This book was released on 2020-11-15 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paradise Lost concerns the biblical story of the Fall of Man. The epic poem follows two narrative arcs, one about Satan and the other following Adam and Eve. It begins after Satan and the other rebel angels have been defeated and banished to Hell. The narrative follows the temptation of Adam and Eve by Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. After losing the total freedom and power to rule over all creation, Archangel Michael gives Adam a glimpse at Mankind's potential redemption from original sin. Paradise Lost is an epic poem by the 17th-century English poet John Milton. Milton's 17th-century contemporaries by and large criticised his ideas and considered him as a radical, mostly because of his views on politics and religion. Milton also revolted against the idea of a monarch ruling by divine right, viewing the practice as idolatrous. Paradise Lost is considered by critics to be Milton's major work, and it helped solidify his reputation as one of the greatest English poets of his time. This case laminate collector's edition includes a Victorian inspired dust-jacket.

Book excerpt: The Divine Comedy describes Dante's travels through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise and represents the soul's journey towards God. This edition includes the complete texts of Dante's Inferno, Purgatoria, and Paradiso. Inferno - Inferno begins with Dante lost in a dark wood, assailed by beasts he cannot evade, and unable to find the straight way to salvation. Conscious that he is ruining himself and that he is falling into a dark place, Dante is at last rescued by Virgil, and the two of them begin their journey to the underworld. Allegorically, the Inferno represents the Christian soul seeing sin for what it really is, and the three beasts represent three types of sin: the self-indulgent, the violent, and the malicious. Purgatoria - Having survived the depths of Hell, Dante and Virgil ascend out of the undergloom to the Mountain of Purgatory on the far side of the world. The mountain has seven terraces, corresponding to the seven deadly sins. Dante's illustrative examples of sin and virtue draw on classical sources as well as on the Bible and on contemporary events. Paradiso - After an initial ascension, Beatrice guides Dante through the nine celestial spheres of Heaven. These are concentric and spherical, as in Aristotelian and Ptolemaic cosmology. The structure of Paradiso is based on the four cardinal virtues and the three theological virtues. In Paradiso, Dante meets and converses with several great saints of the Church, including Saint Peter, and St. John. Allegorically, the poem represents the soul's ascent to God. Book excerpt: Allan Quatermain, an adventurer and hunter, is approached by aristocrat Sir Henry Curtis, seeking his help finding Sir Henry's brother, who was last seen travelling north into the unexplored interior on a quest for the fabled King Solomon's Mines. Quartermain agrees to lead an expedition, but the travellers soon meet a party of Kukuana warriors who are ruled by a violent king. King Solomon's Mines is the first English adventure novel set in Africa, and is considered to be the genesis of the lost world literary genre. Haggard wrote the novel as a result of a five-shilling wager with his brother, who said that he could not write a novel half as good as Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. The book was published in 1885 and became the year's best seller, with printers struggling to print copies fast enough. This case laminate collector's edition includes a Victorian inspired dust-jacket.

Book excerpt: Treasure Island follows the adventures of a cabin boy named Jim Hawkins on board the Hispaniola. Hawkins is in for the adventure of a lifetime, as he braves dangerous waters, lives through a mutiny, and searches for buried treasure. Treasure Island is traditionally considered a coming-of-age story, and is noted for its atmosphere, characters, and action. It is also noted as a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality - as seen in Long John Silver - unusual for children's literature. It is one of the most frequently dramatized of all novels. Its influence is enormous on popular perceptions of pirates, including such elements as treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen bearing parrots on their shoulders. This case laminate collector's edition includes a Victorian inspired dust-jacket.
