Book Synopsis Pain Management and the Opioid Epidemic by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Pain Management and the Opioid Epidemic written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-09-28 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drug overdose, driven largely by overdose related to the use of opioids, is now the leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States. The ongoing opioid crisis lies at the intersection of two public health challenges: reducing the burden of suffering from pain and containing the rising toll of the harms that can arise from the use of opioid medications. Chronic pain and opioid use disorder both represent complex human conditions affecting millions of Americans and causing untold disability and loss of function. In the context of the growing opioid problem, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an Opioids Action Plan in early 2016. As part of this plan, the FDA asked the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to convene a committee to update the state of the science on pain research, care, and education and to identify actions the FDA and others can take to respond to the opioid epidemic, with a particular focus on informing FDA's development of a formal method for incorporating individual and societal considerations into its risk-benefit framework for opioid approval and monitoring.

Book Synopsis Chakra Organized Acceptance and Commitment Therapy by : Rosemary Hale
Download or read book Chakra Organized Acceptance and Commitment Therapy written by Rosemary Hale and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-22 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book integrates the traditional chakra model, which provides a map-like tool for how psycho-emotional content interacts with the physical body, with current evidence-based psychological practice. As growing research highlights the impact of psychological trauma on physical health and the prevalence of medically unexplained symptoms, novel treatment approaches are required to address the unique complexities of these conditions. Drawing from humanistic psychology and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), this book presents a holistic model for treating psychosomatic disorders. Chapters focus on the basic principles of the chakra system, along with treatment orientation, values-based action, and more. This book is an essential introduction to working with the chakra system in the context of behavioral health interventions and is suitable for all healthcare professionals, in particular clinical psychologists, therapists, and counsellors.

Book Synopsis Advances in Molecular and Pharmacological Mechanisms of Novel Targeted Therapies for Melanoma by : Luana Mota Ferreira
Download or read book Advances in Molecular and Pharmacological Mechanisms of Novel Targeted Therapies for Melanoma written by Luana Mota Ferreira and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malignant melanoma is the most aggressive type of skin cancer with invasive growth patterns. Recent advances in melanoma management have focused on cell growth, proliferation, migration, and survival biomarkers. Numerous FDA-approved molecular-targeted therapies, such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), have been developed targeting genetic biomarkers that play a critical role in tumorigenesis when overexpressed. The use of targeted therapies as an alternative or adjuvant to immunotherapy has revolutionized the management of metastatic melanoma. Although this treatment strategy is more efficacious and less toxic than traditional therapies, targeted therapies are less effective after prolonged treatment due to acquired resistance given the mutations and activation of resistant mechanisms in melanoma tumors. In this sense, identifying novel target therapies and repositioned drugs that could modulate the disease progression, the potential molecular and pharmacological mechanisms of therapies are of utmost interest.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Neuroengineering by : Nitish V. Thakor
Download or read book Handbook of Neuroengineering written by Nitish V. Thakor and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-02 with total page 3686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook serves as an authoritative reference book in the field of Neuroengineering. Neuroengineering is a very exciting field that is rapidly getting established as core subject matter for research and education. The Neuroengineering field has also produced an impressive array of industry products and clinical applications. It also serves as a reference book for graduate students, research scholars and teachers. Selected sections or a compendium of chapters may be used as “reference book” for a one or two semester graduate course in Biomedical Engineering. Some academicians will construct a “textbook” out of selected sections or chapters. The Handbook is also meant as a state-of-the-art volume for researchers. Due to its comprehensive coverage, researchers in one field covered by a certain section of the Handbook would find other sections valuable sources of cross-reference for information and fertilization of interdisciplinary ideas. Industry researchers as well as clinicians using neurotechnologies will find the Handbook a single source for foundation and state-of-the-art applications in the field of Neuroengineering. Regulatory agencies, entrepreneurs, investors and legal experts can use the Handbook as a reference for their professional work as well.
