Download or read book Bismuth written by Ying Zhou and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bismuth (Bi) is a post-transition metal element with the atomic number of 83, which belongs to the pnictogen group elements in Period 6 in the elemental periodic table. As a heavy metal, the hazard of Bi is unusually low in contrast to its neighbors Pb and Sb. This property, along with other typical characteristics like strong diamagnetism and low thermal conductivity, makes Bi attractive in industrial applications. There are more than 100 commercial bismuth products, from pharmaceutical to industrial catalysts. Based on the wide applications of Bi materials, this book goes further and mainly focuses on the potential uses of Bi-based materials, which consist of nine chapters. In addition, a special chapter concerning the defect in bismuth is also presented.

Book Synopsis Operando Spectroscopic and Kinetic Study of the Selective Oxidation of Propylene to Acrolein Over Well-defined Supported Vanadium Oxide Catalysts by : Chunli Zhao
Download or read book Operando Spectroscopic and Kinetic Study of the Selective Oxidation of Propylene to Acrolein Over Well-defined Supported Vanadium Oxide Catalysts written by Chunli Zhao and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The selective oxidation of propylene to acrolein was found to exhibit the following reaction kinetics r = k[C3H6]1 [O2]1/2[*]02, in which [*]0 represents the total number of catalytic surface VO4 active sites/g of catalyst and k is an apparent rate constant that is a function of krds and Kads. The second order dependence on [*]0 suggests that two surface VO4 sites are involved in the rds of propylene oxidation. Although the reaction rate increases as [*]02 with surface vanadia coverage, the most pronounced effect on the reaction kinetics was observed by changing the specific oxide support (ZrO2 & sim; TiO2> Nb2O 5> Al2O3> SiO2). This almost 10 2 variation in Turnover Frequency (TOF) is related to the electron density on the bridging V-O-Support bond that is controlled by the electronegativity of the support cation. Consequently, the lower the support cation electronegativity, the greater the residual electron density on the bridging V-O-support bond for accelerating the redox kinetics.

Book Synopsis Computational Design of Organometallic Catalysts and Processes for Selective Oxidation Using Molecular Oxygen as Oxidant Without Co-reductant by : Bo Yang (Ph. D.)

D.) and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of greener technologies for the production of chemicals has attracted lots of recent attention. In the field of selective oxidation of organic compounds, direct oxidation in which molecular oxygen is utilized as oxidant without using any co-reductant is desired yet hard to achieve. In this study, Density Functional Theory (DTF) based computations were used to design and investigate several Zirconium (Zr), Hafnium (Hf) or Ruthenium (Ru) based organometallic catalysts that can be utilized for direct oxidations. Based on newly designed Zr and Hf catalysts, a new catalytic oxidation route was discovered. Formation of the [eta]3− ozone containing intermediates is the key feature. Four generic steps involved are: (1) O2 molecule adds to oxo group to generate [eta]2-ozone group, (2) [eta]2-ozone group rearranges to form [eta]3-ozone group, (3) [eta]3-ozone group donates O atom to substrate to form substrate oxide plus peroxo group, (4) peroxo group donates O atom to substrate to form substrate oxide and regenerate oxo group. As a commercially important example, the focus is drawn towards direct propene epoxidation. Existing commercial manufacturing processes for propylene oxide production consume large amount of energy and/or produce co/by-products. Direct propene epoxidation is a potentially greener process that could offer economic and environmental benefits. A two-step reaction process is introduced to overcome certain side reactions. Two separate reactions involved are: (1) molecular oxygen activation via reaction with an oxygen acceptor molecule to produce an oxygen transfer intermediate, and (2) substrate oxidation via reaction with the oxygen transfer intermediate to produce substrate oxide and regenerate the oxygen acceptor molecule. These reactions should take place over two different catalysts in two separate reactors. The overall reaction should achieve the direct oxidation reaction. For molecular O2 activation and propene expoxidation, computed enthalpic energetic spans of 33.3 and 31.6 kcal/mol are achieved respectively, and predicting decent catalytic performances from both catalysts. The stability of different catalyst forms, complete catalytic cycles and energy profiles for each catalyst and the computed net atomic charges and bond orders for some of the energetically important reaction cycles were studied to better understand the reaction chemistries.

Download or read book Pathway and Surface Mechanism Studies of 1,3-butadiene Selective Oxidation Over Vanadium-molybdenum-oxygen Catalysts written by William David Schroeder and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The catalytic effects of water addition were related to competitive adsorption with various V2O5-based surface sites, including the vanadyl V=O, corner sharing V-0-V and edge sharing V-0 oxygen. Higher levels of water addition were proposed to impose acidic character by dissociative adsorption. In addition, a novel combinatorial synthesis technique for VMoO was used to investigate the phase transitions Of V205, solid solutions of Mo in V205, V9Mo6040, and other reduced VMoO compounds, characterized by laser Raman spectroscopy. The natural composition gradient imposed by the sputter deposition apparatus was used to create VMoO arrays containing 225 samples ranging from 7.0 - 42 mol % Mo03/(V205 + Mo03), determined by EDS analysis.
