Book Synopsis Techniques in Mineral Exploration by : J.H. Reedman
Download or read book Techniques in Mineral Exploration written by J.H. Reedman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some years I have felt there was a need for a single, comprehen sive, reference book on exploration geology. Numerous textbooks are available on subjects such as geophysical prospecting, exploration geochemistry, mining geology, photogeology and general economic geology, but, for the geologist working in mineral exploration, who does not require a specialist's knowledge, a general book on explora tion techniques is needed. Many undergraduate university courses tend to neglect economic geology and few deal with the more prac tical aspects in any detail. Graduate geologists embarking on a career in economic geology or mineral exploration are therefore often poorly equipped and have to learn a considerable amount 'on the job'. By providing a book that includes material which can be found in some of the standard texts together with a number of practical aspects not to be found elsewhere, I hope that both recent graduates and more experienced exploration geologists will find it a useful reference work and manual. In addition, students of economic geology and personnel working in related fields in the mining and mineral extraction in dustries will find it informative. J. H. REEDMAN v Acknowledgements The author would like to thank Dr K. Fletcher, geochemist with the Department of Geology, University of British Columbia, and Kari Savario, geophysicist with Finnish Technical Aid to Zambia, for reading the original drafts and offering constructive criticism and advice on the chapters on geochemical and geophysical prospecting respectively.
Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Geophysics by : William Lowrie
Download or read book Fundamentals of Geophysics written by William Lowrie and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-09-20 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Fundamentals of Geophysics has been completely revised and updated, and is the ideal geophysics textbook for undergraduate students of geoscience with an introductory level of knowledge in physics and mathematics. It gives a comprehensive treatment of the fundamental principles of each major branch of geophysics, and presents geophysics within the wider context of plate tectonics, geodynamics and planetary science. Basic principles are explained with the aid of numerous figures and step-by-step mathematical treatments, and important geophysical results are illustrated with examples from the scientific literature. Text-boxes are used for auxiliary explanations and to handle topics of interest for more advanced students. This new edition also includes review questions at the end of each chapter to help assess the reader's understanding of the topics covered and quantitative exercises for more thorough evaluation. Solutions to the exercises and electronic copies of the figures are available at www.cambridge.org/9780521859028.

Book Synopsis Geo-Electromagnetism by : James Wait
Download or read book Geo-Electromagnetism written by James Wait and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1982-07-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geo-Electromagnetism surveys the theoretical concepts and applications of electrical prospecting methods. This book is divided into seven chapters that specifically tackle the basic electromagnetic concepts and the special mathematical functions. This text deals first with the numerical and analytical approaches to delineate earth resistivity principles, followed by a description of the three-layer model. These topics are followed by a discussion on the theory of induced electrical polarization. The subsequent chapters are devoted to relevant electromagnetic theory of low-frequency current flow in conducting with varying fields. The discussion then shifts to the geophysical problems associated with vertical electric dipole sources, with an emphasis on the quasi-static range in which all significant distances are small compared with the free-space wavelength. The last chapters outline the relevant analytical development of the magnetotelluric theory and the theoretical principles of the transient electromagnetic methods used in geophysical exploration. Geophysicists, theoreticians, and undergraduate level students will find this book invaluable.

Book Synopsis Basic Geophysics by : Enders A. Robinson
Download or read book Basic Geophysics written by Enders A. Robinson and published by SEG Books. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a thorough comprehension of the field of geophysics, we need to understand its origins. Basic Geophysics by Enders Robinson and Dean Clark takes us on a journey that demonstrates how the achievements of our predecessors have paved the way for our modern science. From the ancient Greeks through the Enlightenment to the greats of the contemporary age, the reasoning behind basic principles is explored and clarified. With that foundation, several advanced topics are examined, including: the 3D wave equation; ray tracing and seismic modeling; reflection, refraction, and diffraction; and WKBJ migration. The successful integration of the historical narrative alongside practical analysis of relevant principles makes this book an excellent resource for both novices and professionals, and all readers will gain insight and appreciation for the seismic theory that underlies modern exploration seismology.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Geophysical Exploration by : Philip Kearey
Download or read book An Introduction to Geophysical Exploration written by Philip Kearey and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of the well-established Kearey and Brooks text is fully updated to reflect the important developments in geophysical methods since the production of the previous edition. The broad scope of previous editions is maintained, with even greater clarity of explanations from the revised text and extensively revised figures. Each of the major geophysical methods is treated systematically developing the theory behind the method and detailing the instrumentation, field data acquisition techniques, data processing and interpretation methods. The practical application of each method to such diverse exploration applications as petroleum, groundwater, engineering, environmental and forensic is shown by case histories. The mathematics required in order to understand the text is purposely kept to a minimum, so the book is suitable for courses taken in geophysics by all undergraduate students. It will also be of use to postgraduate students who might wish to include geophysics in their studies and to all professional geologists who wish to discover the breadth of the subject in connection with their own work.
