Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction Marian and I were together for forty one years. She passed away on September 21,2008 at 12:40 am. It took me two years to look at all the hallmark cards I gave her and she gave me. She was the sorceress of cards. She did not need a special occasion (like I did) to give a card. She just gave you one. She would drive ten miles to put a card on your door if she felt you needed a lift. She was not a religious person. She was a person with a big heart and a smile who would give herself to you completely. She was involved in many charities. Her favorite was Childrens Home Society ; where she volunteered for twenty five years. At the end of her life she was donating to some fifteen charities. I am attempting to show the kindness and generosity of my wife. I did not include the words of the cards she gave because they are all copy righted. I did include some letters and words she wrote on the cards. She took card giving seriously. When she gave you a card she felt and meant what the card said. Hoping you saw what she was trying to say. Card companies do a great job and they brought great joy to my wife. I thank them for that. I hope you get a great feel for who my wife was. I am sure there are women in America who buy cards every week and categorize them in a large box just like my wife. I praise you for your generosity and kindness. Thank you for listening. I love you !

Book excerpt: When a woman is murdered in her home with some curious clues left behind, a seasoned detective and curious citizen embark on separate missions to unravel the mystery. Fergusson Wright Hume (8 July 1859 - 12 July 1932) was an English novelist. He was a prolific writer, producing more than 100 novels and short stories in his lifetime. Hume wrote many popular mystery stories and is considered a progenitor of the modern detective genre. Other notable works by this author include: "The Mystery of a Hansom Cab" (1886), "The White Room" (1904), and "The Caretaker" (1915). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author. First published in 1905.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on Forster’s personal experiences working and travelling in India in the 1920s, A Passage to India is set in British India in the midst of the Indian independence movement. The story follows an Indian Muslim physician, Dr. Aziz, and his burgeoning friendship with two visiting Englishwomen and Cyril Fielding, a local university principal. Things are brought to a head when during a trip to the Marabar Caves, Dr. Aziz is accused of sexually assaulting one of the women. The subsequent trial is protracted and painful, and serves to highlight the racial tensions between Englishmen and Indians at the time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the crossroads between international relations and anthropology, The Migrant Passage analyzes how people from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala navigate the dangerous and uncertain clandestine journey across Mexico to the United States. However much advance planning they do, they survive the journey through improvisation. Central American migrants improvise upon social roles and physical objects, leveraging them for new purposes along the way. Over time, the accumulation of individual journeys has cut a path across the socioeconomic and political landscape of Mexico, generating a social and material infrastructure that guides future passages and complicates borders. Tracing the survival strategies of migrants during the journey to the North, The Migrant Passage shows how their mobility reshapes the social landscape of Mexico, and the book explores the implications for the future of sovereignty and the nation-state. To trace the continuous renewal of the transit corridor, Noelle Brigden draws upon over two years of in-depth, multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork along human smuggling routes from Central America across Mexico and into the United States. In so doing, she shows the value of disciplinary and methodological border crossing between international relations and anthropology, to understand the relationships between human security, international borders, and clandestine transnationalism.
