Download or read book Self-Determination Theory written by Richard Ryan and published by Guilford Publications. This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Among the most influential models in contemporary behavioral science, self-determination theory (SDT) offers a broad framework for understanding the factors that promote human motivation and psychological flourishing. In this authoritative work, SDT cofounders Richard M. Ryan and Edward L. Deci systematically review the theory's conceptual underpinnings, empirical evidence base, and practical applications across the lifespan. Ryan and Deci demonstrate that supporting people's basic needs for competence, relatedness, and autonomy is critically important for virtually all aspects of individual and societal functioning."--Jacket.
Book Synopsis Organism Theory by : James Paul Bilous
Download or read book Organism Theory written by James Paul Bilous and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-08 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organism Theory by James Paul Bilous Humanity’s wondered since WWII how Hitler was able to do what he did. In the pages of Organism Theory you will learn exactly what he, and others such as Mussolini, learned and kept quiet as long as 107 years ago. The problem, is that now you and all of humanity will know how to apply what they knew, for good or for bad. Humans can’t afford to not know this information any longer because it is constantly aimed at preserving class interests. This book will teach you many things about human behavior and maybe even about life that you likely didn’t know this way. Humans are organisms that actively absorb and reflect their unique, immediate environment. Humans are not independently intelligent; we only possess the potential for intellectualness. Absorbing and reflecting every nuance in our environment. Exactly like Hitler’s, now innocent, youth.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Theories of Human Development by : Neil J Salkind
Download or read book An Introduction to Theories of Human Development written by Neil J Salkind and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2004-01-22 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief, accessible core text provides a comprehensive view of the major developmental perspectives in a way that should appeal especially to students going on to applied careers in the social and behavioral sciences, education, and the human services and other helping professions. Neither overly detailed nor unnecessarily technical, it is intended as a basic introduction. At the same time, the author does not "talk down" or condescend to the reader. He emphasizes the applied nature of these developmental theories, not only in the text material but also with features such as boxed highlights. The book is organized into five major parts, beginning with an introduction to the primary concepts and important ideas about human development and research and then grouping various theories into four major theoretical perspectives--maturational and biological, psychodynamic, behavioral, and cognitive developmental--before concluding with an integrative chapter that compares the various theories covered.
Book Synopsis Perturbing the Organism by : Herbert Weiner
Download or read book Perturbing the Organism written by Herbert Weiner and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1992-06 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overlooked in the early accounts was that all organisms face many additional types of natural challenges and obstacles in their efforts to survive and reproduce: for example, they must fight or escape predators, replenish diminished food supplies, and anticipate, seasonal changes of climate. Weiner's survey of the literature shows that much progress has been made in understanding the effects of exposing animals to these kinds of naturally occurring stressful experiences and their varied outcomes. Under such conditions there appear patterns of integrated behavioral and physiological responses that are exquisitely attuned to the experience. He carefully assesses the research on the ways in which neural circuits and peptidergic mechanisms in the brain generate and integrate these patterns. In addition, he presents new concepts about the perturbation of subsystems, including biological clocks, which may, or may not, lead to disease or ill-health.

Book Synopsis The Theory of Evolution by : Samuel M. Scheiner
Download or read book The Theory of Evolution written by Samuel M. Scheiner and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Darwin’s nineteenth-century writings laid the foundations for modern studies of evolution, and theoretical developments in the mid-twentieth century fostered the Modern Synthesis. Since that time, a great deal of new biological knowledge has been generated, including details of the genetic code, lateral gene transfer, and developmental constraints. Our improved understanding of these and many other phenomena have been working their way into evolutionary theory, changing it and improving its correspondence with evolution in nature. And while the study of evolution is thriving both as a basic science to understand the world and in its applications in agriculture, medicine, and public health, the broad scope of evolution—operating across genes, whole organisms, clades, and ecosystems—presents a significant challenge for researchers seeking to integrate abundant new data and content into a general theory of evolution. This book gives us that framework and synthesis for the twenty-first century. The Theory of Evolution presents a series of chapters by experts seeking this integration by addressing the current state of affairs across numerous fields within evolutionary biology, ranging from biogeography to multilevel selection, speciation, and macroevolutionary theory. By presenting current syntheses of evolution’s theoretical foundations and their growth in light of new datasets and analyses, this collection will enhance future research and understanding.
