Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirty children will become Archangel Lucifer’s assassins. They were all created to obey blindly—all but one. In an enclosed multilevel complex, they train to fulfill a simple task. Get in. Kill. Get out. From a tower overlooking the school, Lucifer’s scientists guide the children to maturity. With the push of a button, bracelets control every minute of every hour. All their activities are a stepping stone to their first kill. But a birthmark on A30’s forearm reveals she might be the very thing they trained her to kill…a human. She must now make her way up to the Archive and uncover the truth about her past before someone finds her and takes her away. And those that are taken away never come back the same. The second book in the 444 Series, Path of The Hybrids, is a mythological story that continues the saga from Hefnd. If you like mythology and Science Fantasy, you will love Path of the Hybrids. Join A30 on her quest for the truth.

Book excerpt: The main goal of this book is to provide a state of the art of hybrid metaheuristics. The book provides a complete background that enables readers to design and implement hybrid metaheuristics to solve complex optimization problems (continuous/discrete, mono-objective/multi-objective, optimization under uncertainty) in a diverse range of application domains. Readers learn to solve large scale problems quickly and efficiently combining metaheuristics with complementary metaheuristics, mathematical programming, constraint programming and machine learning. Numerous real-world examples of problems and solutions demonstrate how hybrid metaheuristics are applied in such fields as networks, logistics and transportation, bio-medical, engineering design, scheduling.

Book excerpt: In this dissertation, methods for optimal multi-robot task allocation (MRTA) for industrial plant inspection are investigated. MRTA involves distributing and scheduling a set of tasks for a group of robots to minimize the total cost taking into account operational constraints. With technical progress and declining cost of robotic mobility, interest in industrial mobile robotics has grown significantly in recent years. Many efforts have been devoted to mobility-related problems such as self-localization and mapping, though only few studies deal with the optimal task allocation in multi-robot systems. Since a good task allocation provides more efficient scheduling (e.g. less cost, shorter time), the objective of this research is to develop search/optimization methods for inspection problems that involve both single- and two-robot tasks.

Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Fourth Workshop on Hybrid - stems: Computation and Control (HSCC 2001) held in Rome, Italy on March 28-30, 2001. The Workshop on Hybrid Systems attracts researchers from in- stry and academia interested in modeling, analysis, synthesis, and implemen- tion of dynamic and reactive systems involving both discrete (integer, logical, symbolic) and continuous behaviors. It is a forum for the discussion of the - test developments in all aspects of hybrid systems, including formal models and computational representations, algorithms and heuristics, computational tools, and new challenging applications. The Fourth HSCC International Workshop continues the series of workshops held in Grenoble, France (HART’97), Berkeley, California, USA (HSCC’98), N- megen, The Netherlands (HSCC’99), and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (HSCC 2000). Proceedings of these workshops have been published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series by Springer-Verlag. In line with the beautiful work that led to the design of the palace in which the workshop was held, Palazzo Lancellotti in Rome, resulting from the col- boration of many artists and architects of di erent backgrounds, the challenge faced by the hybrid system community is to harmonize and extract the best from two main research areas: computer science and control theory.

Book excerpt: Hybrid Optimization focuses on the application of artificial intelligence and operations research techniques to constraint programming for solving combinatorial optimization problems. This book covers the most relevant topics investigated in the last ten years by leading experts in the field, and speculates about future directions for research. This book includes contributions by experts from different but related areas of research including constraint programming, decision theory, operations research, SAT, artificial intelligence, as well as others. These diverse perspectives are actively combined and contrasted in order to evaluate their relative advantages. This volume presents techniques for hybrid modeling, integrated solving strategies including global constraints, decomposition techniques, use of relaxations, and search strategies including tree search local search and metaheuristics. Various applications of the techniques presented as well as supplementary computational tools are also discussed.
