Book Synopsis Optical Study of the Flow in a Mach 6 Nozzle by : Lynwood H. Luebke
Download or read book Optical Study of the Flow in a Mach 6 Nozzle written by Lynwood H. Luebke and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A qualitative experimental study was performed to visualize the flow in a Pratt and Whitney contoured minimum length gas dynamic laser nozzle. The study was done on a blowdown wind tunnel and the test section was designed to model a single channel of flow in the gas dynamic laser. The nozzle has an area ratio of 66 and accelerates the flow to a Mach number of 6 allowing for boundary layer effects. Dry air or nitrogen at 80F total temperature was used as the flowing media. Total pressure was varied from 90 to 180 psig. The flow was visualized using schlieren optical techniques. Neither separation nor disturbances caused by wakes or shock waves was observed in the divergent section of the nozzle. It was determined that the nozzle performed as designed. Using schlieren photographs, it was determined that the nozzle accelerated the flow to Mach 6. The nozzle did follow ideal gas flow characteristics even though it had a throat height of 0.0058 in. Nozzle throat shocks observed in previous studies and thought to be induced by a non-uniform boundary layer growth in the throat region were not observed in this study.

Book Synopsis Performance Analysis of Compressed Truncated Perfect Nozzles by : J. D. Hoffman
Download or read book Performance Analysis of Compressed Truncated Perfect Nozzles written by J. D. Hoffman and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis is presented for predicting the performance of compressed truncated perfect nozzles. The flowfield within the nozzle is calculated by the method of characteristics. The oblique shock wave formed by the coalescence of right-running Mach lines from the compressed contour is fitted discretely and tracked through the flowfield. The nozzle thrust is determined by integrating the momentum flux and pressure forces across the nozzle throat and integrating the wall pressure forces. A computer program implementing the analysis is discussed. Three sample cases are presented to illustrate the use of the computer program. Additional keywords: models; algorithms; parametric analysis; mathematical prediction. (Author).

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The planning for the IUTAM Symposium on Adiabatic Waves in Liquid-Vapor Systems began in May of 1986 in G5ttingen. The Symposium was held in August of 1989 in the Max-Planck-Institut fUr Str5mungsforschung. The invitations to participants suggested that the written papers concern Fast Adiabatic Phase Changes in Fluids and Related Phenomena. Particular topics suggested were: Liquefaction shockwaves and Shock splitting; Evaporation waves; Condensation in Laval nozzles and turbines; Stability in multiphase shocks; Non-equilibrium and near-critical phenomena; Nucleation in dynamic systems; Structure of transition layers; Acoustic phenomena in two phase systems and Cavitation waves. All of these topics should have been treated with emphasis on physical results, new phenomena and theoretical models. Participants from fourteen nations took part in the Symposium and presented papers which were within the range of suggested topics. The organization and execution of the Symposium was performed by the Max-Planck-Institut fUr Str5mungsforschung in G5ttingen. In particular, the meeting has been promoted under the leadership of Professor Dr. E.-A. MUller, who has for many years given his support for international exchanges in science. The detailed work of organization up to and during the Symposium was in large part due to Dr. T. Kowalewski, who served as Symposium Secretary.
