The 37 full papers presented together with one invited paper have been carefully reviewed and selected from 75 submissions. LION deals with designing and engineering ways of "learning" about the performance of different techniques, and ways of using past experience about the algorithm behavior to improve performance in the future. Intelligent learning schemes for mining the knowledge obtained online or offline can improve the algorithm design process and simplify the applications of high-performance optimization methods. Combinations of different algorithms can further improve the robustness and performance of the individual components. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, LION 14 was not held as a physical meeting.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Methods for Nonlinear Optimization by : Luigi Grippo
Download or read book Introduction to Methods for Nonlinear Optimization written by Luigi Grippo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-27 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has two main objectives: • to provide a concise introduction to nonlinear optimization methods, which can be used as a textbook at a graduate or upper undergraduate level; • to collect and organize selected important topics on optimization algorithms, not easily found in textbooks, which can provide material for advanced courses or can serve as a reference text for self-study and research. The basic material on unconstrained and constrained optimization is organized into two blocks of chapters: • basic theory and optimality conditions • unconstrained and constrained algorithms. These topics are treated in short chapters that contain the most important results in theory and algorithms, in a way that, in the authors’ experience, is suitable for introductory courses. A third block of chapters addresses methods that are of increasing interest for solving difficult optimization problems. Difficulty can be typically due to the high nonlinearity of the objective function, ill-conditioning of the Hessian matrix, lack of information on first-order derivatives, the need to solve large-scale problems. In the book various key subjects are addressed, including: exact penalty functions and exact augmented Lagrangian functions, non monotone methods, decomposition algorithms, derivative free methods for nonlinear equations and optimization problems. The appendices at the end of the book offer a review of the essential mathematical background, including an introduction to convex analysis that can make part of an introductory course.

Book Synopsis Codes for Boundary-Value Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations by : B. Childs
Download or read book Codes for Boundary-Value Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations written by B. Childs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1979-10 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptually, a database consists of objects and relationships. Object Relationship Notation (ORN) is a simple notation that more precisely defines relationships by combining UML multiplicities with uniquely defined referential actions. Object Relationship Notation (ORN) for Database Applications: Enhancing the Modeling and Implementation of Associations shows how ORN can be used in UML class diagrams & database definition languages (DDLs) to better model & implement relationships & thus more productively develop database applications. For the database developer, it presents many examples of relationships modeled using ORN-extended class diagrams & shows how these relationships are easily mapped to an ORN-extended SQL or Object DDL. For the DBMS developer, it presents the specifications & algorithms needed to implement ORN in a relational and object DBMS. This book also describes tools that can be downloaded or accessed via the Web. These tools allow databases to be modeled using ORN and implemented using automatic code generation that adds ORN support to Microsoft SQL Server and Progress Object Store.
