Chapters 2–8 present a content analysis of the interview responses to the seven significant prenatal personality dimensions that are predictive of pregnancy adap- tion, progress in labor, birth outcomes, and postpartum maternal psychosocial adaptation, and they include: (1) Acceptance of Pregnancy, (2) Identification with a Motherhood Role, (3) Relationship with Mother, (4) Relationship with Husband, (5) Preparation for Labor, (6) (Prenatal) Fear of Pain, Helplessness, and Loss of Control in Labor, and (7) (Prenatal) Fear of Loss of Self-Esteem in Labor. Book Synopsis Psychosocial Adaptation in Pregnancy by : Regina Placzek Lederman
Download or read book Psychosocial Adaptation in Pregnancy written by Regina Placzek Lederman and published by Churchill Livingstone. This book was released on 1996 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking analysis of the psychology of pregnancy, now in a second edition. The author identifies seven distinct areas where the most change and development occur during the nine months of pregnancy, based on her in-depth interviews with pregnant women. The original research on first-time mothers is presented along with information from the author's new research with mothers having second and subsequent children. The scholarly development of theory is intertwined with the "voices" of women describing the emotions experienced in pregnancy in their own words, making this a valuable resource for students, researchers, and clinicians in maternal-child health.
