuncich and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16, ESV) Amen does not mean “the end,” rather “I agree” or “I confirm.” The sin of adultery is not only physical but spiritual as well. We are justified (forgiven of sin) at the point of conversion, but sanctification (being made holy) is a lifelong process. The curtain torn at Jesus’s crucifixion was over six inches thick and sixty feet tall. The Tree of Life is the real reason Adam and Eve were banished from the garden. Satan, once the morning star of heaven, the model of perfection, did not fall from heaven, he was shoved out by God for his arrogance and pride. George T. Yapuncich, a pastor, mentor, husband, father, farmer and retired international businessman, reflects on these and hundreds of other terms, doctrines and biblical thoughts in this anthology prepared for contemplation and growth in biblical understanding. Its purpose is to open God’s Word to comprehend His glory and majesty more fully. Each term is exhibited in a Bible verse, demonstrating its importance and usage. Through direct application the reader can more fully grasp the true connotation of these terms thus invoking thoughts and feelings over and above their primary or literal meanings. This is not a book of definitions, but a book of images. Its purpose is to encourage the inquisitive mind in not only mining God’s Word, but to more fully live out His Word in thought and deed.

Book Synopsis Divine Holiness and Divine Action by : Mark C. Murphy
Download or read book Divine Holiness and Divine Action written by Mark C. Murphy and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holiness is the attribute most emphatically ascribed to God in Scripture, but there has been little attention devoted to characterizing and considering the entailments of divine holiness. In Divine Holiness and Divine Action, Mark C. Murphy defends an account of holiness indebted to Rudolf Otto's description of the experience of the holy as that of a mysterium tremendum et fascinans. God's being holy consists in God's being someone with whom intimate union is both extremely desirable for us and yet something for which we—and indeed any limited beings—are unfit. This notion of divine holiness is useful for addressing disputed theological questions regarding divine action. In contrast to standard accounts of divine action that begin with assumptions regarding God's moral perfection or God's maximal love, the appeal to divine holiness supports a rival framework for explaining and predicting divine action—the holiness framework—according to which God is motivated to act in ways that are a response to God's own value by keeping distance from that which is deficient, defective, or in any way limited in goodness. This study exhibits the fruitfulness of a reorientation from the morality and love frameworks to the holiness framework by showing how such a reorientation suggests distinct approaches to perennial problems of divine action regarding creation, incarnation, atonement, and salvation. From the treatment of these perennial problems, a general theme regarding divine action emerges: that God's interaction with the world exhibits a radical sort of humility.

Book Synopsis From the Divine to the Human by : Muhammad U. Faruque
Download or read book From the Divine to the Human written by Muhammad U. Faruque and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-28 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring the work of leading contemporary Muslim philosophers and theologians, this book grapples with various forms of evil and suffering in the world today, from COVID-19 and issues in climate change to problems in palliative care and human vulnerability. Rather than walking down well-trodden paths in philosophy of religion which often address questions of evil and suffering by focusing on divine attributes and the God-world relationship, this volume offers another path of inquiry by focusing on human vulnerability, potential, and resilience. Addressing both the theoretical and practical dimensions of the question of evil, topics range from the transformative power of love, virtue ethics in Sufism and the necessity of suffering, to the spiritual significance of the body and Islamic perspectives on embodiment. In doing so, the contributors propose new perspectives based on various pre-modern and contemporary materials that can enrich the emerging field of the global philosophy of religion, thereby radically transforming contemporary debates on the nature of evil and suffering. The book will appeal to researchers in a variety of disciplines, including Islamic philosophy, religious studies, Sufism, and theology.

This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers an array of newly commissioned essays, addressing the topic of love in the Christian tradition. Drawn from a range of expert theologians and philosophers in contemporary analytic and non-analytic theology, these essays join current debates within the theology of love, and aim to propose new avenues for future research. Including the last essay written by Marilyn McCord Adams, Love, Divine and Human deals with a rich variety of issues related to divine and human love. The broad scope of the book includes divine transcendence and its methodological bearing on the doctrine of divine love, the nature and scope of divine love, the interrelation between God's love and wrath, the plausibility of an impassable God of love, and the application of various conceptions of divine love to the problem of divine hiddenness, human ethics, and human free will, among other topics. This unified collection of cutting-edge papers will advance discussion for all those focused on the theology of love.
Book Synopsis The Divine Attributes by : T. J. Mawson
Download or read book The Divine Attributes written by T. J. Mawson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Divine Attributes explores the traditional theistic concept of God as the most perfect being possible, discussing the main divine attributes which flow from this understanding - personhood, transcendence, immanence, omnipresence, omniscience, omnipotence, perfect goodness, unity, simplicity and necessity. It argues that the atemporalist's conception of God is to be preferred over the temporalist's on the grounds of perfect being theology, but that, if it were to be the case that the temporal God existed, rather than the atemporal God, He'd still be 'perfect enough' to count as the God of Theism.

Book Synopsis The Church and the Problem of Divine Hiddenness by : Derek S. King
Download or read book The Church and the Problem of Divine Hiddenness written by Derek S. King and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-30 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a theological, and more specifically ecclesiological, response to the philosophical problem of divine hiddenness. It engages with philosopher J.L. Schellenberg’s argument on hiddenness and sets out a theologically rich and fresh response, drawing on the ecclesiological thought of Gregory of Nyssa. With careful attention to Gregory’s work, the book shows how certain ecclesiological problems and themes are critical to the hiddenness argument. It looks to the gathered church (the church as the body of Christ) and the scattered church (the church as the image of God) for relevance to the hiddenness problem. The volume will be of interest to scholars of theology and philosophy, particularly analytic theologians and philosophers of religion.
