Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The multiverse (or meta-universe) is the hypothetical set of multiple possible universes (including the historical universe we consistently experience) that together comprise everything that exists and can exist: the entirety of space, time, matter, and energy as well as the physical laws and constants that describe them. The term was coined in 1895 by the American philosopher and psychologist William James. The various universes within the multiverse are sometimes called parallel universes. The structure of the multiverse, the nature of each universe within it and the relationship between the various constituent universes, depend on the specific multiverse hypothesis considered. Multiple universes have been hypothesized in cosmology, physics, astronomy, religion, philosophy, transpersonal psychology and fiction, particularly in science fiction and fantasy."--Wikipedia, Dec.18, 2012.

Book Synopsis Philoponus: Against Proclus on the Eternity of the World 12-18 by : Philoponus,
Download or read book Philoponus: Against Proclus on the Eternity of the World 12-18 written by Philoponus, and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2014-04-22 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In chapters 12-18 of Against Proclus, Philoponus continues to do battle against Proclus' arguments for the beginninglessness and everlastingness of the ordered universe. In this final section there are three notable issues under discussion. The first concerns the composition of the heavens and its manner of movement. Philoponus argues against the Aristotelian thesis that there is a fifth heavenly body that has a natural circular motion. He concludes that even though the celestial region is composed of fire and the other three elements, it can move in a circle by the agency of its soul, and that this circular motion is not compromised in any way by the innate natural motion of the fire.Chapter 16 contains an extended discussion of the will of God and His relation to particulars. Here Philoponus addresses issues that become central to medieval philosophical and theological discussions, including the unity, timelessness and indivisibility of God's will. Finally, throughout these seven chapters Philoponus is engaged in a detailed exegesis of Plato's Timaeus which aims to settle a number of familiar interpretive problems, notably how we should understand the pre-cosmic state of disorderly motion, and the statement that the visible cosmos is an image of the paradigm. Philoponus' exegetical concerns culminate in chapter 18 with an extensive discussion of Plato's attitude to poetry and myth.
Book Synopsis From Eternity to Here by : Sean Carroll
Download or read book From Eternity to Here written by Sean Carroll and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2010-01-07 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rising star in theoretical physics offers his awesome vision of our universe and beyond, all beginning with a simple question: Why does time move forward? Time moves forward, not backward—everyone knows you can’t unscramble an egg. In the hands of one of today’s hottest young physicists, that simple fact of breakfast becomes a doorway to understanding the Big Bang, the universe, and other universes, too. In From Eternity to Here, Sean Carroll argues that the arrow of time, pointing resolutely from the past to the future, owes its existence to conditions before the Big Bang itself—a period modern cosmology of which Einstein never dreamed. Increasingly, though, physicists are going out into realms that make the theory of relativity seem like child’s play. Carroll’s scenario is not only elegant, it’s laid out in the same easy-to- understand language that has made his group blog, Cosmic Variance, the most popular physics blog on the Net. From Eternity to Here uses ideas at the cutting edge of theoretical physics to explore how properties of spacetime before the Big Bang can explain the flow of time we experience in our everyday lives. Carroll suggests that we live in a baby universe, part of a large family of universes in which many of our siblings experience an arrow of time running in the opposite direction. It’s an ambitious, fascinating picture of the universe on an ultra-large scale, one that will captivate fans of popular physics blockbusters like Elegant Universe and A Brief History of Time. Book Synopsis Eternity Delayed by : Walter L. Campbell
Download or read book Eternity Delayed written by Walter L. Campbell and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seth is a guardian angel. Join him as he tells about some of the people he has watched over from the Tower of Babel to the present day, people he called The Passionates. Johnson was born a slave and died a slave. During his whole lifetime, the one driving passion he had was to live free in Africa as did his father before he was captured and sold into slavery. Katie was born in a time when life was hard for women and even harder when one had no mother to help her learn how to survive as a woman. All she wanted throughout her life was to sit with her mom and talk woman to woman. Robert believed he was born out of time and wanted nothing more than to help fight for the freedom of the homeland of his ancestors alongside Robert the Bruce and William Wallace to free Scotland. Inu was born into a world where everyone was together after the flood. When the nations were scattered after the Babel incident, he vowed to spend the rest of his life seeking out his lost friends and family and did so until the end. It has been rightly said that all men die but not all men truly live. As you follow the lives of the people in this book who only lived in the imagination of one person, it is my hope that you will not only find a true passion, but that passion will change your humdrum existence into a life well lived. Allow your imagination to be free and follow Seth as he recounts the stories of lives well lived. Remember do not make any theological conclusions from this or any other work of fiction. This is not intended to be a children's book but is written so a child can follow along. C.S. Lewis said that if a children's story is not worth reading as an adult it is probably not fit for children either.

Book Synopsis Change, the Arrow of Time, and Divine Eternity in Light of Relativity Theory by : Daniel Saudek
Download or read book Change, the Arrow of Time, and Divine Eternity in Light of Relativity Theory written by Daniel Saudek and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-19 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has two aims; first, to provide a new account of time's arrow in light of relativity theory; second, to explain how God, being eternal, relates to our world, marked as it is by change and time. In part one, Saudek argues that time is not the expansive universal 'wave' that is appears to be, but nor are we living in an unchanging block. Rather, time is real but local: there are infinitely many arrows of time in the universe, each with their own fixed past and open future. This model is based on the ontology of substances which can exist in different states, marked by different properties. On this basis, a derivation of temporal precedence and of the asymmetry between the fixed past and the open future is provided. Time's arrow is thus 'attached' to substances, and is therefore a local rather than global phenomenon, though by no means an illusory or merely subjective one. In part two, this model is then applied to the perennial questions concerning the relationship between divine eternity and the temporal world: How can my future choices be free if God already knows what I will do? Can God act if He is not in time? Through the lens of relativity theory, such questions are shown to appear in a completely new light. The book combines insights from theoretical physics with ancient and contemporary philosophy into a unique synthesis, broaching a wealth of key issues including the arrow of time, the evolution of the cosmos, and a physics-based defence of eternalism in philosophical theology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the timelessness of God, providing a detailed analysis of the nature of time and eternity. Padgett offers a biblical and historical survey of the doctrine of eternity, rejecting both theories of eternity being both 'timeless' and 'everlasting'. Padgett argues that traditionally the doctrine of absolute divine timelessness is not compatible with God's actions in the world. "God is in some sense temporal, yet He is the ground of time, the Lord of time and is 'relatively' timeless.

Book Synopsis Eternity and Time's Flow by : Robert Cummings Neville
Download or read book Eternity and Time's Flow written by Robert Cummings Neville and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1993-07-01 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neville returns eternity to the center of consideration by analyzing the obsessive culture that attempts to get along denying it; and he analyzes the nature of time's flow itself, the nature of divine eternity, and the subtle problems of personal immortality. He argues that time and eternity constitute one topic and that, therefore, time itself is beyond understanding, beyond personal grasp, and beyond civilized orientation without a proper comprehension of eternity.
