Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 19th century, Paris underwent profound transformations above and below ground, from the city center to its outskirts. Georges Eugène Haussmann, Prefect of the Seine from 1853 to 1870, embodies this entire century of public works that continue to shape the city?s organization and identity. Paris Haussmann explores and analyzes the characteristics of this homogenous yet polymorphous cityscape, the result of a lengthy process of changes and evolutions, even in recent times. Research was conducted at all levels to classify and compare roadways, identify public spaces, and organize the blocks and buildings according to their current geometry. For the first time, the qualities of the Haussmann model have been set forth to show how they grapple with the challenges that contemporary cities face.0Rich illustrative material, photographs, various plans and maps, floor plans and sections, axonometric projections, diagrams and other graphics, and statistical analyzes complement topical essays. The book is published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Pavillon de l?Arsenal in Paris in spring 2017.00Exhibition: Pavillon de l'Arsenal, Paris, France (31.01. - 07.05.2017).

Book Synopsis Architectural Guide Norway by : Anna Martovitskaya
Download or read book Architectural Guide Norway written by Anna Martovitskaya and published by Dom Publishers. This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Architectural Guide Norway showcases 150 architectural objects realized in Norway in the period from 2000 to 2020. The geography of the buildings covers both the largest and most visited cities of the country - Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger - and objects of the so-called Norwegian Scenic Routes, one of the most important infrastructure project to promote the breathtaking nature and its architecture. Anna Martovitskaya's selection of projects demonstrates a wide range of artistic techniques, typologies and scales, but these are not only united by the country of origin, but also by their diversity. A much more important factor of unity is the approach of Norwegian architects to the challenges they face. No matter whether it is an everyday task (e.)g. a pedestrian bridge, a viewing platform or a pavilion), a large office complex or a large urban development project, the focus is always on people and their relationship to nature. While today many voices loudly promote the need to conserve resources, Norway consistently implements the principle of environmental protection, not only through the use of innovative technologies, but also by making the buildings themselves and the developed areas the epitome of human rationality and environmental friendliness.
Book Synopsis Translocal Ageing in the Global East by : Deljana Iossifova
Download or read book Translocal Ageing in the Global East written by Deljana Iossifova and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-21 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about ageing in Bulgaria. How do Bulgaria’s elderly—abandoned by the state and left behind by their adult children and grandchildren—adapt to their continuously shifting environment and a state of perpetual uncertainty? Drawing on dozens of interviews with older people in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia as well as a village in the Bulgarian Balkans, Iossifova unravels how the dramatic socio-political transitions of the past eighty years have influenced the lifecourse of older people today. She carefully traces their patterns of everyday life in order to draw out the mechanisms through which older people cope with their meagre pensions, sustain their ailing bodies and make do in their tattered homes. Iossifova argues that ‘ageing in place’ as a popular paradigm underpinning neoliberal policy agendas has no place in Bulgaria and the wider Global East, where translocal ageing is the norm.

Book Synopsis Under Under by : Jeppe Aagaard Andersen
Download or read book Under Under written by Jeppe Aagaard Andersen and published by Oro Editions. This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under Under is a publication that links the works and thoughts of practitioners, educators, and researchers in the fields of landscape architecture, architecture, urbanism, and the visual arts. This editorial experiment attempts to reveal images and ideas that have not necessarily had the chance to solidify as built projects or in academically rigorous media. The editors must first select work that they believe deserves some form of inquiry, and secondly, they must attempt to build new knowledge by pairing two different bodies of work or perspectives. For this inaugural edition, we chose to open Jeppe Aagaard Andersen's archive. Andersen's influence is not questioned, however, precisely because of his visibility as a practitioner, widely available media usually focuses on his built works. Hanne Bat Finke helps us read his work, also elaborating on his legacy for Danish landscape architecture. Hanne's own experimental production is presented together with Andersen's archival material.
