Readers will also appreciate the multidimensional view of financial and non-financial performance measurement of businesses.Specifically, the goal of this research-based handbook is to provide a comprehensive guide for business students and managers by discussing a range of issues from the diverse emerging markets and enabling them to develop a strategic mindset for a market-oriented culture. Book Synopsis Papua New Guinea: Critical Development Constraints by : Asian Development Bank
Download or read book Papua New Guinea: Critical Development Constraints written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2012-04-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papua New Guinea's economic growth has outpaced the majority of economies in Southeast Asia and the Pacific since 2007. Its development challenges, however, remain daunting, and it lags behind other countries in the region in terms of per capita income and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. This raises the question of how the country can make its economic growth high, sustained, inclusive, and broad-based to more effectively improve its population's welfare. This report identifies the critical constraints to these objectives and discusses policy options to help overcome such constraints.
Book Synopsis Managing Macroeconomic Policies for Sustainable Growth by : John Asafu-Adjaye
Download or read book Managing Macroeconomic Policies for Sustainable Growth written by John Asafu-Adjaye and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'These experienced economists use CGE modelling to analyse the consequences of significant contemporary economic and environmental policies in several Asia-Pacific countries and in Africa. This has not been done previously for several of the economies concerned. This path-breaking, economy-wide study assesses policies relating to agricultural development, trade and industrial development, energy, greenhouse gases and climate change. This readable book should appeal to a wide audience, including students, policymakers and researchers.' Clem Tisdell, University of Queensland, Australia The authors expertly reveal a model-based analysis of economic development and environmental issues with policy prescriptions for enhancing sustainable development. Within the last four decades, there has been a rapid deterioration in the quality of our environmental and natural resources, raising grave concerns about the sustainability of unbridled economic growth. In light of these concerns, the authors analyse a range of economic and environmental issues, and propose policy recommendations that would enhance sustainable economic growth. The book covers a variety of issues related to economic development, trade, energy and climate change, and focuses on countries in the Asia-Pacific region including Australia, Thailand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. Managing Macroeconomic Policies For Sustainable Growth uniquely discusses aspects of the CGE modelling approach that will prove informative for academic researchers and postgraduate students in the areas of economic development and environmental policy. This original book will also appeal to policy analysts and policymakers in public and private institutions.
Book Synopsis Resources Booms and Macroeconomic Adjustments in Developing Countries by : Mamta Banu Chowdhury
Download or read book Resources Booms and Macroeconomic Adjustments in Developing Countries written by Mamta Banu Chowdhury and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chowdhury addresses fundamental issues of policy management in resource-based developing countries, by providing an extension of the existing 'Dutch Disease' theory and its applications to the developing country context. The impact of resources booms is of paramount importance for the developing economies. To date the analytical and empirical investigations of these issues have not been available. Essentially, this study will fill this gap. The book investigates the macroeconomic impact of a resources boom and the long-term growth implications of related policy choices with reference to Papua New Guinea. Like many other primary commodity exporting developing economies, Papua New Guinea experienced several short-lived export booms over the past two and a half decades, providing a fascinating case study of potential gains from resources booms and the accompanying complex problems of policy management. This study also incorporates a comparative study of resources boom and policy management issues between Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Nigeria.
Book Synopsis The Political Economy of Policy Reform by : John Williamson
Download or read book The Political Economy of Policy Reform written by John Williamson and published by Peterson Institute. This book was released on 1994 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policymakers around the world have increasingly agreed that macroeconomic discipline, microeconomic liberalization, and outward orientation are prerequisites for economic success. But what are the political conditions that make economic transformation possible? At a conference held at the Institute for International Economics, leaders of economic reform recounted their efforts to bring about change and discussed the impact of the political climate on the success of their efforts. In this book, these leaders explore the political conditions conducive to the success of policy reforms. Did economic crisis strengthen the hands of the reformers? Was the rapidity with which reforms were instituted crucial? Did the reformers have a "honeymoon" period in which to transform the economy? The authors answer these and other questions, as well as providing first-hand accounts of the politically charged atmosphere surrounding reform efforts in their countries.

This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global economic activity is picking up with a long-awaited cyclical recovery in investment, manufacturing, and trade, according to Chapter 1 of this World Economic Outlook. World growth is expected to rise from 3.1 percent in 2016 to 3.5 percent in 2017 and 3.6 percent in 2018. Stronger activity, expectations of more robust global demand, reduced deflationary pressures, and optimistic financial markets are all upside developments. But structural impediments to a stronger recovery and a balance of risks that remains tilted to the downside, especially over the medium term, remain important challenges. Chapter 2 examines how changes in external conditions may affect the pace of income convergence between advanced and emerging market and developing economies. Chapter 3 looks at the declining share of income that goes to labor, including the root causes and how the trend affects inequality. Overall, this report stresses the need for credible strategies in advanced economies and in those whose markets are emerging and developing to tackle a number of common challenges in an integrated global economy.

Book Synopsis Reforming Trade Policy in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands by : Kym Anderson
Download or read book Reforming Trade Policy in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands written by Kym Anderson and published by University of Adelaide Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The countries of the South Pacific have struggled to generate sustainable economic growth since their independence. Interventionist policies have failed in the past here, as they have in all other regions. Business and government leaders in this region are now beginning to acknowledge - as has happened in many other developing country regions over the past two decades - that major reforms are needed to put their economies onto a higher growth path. This study examines the growth record of key Pacific island economies and identifies the reasons for their relatively poor performance. It then looks at the process of globalization that is affecting those and indeed all economies increasingly; and the role the WTO has played in that process.

Download or read book Macroeconomics and Development written by Mario Damill and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin American neo-structuralism is a cutting-edge, regionally focused economic theory with broad implications for macroeconomics and development economics. Roberto Frenkel has spent five decades developing the theory's core arguments and expanding their application throughout the discipline, revolutionizing our understanding of high inflation and hyperinflation, disinflation programs, and the behavior of foreign exchange markets as well as financial and currency crises in emerging economies. The essays in this collection assess Latin American neo-structuralism's theoretical contributions and viability as the world's economies evolve. The authors discuss Frenkel's work in relation to pricing decisions, inflation and stabilization policy, development and income distribution in Latin America, and macroeconomic policy for economic growth. An entire section focuses on finance and crisis, and the volume concludes with a neo-structuralist analysis of general aspects of economic development. For those seeking a comprehensive introduction to contemporary Latin American economic thought, this collection not only explicates the intricate work of one of its greatest practitioners but also demonstrates its impact on the growth of economics.

This book was released on 2017-12-29 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2017 Article IV Consultation highlights that Papua New Guinea’s economic activity has remained subdued in 2017. Slow growth, generous tax treatment of the Liquefied Natural Gas project, the drought and weak tax administration have all contributed to declining tax revenues and a substantial fiscal deficit and increasing debt-to-GDP ratio. Inflation was boosted to over 6 percent by drought effects, but is beginning to ease. Near-term risks to the outlook are tilted to the downside. Over the medium term, risks are more balanced owing to the upside potential of new resource sector projects and, possibly, a pickup in commodity export prices.
