Book excerpt: To those of you just starting your debt-free journey, you probably feel dazed and overwhelmed considering the "big picture" of what you are about to tackle. I know that feeling and it's probably more debilitating than you might realize (believe me, there's a reason it took me nearly 2 years to get things together). My best advice for you is to focus on what you can control in the here and now, and don't get too caught up in the fear of the "what ifs." I lost a lot of time because I couldn't focus or wrap my mind around what I had to do. However, I encourage you to just get started. Start today, or at least this week. It's worth it! To those of you who have already started down the path to becoming debt free, but feel you've hit a roadblock - It's time to refocus. The sacrifice can be so hard some days that it becomes easy to question the value of your efforts. That's normal - but remind yourself that you're doing this for a reason and your decisions will no longer be based entirely on money. Hopefully the information and message inside this book is exactly what you've needed to keep going and, with any luck, to do so better than you were able to before. To everyone who reads this book - I hope that you're able to learn at least one thing that will make all the difference for you. Through my experiences of budgeting and getting out of debt, I hope that you're able to more quickly put into practice the principles that took me months and months to fully understand, but ones that have continued to propel me forward all the way to that final loan payment and beyond. What you're about to read in this book was real life and the lessons I learned through the sacrifice of eliminating debt. It is no secret that life never goes the way that way we plan and those who are truly successful at life are those who have mastered their ability to roll with the punches and pick themselves back up. This book is a compilation of my own opinions about life, money management, and the process of becoming debt free. In a nutshell, this is my story of how I survived dream crushing debt.

Book excerpt: The extraordinary story of how Georgia State University tore up the rulebook for educating lower-income students "Georgia State . . . has been reimagined—amid a moral awakening and a raft of data-driven experimentation—as one of the South's more innovative engines of social mobility." —The New York Times Won’t Lose This Dream is the inspiring story of a public university that has blazed an extraordinary trail for lower-income and first-generation students in downtown Atlanta, the birthplace of the civil rights movement. Over the past decade Georgia State University has upended the conventional wisdom that large numbers of students are doomed to fail simply because of their economic background or the color of their skin. Instead, it has harnessed the power of big data to identify and remove the obstacles that previously stopped them from graduating and completely transformed their prospects. A student from a mediocre high school working two jobs to make ends meet is now no less likely to succeed than a child of wealth and privilege—an earth-shaking achievement that is reverberating across every college campus in the country. With unique access to the key players and drawing on his skills as an investigative reporter, Andrew Gumbel delivers a thrilling, blow-by-blow account of a long battle to determine whether universities exist for their students or vice versa. The story is told through the visionary leaders who overcame fierce resistance to tear up the rules of their own institution and through the many remarkable students whose resilience and determination, often against daunting odds, inspired the work at every stage. Their success shows how the promise of social advancement through talent and hard work, the essence of the American dream, can be rekindled even in an age of deep inequalities and divisive politics.

Book excerpt: Americans as a whole view themselves as reasonably prudent and sober people when it comes to matters of money, reflecting the puritan roots of the earliest European settlers. Yet as a community, we also seem to believe that we are entitled to a lifestyle that is well-beyond our current income, a tendency that goes back to the earliest days of the United States and particularly to get rich quick experiences ranging from the Gold Rush of the 1840s to the real estate bubble of the early 21st Century. Inflated examines this apparent conflict and makes the argument that such a world view is so ingrained in us that to expect the United States to live in a "deflated" world is simply unrealistic. It skillfully seeks to tell the story of, money inflation and public debt as enduring (and perhaps endearing) features of American life, rather than something we can one day overcome as our policy makers constantly promise. Features interviews with today's top financial industry leaders and insiders. Offer a glimpse into the future of the Federal Reserve and the role it will play in the coming years Examines what the future may hold for the value of the U.S. dollar and the real incomes of future generations of Americans The gradual result of the situation we find ourselves in will inevitably lead to inflation, loss of economic opportunity, and a decline in the value of the dollar. This book will show you why, and reveal how we might be able to deal with it.

Book excerpt: "The Options Trap" is a profoundly moving and deeply personal exploration of one trader's harrowing journey through the perils of the options market. Written by acclaimed author Abhishek Parihar, writing under the pen name Abhay Sooryavanshi, this book is a testament to the power of resilience and the transformative potential that lies within us all. Inspired by the real-life struggles of a dear friend, Parihar's narrative weaves together two parallel tales of hardship and redemption that will captivate readers from the very first page. On one hand, he chronicles his friend's descent into the seductive trap of options trading, where unchecked greed and fear led to devastating losses that pushed him to the brink of ruin. On the other, Parihar shares his own intensely personal battle against the ravages of cancer, a colostomy, and three grueling operations - all while grappling with the heartbreak of being separated from his beloved wife and young daughter due to misunderstandings and the malicious actions of others. Through these intertwined narratives, Parihar paints a poignant portrait of the human experience, where financial turmoil and personal tragedy collide in a powerful and emotional journey. As the reader follows along, they will be drawn into the highs and lows faced by Parihar and his friend, experiencing the thrill of potential riches, the agony of crushing losses, and the sheer determination required to overcome even the most daunting of challenges. Yet, at the core of this gripping tale lies a message of hope, as Parihar and his friend find the strength within to confront their demons and emerge stronger than ever before. Parihar's extensive trading expertise, coupled with his unwavering commitment to helping others, shines through in his heartfelt and authentic storytelling. Readers will be captivated by the raw emotion and hard-won lessons that imbue every page, finding inspiration in the triumphs that arise from the depths of adversity. Whether you are a trader seeking to navigate the complexities of the options market or a reader drawn to tales of personal transformation, "The Options Trap" will leave an indelible mark on your heart and mind. Parihar's journey is not merely one of financial woes, but a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, a testament that will resonate with anyone who has faced their own battles against adversity. Through his powerful words, Parihar invites readers to embark on a journey of self-discovery, where the lessons learned in the options realm become a metaphor for the challenges we all face in our daily lives. "The Options Trap" is not just a book about trading - it is a celebration of the human spirit, a rallying cry for those who dare to confront their fears and emerge victorious. In a world that often values success above all else, Parihar's story reminds us that true triumph lies in the ability to overcome, to learn, and to grow, even in the face of the most daunting obstacles. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking inspiration, guidance, and a deeper understanding of the human experience in all its complexities.
