Book Synopsis Dynamic Impact Factors for Bridges by : David I. McLean
Download or read book Dynamic Impact Factors for Bridges written by David I. McLean and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1998 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to state department of transportation and consulting bridge, structural, and research engineers. The synthesis describes the current state of the practice for determining dynamic impact factors for bridges. Information for the synthesis was collected by surveying U.S. and Canadian transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search using domestic and foreign sources. This report of the Transportation Research Board documents relevant background and recent information with regard to vehicular dynamic load effects on bridges. It provides details on the basic concepts of bridge dynamics, including identification of the main variables affecting bridge dynamic response. In addition, current code provisions for accounting for vehicular dynamic load effects for new bridge design and load evaluation of existing bridges are reported, including a discussion on the background of the provisions. Finally, a discussion of observed field problems associated with vehicular dynamic load effects, as obtained from the survey, are included.
Book Synopsis Vehicle-bridge Interaction Dynamics by : Yeong-Bin Yang
Download or read book Vehicle-bridge Interaction Dynamics written by Yeong-Bin Yang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The commercial operation of the bullet train in 1964 in Japan markedthe beginning of a new era for high-speed railways. Because of thehuge amount of kinetic energy carried at high speeds, a train mayinteract significantly with the bridge and even resonate with it undercertain circumstances. Equally important is the riding comfort of thetrain cars, which relates closely to the maneuverability of the trainduring its passage over the bridge at high speeds.

Book Synopsis Dynamics of Railway Vehicle Systems by : Vijay Garg
Download or read book Dynamics of Railway Vehicle Systems written by Vijay Garg and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics of Railway Vehicle Systems offers a comprehensive and analytical treatment of the rail-wheel interaction problem and its effect on vehicle dynamics. The development of mathematical models and their applications to dynamic analyses and the design of railway vehicles are discussed. This book consists of 11 chapters and opens with an overview of the background material required to study the dynamics of railway vehicles, with emphasis on analytical techniques used to determine the dynamic response of single- and multiple-degree-of-freedom systems. Numerical solutions of linear and nonlinear dynamic systems are also given, and various problems associated with the dynamic behavior of railway vehicles are addressed. Several mathematical models are proposed to study these problems. The following chapters focus on the wheel-rail rolling contact theories being applied in railway vehicle dynamics problems; modeling of the vehicle and its components on both tangent and curved railroad tracks; and the interaction between railway vehicles and bridges. The final chapter underscores the needs for validating mathematical models that are used to study the dynamic behavior of railway vehicles and train consists. This monograph will be of value to design and research engineers, transportation officials, mathematicians, analysts, and research workers interested in the dynamics of railway vehicle systems.

Book Synopsis Reliability and Safety of Cable-Supported Bridges by : Naiwei Lu
Download or read book Reliability and Safety of Cable-Supported Bridges written by Naiwei Lu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-17 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridge design and construction technologies have experienced remarkable developments in recent decades, and numerous long-span bridges have been built or are under construction all over the world. Cable-supported bridges, including cable-stayed bridges and suspension bridges, are the main type of these long-span bridges, and are widely used in highways crossing gorges, rivers, and gulfs, due to their superior structural mechanical properties and beautiful appearance. However, cable-supported bridges suffer from harsh environmental effects and complex loading conditions, such as heavier traffic loads, strong winds, corrosion effects, and other natural disasters. Therefore, the lifetime safety evaluation of these long-span bridges considering the rigorous service environments is an essential task. Features: Presents a comprehensive explanation of system reliability evaluation for all aspects of cable-supported bridges. Includes a comprehensive presentation of the application of system reliability theory in bridge design, safety control, and operational management. Addresses fatigue reliability, dynamic reliability and seismic reliability assessment of bridges. Presents a complete investigation and case study in each chapter, allowing readers to understand the applicability for real-world scenarios. Reliability and Safety of Cable-Supported Bridges provides a comprehensive application and guidelines for system reliability techniques in cable-supported bridges. Serving as a practical educational resource for both undergraduate and graduate level students, practicing engineers, and researchers, it also intends to provide an intuitive appreciation for probability theory, statistical methods, and reliability analysis methods.
