Book Synopsis Haunted History of Pasco County, A by : Madonna Jervis Wise
Download or read book Haunted History of Pasco County, A written by Madonna Jervis Wise and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2020 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a land occupied for thousands of years, mystery and unrest linger. Anguished soldierly figures dot the landscape of Pasco County, from the doomed march of Major Dade and his haunted hill to the ghost of Captain Jeffries standing watch over his homestead in Zephyrhills. A pair of spirits drifts about near a Dade City pond, perhaps the brother and sister cut down during the infamous Bradley Massacre. Echoes of the once rugged frontier rebound from the Ellis-Gillett feud, vigilantism and Sheriff Bart's justice. Obliterating the mounds of indigenous people cast an ever-present and ominous tone over sacred grounds throughout the county. Author Madonna Wise shares ethereal accounts of the Meighan Theatre, the treacherous Road to Nowhere, the Edwinola Hotel and more.

Download or read book Hudson written by Jeff Cannon and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While Hudson was first settled around 1872, the community's namesake Isaac Washington Hudson Sr.'s family did not permanently move here until 1878. By 1884, the new town of Hudson had been platted, and the community's first post office and school were built. In its infancy, the community grew fast and residents relied upon the lands and Gulf waters for their livelihood. With the fast-growing community came the establishment of numerous sponging and fishing businesses in addition to farms. The banks of the big Hudson Spring were becoming the center of commerce, and there the resident businessmen constructed their docks, fish houses, mercantile stores, hotels, and more. Today, with a development on every corner and vacant lands becoming extinct, it is extremely hard to imagine those times. Little of this past remains, and in its place the bulldozers are paving Hudson with progress.
