Book excerpt: Though they are polar opposites in many ways, best friends Bryce and Thea are both attracted to all things horror, including true crime - and to prove it, they co-host weekly podcast episodes of Perfect Crimes together with their producer, Mikey, in the dusty basement of Stone Grange's local bookstore. When a string of murders suddenly begins to plague their small, unassuming town and the police find themselves at a loss, it seems that there's nobody more qualified to help solve the mystery. However, it's soon realized that Bryce and Thea are already more entangled than they could have ever expected, because the murders follow a pattern. Their pattern. With every case discussed in the podcast comes a new imitation of the circumstances surrounding the victim's death, and Bryce and Thea find themselves trapped in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the killer, as their friendship - and feelings that they've always left hidden until now - is pushed to its breaking point. When the evidence begins to pile up, conflicting suspicions of the killer's identity begin to rise, and friends and acquaintances of the duo become victims; things seem to get closer to them with each death. Can they survive the dark shadow following them around town, and remain the strong-willed, closely connected partners in crime they've always been? Or will their obsession with murder prove their undoing in a final, emotional showdown as the killer is revealed?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel around the world and inside the minds of monsters in this true crime anthology featuring sixteen astonishing serial killer exposés. Serial killers: Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Jeffrey Dahmer are often the first names that spring to mind. Many people assume serial killers are primarily an American phenomenon that came about in the latter part of the twentieth century—but such assumptions are far from the truth. Serial killers have been around for a long time and can be found in every corner of the globe―and they’re not just limited to the male gender, either. Some of these predators have been caught and brought to justice whereas others have never been found, let alone identified. Serial killers can be anywhere. And scarier still, they can be anyone. Edited by acclaimed author and anthologist Mitzi Szereto, The Best New True Crime Stories: Serial Killers reveals all-new accounts of true-crime serial killers from the contemporary to the historic. The international list of contributors includes award-winning crime writers, true-crime podcasters, journalists, and experts in the dark crimes field such as Martin Edwards, Lee Mellor, Danuta Kot, Craig Pittman, Richard O. Jones, Marcie Rendon, Mike Browne, and Vicki Hendricks. This book will leave you wondering if it’s ever really possible to know who’s behind the mask you’re allowed to see. Perfect for readers of true crime books such as I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, Mindhunter, The Devil in the White City, or Sons of Cain. “An engrossing and multi-faceted anthology for a new era of true crime writing.” ―Piper Weiss, author of You All Grow Up and Leave Me

Book Synopsis Report on criminal liability of partnerships by : Scottish Law Commission
Download or read book Report on criminal liability of partnerships written by Scottish Law Commission and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-12-13 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A failed prosecution following the fatal fire at the Rosepark nursing home in 2004 highlighted a problem with the law: a partnership could not be prosecuted once it had been dissolved. The Commission's report addresses this problem and recommends that it should remain competent to prosecute a partnership during a period of 5 years following its dissolution. The Report also includes a draft Bill which would give effect to its recommendations. In 2003, the Scottish Law Commission and the Law Commission published their joint report on Partnership Law (Cm.6015, SE paper 299, ISBN 9780101601528). This recommended comprehensive reform of the law of partnership, including the circumstances and effects of dissolution. The Scottish Law Commission's preferred long-term solution to the issue identified in the Rosepark case would be the implementation by the UK Government of the recommendations in the joint report on Partnership law. While the project on Criminal Liability of Partnerships was prompted by the failure of the attempted prosecutions following the Rosepark fire, the Commission emphasises that it is concerned with reforming the law for the future. The Report is not concerned with the facts of the Rosepark fire, and the Commission expresses no view as to the merits of the attempted prosecution of those involved.

Book Synopsis Impacts of Sex Crime Laws on the Female Partners of Convicted Offenders by : Lisa Anne Zilney
Download or read book Impacts of Sex Crime Laws on the Female Partners of Convicted Offenders written by Lisa Anne Zilney and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-01 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is an exploratory examination of the experiences, motivations, and coping mechanisms of women who are involved in intimate relationships with registered sexual offenders. The study focuses both on women who were involved with an offender prior to the commission of his offense and who stayed with him post-conviction, and on women who became involved with a registered offender after his sex offense conviction. Like the offender himself, these women face a variety of challenges in responding to treatment of them by friends, family, the community, and the criminal justice system. Utilizing the results of intensive interviews, this work provides a unique look at the women who are one of the few sources of support for registered sexual offenders and assesses the effectiveness and wide-ranging implications of community notification and registration laws on public safety, policy, and practice. This work offers alternative approaches based on evidence and case studies and considers the significance of familial contact in buffering sexual recidivism. These women are the heretofore unstudied victims of sexual offending legislation. This book is essential reading for those in sociology, criminology, psychology, and social work. For undergraduate or graduate students, practitioners, researchers, or policy makers, this thought-provoking book will shed light on how to optimize the reintegration of sex offenders. It assesses the effectiveness and wide-ranging implications of sex offender legislation on public safety, policy, and practice and considers alternative approaches to reduce sexual violence.
