Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speaking to audiences in Denmark, Germany and France, Rudolf Steiner discusses a wide range of topics: from positive and negative human soul capacities, true self-knowledge and karma, to changes in human consciousness, from ancient times to the modern era – all in the context of the incarnation of Christ on earth. The lectures illustrate the diversity of Steiner’s approach when speaking to different audiences. Reflecting on the polymath Novalis, for example, he is urgent about the responsibility of spiritual science to help humanity awaken to the new age. A few months later, talking of Hegel and deploring the fact that an interest in spiritual matters often fails to be accompanied by an equal interest in logical thought, Steiner uses a dispassionate, philosophical tone. But throughout the lectures he is consistent in his view that spiritual science does not reject conventional science. Trained philosophical thinking leads to different conclusions than materialism, he says, but there is nothing in the field of spiritual science that need be rejected by rigorous scientific thought. Although the lectures were given to a variety of audiences, ideas recur from different perspectives and in different contexts, with strong thematic links binding them together. These include the relationship between philosophy and science; the nature of clairvoyance; Christ’s presence in the etheric realm; reincarnation and karma; the mystery drama The Portal of Initiation; Christmas and its symbols; and the transformation of consciousness that occurred when Christ incarnated physically on earth. In the final lectures, Rudolf Steiner speaks inspiringly about the Christmas festival, contrasting the feeling of inwardness that people used to experience with the hectic cultural environment of modern cities. However, this does not lead Steiner to be nostalgic about the past. Rather, he states, we should seek to recreate a mood of inwardness in a new way, appropriate to our modern age and consciousness. These lectures give us the tools to bring such a contemporary spiritual approach to our lives.

It will no longer be satisfied with ambling along. It wants to get hold of its destiny, face it, and see where it is going, what it has achieved, and what other lessons are needed And then the soul, of its own volition, will become the captain of its ship, it will guide its own destiny, it will face the turbulent seas and storms and steer it through to calmer waters. This book offers a basic knowledge of spirituality. It answers questions that have been presented to the author over many years of facilitating workshops, giving talks, and seminars both in the UK and internationally. It also gives us guidance in how to find the inner self. Here is a quote from the book: As we continue the path and we start stripping off the layers that bind us, we will notice a different us emerging. That new person may be a little unfamiliar, a little uncertain, but at least its a more honest person. Gradually we get to know this person better, and as our confidence builds up, we will find an inner surge of strength and fortitude to carry on even more strongly in our search. This inner person is the real usthe beautiful light that has been hidden behind the scars, the jewel that has been polished by all the experiences of our struggles and battles, the rose that has been waiting to blossom by all the fruits of our endeavours, the one true being who is one with the universe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Spiritual Guides: Pathfinders in the Desert, Fred Dallmayr challenges the "desert character" of modern culture. Political and economic corruption, incessant warmongering, spoliation of natural resources, and, above all, mindless consumerism and greedy self-satisfaction are all symptoms of what he contends is an expanding wasteland or desert where everything creative and nourishing decays and withers. Through an alternative interpretation of Nietzsche's saying "the desert grows," this book calls for spiritual renewal, invoking in particular four prominent guides or pathfinders in the desert: Paul Tillich, Raimon Panikkar, Thomas Merton, and Pope Francis. What links all four guides together is the view of spiritual life as an itinerarium, a pathway along difficult and often uncharted roads. Dallmayr begins by drawing a connection between Nietzsche's characterization of the desert in Thus Spoke Zarathustra and the present culture of consumerism, in which a nearly-exclusive emphasis on productivity, efficiency, profitability, and the transformation of everything valuable into a useful resource prevails over all other goals. He also draws attention to another sense of "desert," namely, as a place of solitude, meditation, and retreat from affliction. Aptly defined, it becomes a place where spirituality arises from a painful "turning-about": a wrenching effort to extricate human life from the decay of late modernity. Spirituality is not a possession or property but rather the contemplation and radical mindfulness that we develop through engaged practices as we search for pathways to recovery. Spirituality becomes critical in the dominant political and cultural wasteland because it provides a bond linking humanity together. In the spirit of global ecumenism, Spiritual Guides also includes a discussion of Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist forms of spirituality. This book will interest students and scholars of philosophy, political theory, and religion.

Book excerpt: The journey of the spirit is not marked by a smooth, four-lane highway. Rather, like the path through a Zen garden, it is curved, with many switchbacks and lots of turns. While there may be many beginnings, there really is no destination. Its goal is self-awareness, enlightenment, and inner peace. It is a journey we take with our lives. In his latest book, Rabbi Terry Bookman explores the many ups and downs associated with the life of the spirit. Drawing on the ancient traditions of Judaism. A Soul's Journey serves as a kind of roadmap for the path, offering practical insights and modern applications along the way. Rabbi Bookman has been described as a "wise and compassionate teacher" who combines knowledge from a wide variety of disciplines and religious faiths to challenge and encourage his students and readers. He is the author of two books, The Busy Soul and God 101, and the co-author of two CDs of contemporary Jewish music.

Book excerpt: The book Discovering Your Passion: The Path of the Spiritual Warrior is a result of a research grant Officer received as a professor at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1997. The research grant looked into the meaning of the modern day warrior ethos. The book has been a work in progress over the past thirteen years. Officer has found that we have both a warrior and a spiritual side to our minds rather than logical and creative. The warrior side is interested in the bottom line, is quick to judge, and has a certain toughness. The spiritual side is focused on the process, forgiveness, and exudes calmness. The fusion of these two sides is called The Path of the Spiritual Warrior. One without the other leaves a gap in the character of the person. In the past men have gravitated towards the warrior perspective while women focused on the spiritual side. It is important in todays day in age for both men and women to synchronize these two concepts together in order to be whole. There are fifteen concepts which make up both sides of the spiritual warrior perspective including passion, goals, fear, calm, honest, effort, determination, It will be done attitude, belief, competitive, courage, responsible, serve, awareness, and ethics. Each of these are crucial to true peace of mind. This book offers readers with a plan including an enclosed workbook of how to achieve this path. The process shows the person how to reach their full potential in a simple yet insightful way. Seminars: John Officer is available for seminars. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes that humanity is going through a spiritual awakening that is driving it into a quest for self-knowledge. This quest will, in time, bring humanity to the gates of self-realization and the inevitable acceptance that divinity is not only an outward manifestation but that it is innate and inherent, and forms the core of being of each human life. This quest is a profoundly personal one, and as such it should challenge all preconceived notions and structured beliefs. If you take your quest in earnest, the simple narrative of these experiences will prove to be real gems along the way. The author in writing this book brings to the surface in very simple terms a new understanding of Divinity that will hopefully move the concept from the halls of the theologians and esoterists to the avid minds of humanity, where it is most needed.

Book excerpt: Why should you start a spiritual journey? Why does a human being, at some point in his life, realize that science, religion and academic philosophies cannot give him the answers he seeks? Scientific knowledge reveals its inability to provide real answers to the great mysteries of birth and death.Different spiritual traditions have given us the keys and the methods to find these answers: the hermetic-alchemical tradition, the tradition of Shamanism and the Indian yogic tradition (Raja Yoga, Kriya yoga and Advaita Vedanta), and the Tibetan Buddhism tradition. All the exercises proposed, although belonging to different traditions and schools, are linked to the same modalities and objectives, in a unique and coherent path. Spiritual Tradition is One, although it has taken on different forms over the ages and in different geographical places. The researcher, who has become a disciple, will find the most hidden secrets not only of humanity but of the entire universe in the depths of his being.Behind the scenes of ordinary existence, there is the ineffable unknown, and during his journey of knowledge, the disciple will receive sudden and unexpected revelations of this mystery, of a force that governs all that exists, and which constitutes all beings, as luminous source of regenerating energy. As he proceeds along this path, he will understand how to get in touch with this force, drawing on it and using it in his consciousness. The spiritual path is like the science, in which the fundamental data is experience, as well as experimentation as a test bench. You will choose the path and practices most suitable for you, building your own personal way. Going forward with this research, you will gradually discover that your true being has a supersensitive nature and origin, and that in your depths lives something precious that can give you real harmony, security, inner firmness against the many obstacles of existence. You will then find out, that all the external masters are there to show you that the true master is within you.
