Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: War, Peace, and Reconciliation invites Christians and their churches into a dialogue regarding how to think about war from a standpoint rooted in faith. It asks how reconciliation, which is central to Christian life and doctrine, can engage with therealities of war without surrendering its fundamental affirmations. Theodore Weber defines these realities politically by discussing the meanings of power, peace as a particular organisation of power, and the international system. The study of war and politics is unavoidable, as is engagement with reconciliation, because all human activity exists in the context of the gracious work of God to renew and reconcile the fallen creation. Weber's inquiry is theocentric and christocentric. It culminates in a stirring call to churches to examine all their practices in the light of this perspective.

This timely volume answers 104 questions from a just-war perspective, offering thoughtful yet succinct answers. Ranging from the theoretical to the practical, the volume looks at how the just-war perspective relates to the philosopher, historian, statesman, theologian, combatant, and individual—with particular emphases on its historical development and application to contemporary geopolitical challenges. Forgoing ideological extremes, Charles and Demy give much attention to the biblical teaching on the subject as they provide moral guidance. A valuable resource for considering the ethical issues relating to war, Christians will find this book's user-friendly format a helpful starting point for discussion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions to Illuminations: A Scarecrow Press Series of Guides to Research in Religion provide students and scholars, lay readers and clergy, with a road map to research in key areas of religious study. All commonly constructed with introductions to the topic and reviews of key thinkers, concepts, and events, each volume includes surveys of the primary and secondary sources, with critical evaluations of their places in the canon of thought and research on the topic. Focusing primarily on the knowledge required by today’s students and scholars, each guide is a must-have for any student of religion. The twentieth century saw an explosion of wars and an accompanying explosion of literature on the morality of war. Thinking among Christian clerics and scholars on the idea of “just war” shifted with developments on the battlefield. Alternatives to just war theory, such as pacifism and realism, found new proponents in the published work of the neo-Anabaptists and Niebhurians. Meanwhile, proponents of Christian just war theory had to address challenges from competing ideologies as well as ththose presented by the changing nature of warfare. Modern Just War Theory: A Guide to Research, by scholar and librarian Michael Farrell, serves as a manual for students and scholars studying Christian just war theory, helping them navigate the wealth of just war literature produced in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Farrell’s guide provides an introduction to the major developments of just war theory in the twentieth century, including sections on how to research just war theory, an overview of some of the most important theorists and developments of the twentieth century, and discussions of key search terms and related topics. Farrell then surveys and evaluates key primary and secondary sources for researchers on just war theory, as well as related sources on Christian realism and the responses of just war theorists to proponents of pacifism and secular just war theories. Modern Just War Theory will appeal to students and scholars of theology, military history, international law, and Christian ethics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should Christians respond to war? This age-old question has become more pressing given Western governments' recent overseas military interventions and the rise of extremist Islamist jihadism. Grounded in conservative evangelical theology, this book argues the historic church position that it is inadmissible for Christians to use violence or take part in war. It shows how the church's propensity to support the "just wars," crusades, rebellions, or "humanitarian interventions" of its host nations over time has been disastrous for the reputation of the gospel. Instead, the church's response to war is simply to be the church, by preaching the gospel and making peace in the love and power of God. The book considers challenges to this argument for "gospel peace." What about warfare in the Old Testament and military metaphors in the New? What of church history? And how do we deal with tyrants like Hitler and terrorists like Islamic State? Charting a path between just war theory and liberal pacifism, numerous inspiring examples from the worldwide church are used to demonstrate effective and authentically Christian responses to violence. The author argues that as Christians increasingly drop their unbiblical addiction to war, we may be entering one of the most exciting periods of church history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The World is undergoing crises of faith in God and peace on earth. These crises are threatening the roots of world civilization. We are indeed at war with the only enemy of God and Man, Satan itself which instigates these crises . The ongoing wars in Syria, Egypt and most Islamic and Communist nations show that leaders like Syria’s President Assad, like Hitler, are clearly influenced by Satan. To address these crises , Pope Francis called on the world to devote Saturday 7, 2013 to Prayer and Fasting for enhancement in the levels of World Peace and Faith . He also called on the Laity in the Church to carry the message of The New Evangelization to the Secular world that cannot be reached through Church teaching . Through these Books , the Author responds to the Pope’s call . His goal is to remind the world of today that its main enemy is Satan , the Devil who is the Master of Lies, Deceptions and Anti-Christ. We can stop blaming and fighting only our neighbors for our wars and crises. The world seems to be forgetting that God commands us to love our neighbors including those we view as our enemies. Satan is the main enemy to blame and fight because it is the only enemy of God and Man whose mission on earth is to tempt us to abandon our faith , love , obedience and service to God and our neighbors . We seem to be forgetting also that Christ established the Pillars of modern civilization , justice, peace, happiness and Good Governance which we enjoy today. His Church had been spreading these Pillars across world history. Through debates with Atheists and other non-believers at secular platforms and language, the Author reminds the world of these facts of its history and calls them back to the roots of its civilization . He reminds them that Satan tempts us to disobey God and follow its evil ways as many people are doing. Today we see many people driving God out of their lives and secular governance. Finally, the Author reminds the world that Christ promised Eternal Life in heaven for those who follow Him and eternal suffering in hell for those who follow the enemy. Christ had promised these will happen at His End Time Judgment. It is therefore appropriate that the world be reminded in “This Year of Faith” that God’s commandments extend to both our religious and secular lives and Governance. So, as we promise at Baptism , let’s reject Satan and all its Lies, Deceptions and False Promises and stop its temptation to drive God out of our lives and governance .
