Book Synopsis Multiset Processing by : Cristian Calude
Download or read book Multiset Processing written by Cristian Calude and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-12-14 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multiset, as a set with multiplicities associated with its elements in the form of natural numbers, is a notation which has appeared again and again in various areas of mathematics and computer science. As a data structure, multisets stand in-between strings/lists, where a linear ordering of symbols/items is present, and sets, where no ordering and no multiplicity is considered. This book presents a selection of thoroughly reviewed revised full papers contributed to a workshop on multisets held in Curtea de Arges, Romania in August 2000 together with especially commissioned papers. All in all, the book assesses the state of the art of the notion of multisets, the mathematical background, and the computer science and molecular computing relevance.

Book Synopsis Unique Chips and Systems by : Eugene John
Download or read book Unique Chips and Systems written by Eugene John and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Which came first, the system or the chip? While integrated circuits enable technology for the modern information age, computing, communication, and network chips fuel it. As soon as the integration ability of modern semiconductor technology offers presents opportunities, issues in power consumption, reliability, and form-factor present challenges. The demands of emerging software applications can only be met with unique systems and chips. Drawing on contributors from academia, research, and industry, Unique Systems and Chips explores unique approaches to designing future computing and communication chips and systems. The book focuses on specialized hardware and systems as opposed to general-purpose chips and systems. It covers early conception and simulation, mid-development, application, testing, and performance. The chapter authors introduce new ideas and innovations in unique aspects of chips and system design, then go on to provide in-depth analysis of these ideas. They explore ways in which these chips and systems may be used in further designs or products, spurring innovations beyond the intended scopes of those presented. International in flavor, the book brings industrial and academic perspectives into focus by presenting the full spectrum of applications of chips and systems.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Parallel Processing by : Behrooz Parhami
Download or read book Introduction to Parallel Processing written by Behrooz Parhami and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE CONTEXT OF PARALLEL PROCESSING The field of digital computer architecture has grown explosively in the past two decades. Through a steady stream of experimental research, tool-building efforts, and theoretical studies, the design of an instruction-set architecture, once considered an art, has been transformed into one of the most quantitative branches of computer technology. At the same time, better understanding of various forms of concurrency, from standard pipelining to massive parallelism, and invention of architectural structures to support a reasonably efficient and user-friendly programming model for such systems, has allowed hardware performance to continue its exponential growth. This trend is expected to continue in the near future. This explosive growth, linked with the expectation that performance will continue its exponential rise with each new generation of hardware and that (in stark contrast to software) computer hardware will function correctly as soon as it comes off the assembly line, has its down side. It has led to unprecedented hardware complexity and almost intolerable dev- opment costs. The challenge facing current and future computer designers is to institute simplicity where we now have complexity; to use fundamental theories being developed in this area to gain performance and ease-of-use benefits from simpler circuits; to understand the interplay between technological capabilities and limitations, on the one hand, and design decisions based on user and application requirements on the other.

Book Synopsis Autonomy Requirements Engineering for Space Missions by : Emil Vassev
Download or read book Autonomy Requirements Engineering for Space Missions written by Emil Vassev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced space exploration is performed by unmanned missions with integrated autonomy in both flight and ground systems. Risk and feasibility are major factors supporting the use of unmanned craft and the use of automation and robotic technologies where possible. Autonomy in space helps to increase the amount of science data returned from missions, perform new science, and reduce mission costs. Elicitation and expression of autonomy requirements is one of the most significant challenges the autonomous spacecraft engineers need to overcome today. This book discusses the Autonomy Requirements Engineering (ARE) approach, intended to help software engineers properly elicit, express, verify, and validate autonomy requirements. Moreover, a comprehensive state-of-the-art of software engineering for aerospace is presented to outline the problems handled by ARE along with a proof-of-concept case study on the ESA's BepiColombo Mission demonstrating the ARE’s ability to handle autonomy requirements.
Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of Distances by : Michel Marie Deza
Download or read book Encyclopedia of Distances written by Michel Marie Deza and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-08 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This updated and revised third edition of the leading reference volume on distance metrics includes new items from very active research areas in the use of distances and metrics such as geometry, graph theory, probability theory and analysis. Among the new topics included are, for example, polyhedral metric space, nearness matrix problems, distances between belief assignments, distance-related animal settings, diamond-cutting distances, natural units of length, Heidegger’s de-severance distance, and brain distances. The publication of this volume coincides with intensifying research efforts into metric spaces and especially distance design for applications. Accurate metrics have become a crucial goal in computational biology, image analysis, speech recognition and information retrieval. Leaving aside the practical questions that arise during the selection of a ‘good’ distance function, this work focuses on providing the research community with an invaluable comprehensive listing of the main available distances. As well as providing standalone introductions and definitions, the encyclopedia facilitates swift cross-referencing with easily navigable bold-faced textual links to core entries. In addition to distances themselves, the authors have collated numerous fascinating curiosities in their Who’s Who of metrics, including distance-related notions and paradigms that enable applied mathematicians in other sectors to deploy research tools that non-specialists justly view as arcane. In expanding access to these techniques, and in many cases enriching the context of distances themselves, this peerless volume is certain to stimulate fresh research.

The papers in the volume illustrate the current state of the art in the application of EC and should help and inspire researchers and professionals to develop e?cient EC methods for design and problem solving. All papers in this book were presented during EvoApplications 2010, which included a range of events on application-oriented aspects of EC. Since 1998, EvoApplications — formerly known as EvoWorkshops— has provided a unique opportunity for EC researchers to meet and discuss application aspects of EC and has been an important link between EC research and its application in a variety of domains. During these 12 years, new events have arisen, some have disappeared, whileothershavematuredtobecomeconferencesoftheirown, such as EuroGP in 2000, EvoCOP in 2004, and EvoBIO in 2007. And from this year, EvoApplications has become a conference as well.
