Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The replacement of hydrogen with fluorine in organic molecules canprofoundly influence their chemical and physical properties, leading to a range of compounds with highly desirable properties. These molecules are of interest across the wide spectrum ofindustrial and academic organic chemistry, so that organofluorinechemistry is economically highly important. Organofluorine Chemistry will help chemists to develop a systematicknowledge of the chemistry of fluorine with a view towards itsapplication in the design of new reactions and syntheses, and thecreation of novel fluorinated molecules and materials. With initialchapters focusing on why fluorine creates such unique properties inorganic compounds, the book then covers general reactions offluorine. Coverage is chosen from the recent research literature, concentrating on the development of novel bioactive compounds andcatalytic ligands, and explaining, in the context of the initialchapters, how and why fluorine is so effective. With a finalchapter covering the general synthetic chemistry of organofluorinecompounds, the book is a cohesive summary of the fundamentalprincipals of organofluorine chemistry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past fifteen years commercial interest in compounds containing carbon fluorine bonds has burgeoned beyond all expectations, mainly owing to business opportunities arising from work on biologically active fluoroorganics-particularly agrochemicals, the relentless search for new markets for fluoropolymers and fluoro carbon fluids, developments in the field of medical diagnostics, and the drive to find replacements for ozone-depleting CFCs and Halon fire-extinguishing agents. Judging the situation to warrant the publication of a comprehensive collection of up-to-date reviews dealing with commercial organofluorine compounds within a single volume of manageable size (and hence reasonable cost), we were delighted to be invited by Plenum Publishing Corporation to produce a suitable book. In order to provide an authentic and wide-ranging account of current commercial applications of fluoroorganic materials, it clearly was necessary to assemble a sizeable team of knowledgeable contributing authors selected almost entirely from industry. Through their efforts we have been able to produce an almost complete coverage of the modem organofluorochemicals business in a manner designed to attract a reader ship ranging from experts in the field, through chemists and technologists currently unaware of the extent of industrial involvement with fluoroorganics, to students of applied chemistry. Promised chapters dedicated to perfluoroolefin oxides and 18F labeling of radiopharmaceuticals failed to materialize. This is somewhat unfortunate in view of our aim to achieve comprehensive coverage of the subject.

Download or read book Organofluorine Chemistry written by Richard D. Chambers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-10-03 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluorine is unique in that it is possible to replace hydrogen by fluorine either singly or multiply,in an organic molecule and,in so-doing create a potentially infinite extension to organic chemistry that is entirely synthetic. The excitement of the chemistry of these systems stems from the unique reactions that ensue and the “special-effects”that introduction of fluorine impart. Indeed, these effects are now exploited in a remarkable array of applications across the whole of the chemical, pharmaceutical, and plant-protection industries, although this is not widely appreciated. In this book, we have gathered authors with immense experience in various aspects of their field and each is a world-authority on the important topics they have described. Some topics, like the use of elemental fluorine, and enzymes in synthesis, are relatively new areas that are rapidly growing. Book Synopsis Fluorine Chemistry at the Millennium by : R.E. Banks
Download or read book Fluorine Chemistry at the Millennium written by R.E. Banks and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-12-04 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together contributions by leading researchers covering a wide scope so characteristic of fluorine chemistry. It is a monograph of historical character comprising personalized accounts of progress and events in areas of particular interest. There is also much to interest and instruct chemists from other disciplines as a good proportion of the chapters contain a considerable amount of 'hard' referenced information relating to modern organic, organoelemental and inorganic chemistry. Historians of chemistry and technology will no doubt be tempted to dip into this book, and surely whoever addresses the task of commemorating Moissan's achievement at the 150-years stage will bless us all in some measure for its existence.
