In this book, you’ll find the stories of dozens of people who are enjoying the blessings of following a Word of Wisdom diet, and you’ll get concrete advice on how to get started! You will discover: What we should and should not eat to enjoy maximum physical health. How food is intimately connected to our spiritual well being. Why Latter-day Saints are succumbing to the same chronic diseases as the rest of the population, despite not smoking, drinking, or doing drugs. How the Word of Wisdom was designed specifically for our day. How you can receive the “hidden treasures” and other blessings promised in the Word of Wisdom. Why eating the foods God has ordained for our use is better not just for our bodies, but for the animals and for the earth. Book excerpt: Through information, her own experience, and client stories, Geneva Montano presents birthing people with the opportunity to create a pregnancy and birth where their babies are heard and trusted, where they are invited to tap into the innate knowing within their wombs and the opportunity to exit the popular birth narrative that is mired in fear, blame, and doubt. Her compassionately connected approach offers comfort in the midst of the challenges that new parents face. It anchors them in the ancient wisdom of spirit and body to address common fears and choices that arise for many birthing families. Wisdom from the Womb delivers empowerment through the art of storytelling and humor, the evidence of science and anecdote, the practices of peaceful stillness and aligned movement, and the ability we all have to listen to and trust ourselves and our babies. Proceeds from this book will be donated to Colorado Community Birth, a non-profit organization that offers volunteer birth services to people who would not otherwise be able to access them and mentorship to people who want to guide birthing people through the process as midwives and doulas. "Geneva's compelling stories will take you on a journey of understanding the importance of MotherBaby love and connection that begins in the womb and that will guide you to claim your power in birth and parenthood. This is a midwife's tale of transformation that will support you in connecting to your baby and your body and will open you to the miracles of birth in new ways. Birth is a day that impacts and sets the foundation for your baby and your relationships. There is no greater investment than in preparing for birth with love and connection. Book excerpt: This 10-week study of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon mines the Wisdom Literature not only for wise principles for living, but also for the wise person these books point to through their drama, poetry, proverb, and song. In her accessible and authentic style, Nancy Guthrie focuses on seeing Jesus in the Old Testament instead of emphasizing works-based moralism. She presents clear commentary and contemporary application of gospel truths, speaking directly to issues such as repentance, submission, happiness, and sexuality. Each weekly lesson includes questions for personal study, a contemporary teaching chapter that emphasizes how the passage fits into the bigger story of redemptive history, a brief section on how the passage uniquely points to what is yet to come at the consummation of Christ's kingdom, and a leader's guide for group discussion.

This books is a translation of an indispensable exposition of the three sets of vows that are central to Tibetan Buddhist codes of discipline--the pratimoksa vows of individual liberation; the vows of the bodhisattva, who selflessly strives for the liberation of all beings; the vows of the esoteric path of tantra. Here, the late Dudjom Rinpoche provides his authoritative commentary on the role of ethics and morality in Buddhist practice, outlining in detail the meaning and scope of the vows, and giving practical advice on maintaining the vows as supportive tools in the journey toward enlightenment.

Book excerpt: China’s Cultural Revolution brought a halt to the everyday life of ordinary citizens, and the monotonous routine of daily life was disturbed by political accusations made by ‘Red Guards’. The writer gives vivid descriptions of incidents: the burning of antiques, destroying artists’ work, desecrating religious places of worship and attacking the religious beliefs of the people. Forty seven years have now elapsed, and the present generation of Chinese may be able to understand some of the political developments that opened up the country, liberalising the economy, and the beginning of some form of individual freedom. Although living in the diplomatic enclave, the writer seized the opportunity to gather information from a cross section of Chinese, and from translations of the local newspaper Shinhwa. She is sympathetic to Chairman Mao’s idealism but with the advent of indisciplined and immature groups of Red Guards negating the democratic communist dream, the heroine in the novel naively believes different things could be achieved. The story is fact and fiction, as firsthand incidents that took place bring out the authenticity of this historical period in China. The characters are fictitious and if there is any resemblance to actual people it is entirely coincidental. This is the work of an author moving in an environment of diplomats and politicians during a very volatile period.

Book excerpt: Indie Book Awards Winner A deeply affirming exploration of the unknown—with meditations and exercises for transforming the fear and uncertainty of ‘not knowing’ into a sense of openness, curiosity, and bravery For most of us, the unknown is both friend and foe. At times, it can be a source of paralyzing fear and uncertainty. At other times, it can be a starting point for transformation, creativity, and growth. The unknown is a deep current that runs throughout all religions and mystical traditions, plays an important role in contemporary psychotheraputic thought and practice, and is essential to personal growth and healing. In The Wisdom of Not Knowing, psychotherapist Estelle Frankel shows us that our psychological, emotional, and spiritual health is radically influenced by how comfortable we are with navigating the unknown and uncertain dimensions of our lives. Drawing on insights from Kabbalah, depth psychology, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, and ancient myth, Frankel explores how we can grow our souls by tapping into the wisdom of not knowing. She also includes case studies of individuals who have grappled with fears of the unknown and, as a result, come out wiser, stronger, and more resilient. Each chapter includes experiential exercises and meditations for befriending the unknown, conveying how embracing a state of "not knowing" is the key to gaining new knowledge, learning to bear uncertainty, and enjoying a healthy sense of adventure and curiosity.

Narayana The author being a Western Yogi sets out to gain the merit and the blessing of the Buddha by demonstrating and illuminating the Sutra tooters to his best capacity and in accordance with his particular experience in Samadhi. The author is a European eclectic who is familiar with most of the esoteric classics of Chinese, Tibetan, Indian, Persian, Arabic, Greek and Egyptian Antiquity. He is in no capacity a Buddhist scholar, a Linguist, or and Orientalist. Far from being a theologian, Narayana is a practicing Samadhi to the reader in both, Eastern and Western terminology. He sets out to strip the sacred text to its utmost nakedness and truth. This is by eradicating addenda. Irrelevant dogma, and outright inventions. He stripe the Sutra of mythological phantasms, dogmatic and scholastic speculations, and outright fantasies by theocracy. He attempts to eliminate from the Sutra anything that in his view the Buddha

Book excerpt: Folded Wisdom is an inspirational testament to the depth of a father’s love for his children, and an intimate look into beautiful, raw, human communication. Within the pages of this book, Joanna Guest shares the insightful notes her father drew for her and her brother Theo every day for nearly 15 years. For her entire childhood, Joanna’s father, Bob, had a ritual: wake up at dawn, walk the dog, and sit down at the kitchen table with a blank pad of paper and plenty of colored markers to craft notes for his two children. Over the years, word games and puzzles for five-year-olds morphed into thoughtful guidance and reflections for his teenagers approaching adulthood. Now, with more than 3,500 of her father’s colorful notes in hand, Joanna has decided that the lessons tucked inside are worth sharing. Folded Wisdom highlights the collection of Bob’s notes, telling a story filled with universal values that encourages meaningful self-reflection – about how we all face successes and failures; express happiness and sadness; and communicate frustration, praise, and love to one another. Heartfelt and full of possibility for the future, a father’s folded notes and drawings are timeless reminders of love.

Book excerpt: The cutting edge of neurolinguistics meets the spiritual wisdom of the ages in a handbook of key words that literally rewire our brains. New discoveries in biology and the neurosciences are revealing how the structure of language-the words we think and speak-can actually change the way the neurons in our brains and hearts connect. But our ancestors understood this connection intuitively, thousands of years ago. They created specific word-patterns to provide comfort, healing, strength, and inner power in difficult times, and they encoded these powerful words in prayers, chants, mantras, hymns, and sacred writings to preserve them for future generations. Now beloved teacher and thought leader Gregg Braden cracks the code and puts these powerful words in your hands. Perfect as a pocket guide, a reference for spiritual study, or a gift to someone you love, this elegant, compact book contains Wisdom Codes that cut to the core of life's greatest tests, most challenging demands, and hardest lessons. You'll find chapters devoted to healing from loss and grief, facing your unspoken fears, finding certainty in the face of uncertain choices, and finding forgiveness, as well as ancient parables that offer a "fast track" to unraveling life's deepest mysteries. Each Wisdom Code-distilled from a quote, a scripture passage, or a parable-is accompanied by a brief discussion of what the code means, why it's important, and how to apply it in your life.

Book excerpt: "At the heart of Buddhism lies the doctrine of the perfection of wisdom. The foremost principles of this teaching are the bodhisattva ideal of the religious life and the essential emptiness of all existence. The sutras known as The Perfection of Wisdom in 8,000 Lines are the oldest version of this important Buddhist text, dating some two thousand years, and are the basis for the present translation." "The message of The Perfection of Wisdom is as applicable to the modern reader as it was to the monks who first studied the text two millennia ago: through an understanding of the perfection of wisdom, it is possible for all of us to detach from the suffering that binds us to the material world, and so move toward enlightenment. This important text is illustrated with extraordinary images taken from the earliest surviving Indian and Nepalese illustrated manuscripts of The Perfection of Wisdom - most of which have never been reproduced before."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book excerpt: With a unique combination of ancient and contemporary wisdom from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, The Diamond Cutter presents readers with empowering strategies for success in their work and personal lives. Geshe Michael Roach, one of the great teachers today of Tibetan Buddhism, has richly woven The Diamond Cutter in three layers. The first is a translation of selections from the Diamond Sutra itself, an ancient text comprised of conversations between the Buddha and his close disciple Subhuti. Considered a central work by Buddhists throughout the world, the Diamond Sutra has been the focus of much interpretation over the centuries. In the second layer, Geshe Michael quotes from some of the best commentaries of the Tibetan tradition. In the main text, the third layer, he uses both sutra and commentary as a jumping-off point for presenting his own teaching. Geshe Michael gives fresh insight into ancient wisdom by using examples from his own experience as one of the founders of the Andin International Diamond Corporation, which was started with capital of fifty thousand dollars and which today has annual sales in excess of one hundred million dollars. Much of the success of Andin has come from applying the business strategies presented in The Diamond Cutter. Geshe Michael's easy style and spiritual understanding make this work of timeless wisdom an invaluable source for those already familiar with, and those unfamiliar with, Tibetan Buddhism.

Book excerpt: The aim of ""The Revelation of the Tree of Life: The Theology of Divine Perfection"" is to show Christians and non-Christians a brief presentation of the fuller sense ""sensus plenior"" of God's revelation that began with the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden and ended in the Triumph of the Cross. The procedure of comparing parallel subjects, the principle of the repetition method, the study of God's perfection, and God's sworn testimonies to man were the methods employed in the composition of this exposition. The Revelation of the Tree of Life takes in the whole work of God's Divine revelation (the Old and New Testaments) and interprets them in context and according to Apostolic tradition. The mystery of the Tree of Life once thought impenetrable to human knowledge will be unveiled. The unveiling of the Tree of Life will reveal God's deeper salvific plan for mankind, which is directly connected with the Institution of the Holy Eucharist. For the Tree of the Cross is the Tree of Life.
