Book Synopsis Parametric Design of Interplanetary and Orbital Trajectories with Examples for Mars 1973, 1975, and 1977 Opportunities by : John F. Newcomb
Download or read book Parametric Design of Interplanetary and Orbital Trajectories with Examples for Mars 1973, 1975, and 1977 Opportunities written by John F. Newcomb and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for parametrically studying the general interplanetary trajectory design problem is discussed; the method couples the design of interplanetary trajectories with the resulting planetary orbits obtainable from various launch and arrival opportunities. The procedure is applied to the trajectories which could be launched to Mars in the years 1973, 1975, and 1977, and for those opportunities, a set of parametric charts for use in designing Mars missions is included. The important mission parameters are presented and discussed, and launch windows are established which maximize payload in planetary orbit for a coplanar periapsis deboost.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This modern presentation guides readers through the theory and practice of satellite orbit prediction and determination. Starting from the basic principles of orbital mechanics, it covers elaborate force models as well as precise methods of satellite tracking. The accompanying CD-ROM includes source code in C++ and relevant data files for applications. The result is a powerful and unique spaceflight dynamics library, which allows users to easily create software extensions. An extensive collection of frequently updated Internet resources is provided through WWW hyperlinks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This overview aims to inform the public discussion of space-based weapons by examining their characteristics, potential attributes, limitations, legality, and utility. The authors do not argue for or against space weapons, nor do they estimate the potential costs and performance of specific programs, but instead sort through the realities and myths surrounding space weapons in order to ensure that debates and discussions are based on fact.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar sailing - using the sun as a propellant - offers the possibility of low-cost long-distance missions that are impossible with conventional spacecraft. This first comprehensive book on this propulsion method provides a detailed account of solar sailing, at a high technical level, but in a way accessible to the scientifically informed layperson. Solar sail orbital dynamics and solar radiation pressure form the foundations of the book, but the engineering design of solar sails is also considered, along with potential mission applications.
Book Synopsis Deep Space Telecommunications Systems Engineering by : Joseph H. Yuen
Download or read book Deep Space Telecommunications Systems Engineering written by Joseph H. Yuen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenge of communication in planetary exploration has been unusual. The guidance and control of spacecraft depend on reliable communication. Scientific data returned to earth are irreplaceable, or replaceable only at the cost of another mission. In deep space, communications propagation is good, relative to terrestrial communications, and there is an opportunity to press toward the mathematical limit of microwave communication. Yet the limits must be approached warily, with reliability as well as channel capacity in mind. Further, the effects of small changes in the earth's atmosphere and the interplanetary plasma have small but important effects on propagation time and hence on the measurement of distance. Advances are almost incredible. Communication capability measured in 18 bits per second at a given range rose by a factor of 10 in the 19 years from Explorer I of 1958 to Voyager of 1977. This improvement was attained through ingenious design based on the sort of penetrating analysis set forth in this book by engineers who took part in a highly detailed and amazingly successful pro gram. Careful observation and analysis have told us much about limitations on the accurate measurement of distance. It is not easy to get busy people to tell others clearly and in detail how they have solved important problems. Joseph H. Yuen and the other contribu tors to this book are to be commended for the time and care they have devoted to explicating one vital aspect of a great adventure of mankind.
