Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines of Economic Theory This book was not originally projected as a text-book, nor is it now directed primarily to teachers. In attempting, however, to make it serviceable in his own work in the class-room, the writer has found it advisable to adopt the plan of suggestive questions as introductory to the various topics, and to follow the discussions with a wide selection of questions, serving in part as a review of the text and in part to indicate the bearing of the theoretical discussions upon subjects of current and practical interest. In so far as this method is well adapted to pedagogical needs, it can hardly fail to prove helpful to the independent reader. It has therefore seemed desirable to retain the text-book manner of presentation. For such teachers as shall make use of the book for class-room purposes, it is advised that the student be required to bring to the recitation-room written answers to both the suggestive and the review questions. Answers to the introductory questions should be attempted before the text is appointed for study. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines of Economics This book, which has been revised, expanded, and to a considerable extent rewritten since its first publication in tentative form a year ago, is the outgrowth of a three years' experiment in elementary economic instruction. The problem with which this experiment has had to do is sufficiently familiar to teachers of introductory economics: the problem of imparting the essentials of economic theory to college students who, at the same time that they condemn such generalizations as remote and unpractical, betray in many ways how limited is their own understanding of practical, commonplace, economic facts. Fortunately, it is possible not only to link economic theory with descriptive material, but in a measure to build the theory up out of the familiar events of economic life. This procedure the authors have attempted to embody in a series of problems designed to guide the student in his reading and to give definiteness and direction to classroom discussion. The method of the book has been called inductive; but it is inductive in only a very limited sense. Questions and answers could hardly enable beginners in the subject to arrive independently at the conclusions which economic scholars have accepted. The instructor must still hold the discussion to a true course. Yet questions can and, as experience shows, do serve to arouse interest, to point the way in which a sound conclusion lies, and to give a basis for discriminating and independent judgment respecting the adequacy of the conclusion which, under guidance, is reached. A student is well on his way to understand the fundamentals of economics so soon as he learns to reflect intelligently upon what is happening every day in the world of affairs about him. It is not intended that the Outlines shall take the place of a text-book. Rather they have been designed to parallel some text, with its systematic presentation of economic theory, and they may well be further supplemented by readings of a descriptive character. A "case-book" of illustrative material is already in preparation for use with the Outlines. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: This book provides the theoretical and analytical background critical to understand the process of economic development and growth at the beginning of the 21st century. This book adopts an interdisciplinary approach, using concepts borrowed from related disciplines such as politics, anthropology, psychology, business, and more. The core theme of this book is the argument that different theoretical approaches constitute excellent creative contributions, the study of which is necessary for a complete understanding of development and growth. Thus, this book stands out for its theoretical pluralistic character. The first part of the book provides an introduction to essential methodology terms for the theory of economic development and growth, while the second part outlines important concepts of economic behavior. Part three focuses on the sources of economic growth and their evolution throughout history, and pays special attention to the main theories related to economic growth as well as to the growth and development implications of Covid-19. The book ends with an analysis of international financial architecture and the consolidated financial transaction framework.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lecture Notes in Microeconomic Theory is the first publication of Ariel Rubinstein's lecture notes from the first part of his well-known course in microeconomic theory, which he has taught for fifteen years to first-year graduate students at Tel Aviv, Princeton, and New York universities. The book will be an invaluable supplement to primary textbooks in microeconomic theory. Conveying the style and method of Rubinstein's lectures, it will benefit teachers and research economists as well as students. The book focuses on and provides a critical assessment of models of rational economic agents, and it contains a large number of original problems. Rubinstein, one of the world's most-respected economics theorists, has made substantial contributions to several fields in economics, particularly game theory. His work is characterized by an unusual combination of deep originality and surprising simplicity. He is probably best known for his contributions to the bargaining problem and, more recently, to bounded rationality.
