Download or read book Out of Water written by Colin Chartres and published by FT Press. This book was released on 2010-07-14 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From cities to biofuels, competition for water is accelerating. Climate change threatens to intensify the onset and severity of the water crisis in several regions of the developing world: this is already happening throughout much of Asia, the Mediterranean, southwestern Australia, and the southwestern US. Along with water shortages, unsafe water becomes an increasingly widespread problem, too. As water crises trigger food and health crises, billions may slip further into poverty, leading to greater social and political unrest, new wars, and worsening national security. Out of Water doesn't just illuminate the coming global water crisis: it presents innovative solutions in agriculture, engineering, governance, and beyond, including state-of-the art techniques for integrated water management. This book will help raise the level of debate about water to the highest levels of government, and identify workable reforms and incentives to help water users utilize this crucial resource far more efficiently.

Download or read book Fish Out of Water written by Eric Metaxas and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Happens When One of America’s Most Admired Biographers Writes His Own Biography? For Eric Metaxas, the answer is Fish Out of Water: A Search for the Meaning of Life—a poetic and sometimes hilarious memoir of his early years, in which the Queens-born son of Greek and German immigrants struggles to make sense of a world in which he never quite seems to fit. Renowned for his biographies of William Wilberforce, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Martin Luther, Metaxas is the author of five New York Times bestsellers, the witty host of the acclaimed Socrates in the City conversation series, and a nationally syndicated radio personality. But here he reveals a personal story few have heard, taking us from his mostly happy childhood—and riotous triumphs at Yale—to the nightmare of drifting toward a dark abyss of meaninglessness from which he barely escapes. Along the way he introduces us to an unforgettable troupe of picaresque characters who join this quintessentially first-generation American boy in what is both bildungsroman and odyssey—and which underscores just how funny, serious, happy, sad, and ultimately meaningful life can be.

Download or read book Walk Out on the Water written by Caitlyn de Beer and published by Chsn Investments Pty Limited. This book was released on 2020-12 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For as long as I can remember I have found solace in the ocean, in breathing in the salty air, hearing the roar of washes crashes, watching as the sets roll in and feeling the sand between my toes. It was during one of my toughest seasons of my life, when facing a physical condition that had me feeling hopeless, that God reminded me that He is living water, He calms seas. He empowers us to walk out on the water, and He leads us beside quiet streams. A close friend challenged me amidst a physical hardship I was living with, to return to a place where I hear God's voice the clearest, and so we spent a weekend at our beach house for to recoup and reconnect to God. I was hopeless, depressed, in physical pain and living under grey skies, but that's often where God meets us. His grace is found exactly where we are. God began to speak to me about suffering. He reminded me that my faith does not exclude me from suffering but that my hope is eternal. He spoke to me of Him being living water and that nothing on earth would ever fill me like He can. I knew this deep down but I suppose life had caused me to forget. And then He laid on heart the desire to write this devotional; a letter of love about our King. He is enough for you. For me. His grace is that good, His love that deep. Nothing can separate us from the love, which is found in Jesus. He is the happiness and the peace that our souls thirst for. May this devotional be a source of hope and encouragement to you on your faith journey, as you read through the various themed chapters. Through the colloquial devotions on each dated page, may you be encouraged to draw closer to Jesus, and to welcome Him into your life, your mess and your future.
