Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design Optimization of Fluid Machinery: Applying Computational Fluid Dynamics and Numerical Optimization Drawing on extensive research and experience, this timely reference brings together numerical optimization methods for fluid machinery and its key industrial applications. It logically lays out the context required to understand computational fluid dynamics by introducing the basics of fluid mechanics, fluid machines and their components. Readers are then introduced to single and multi-objective optimization methods, automated optimization, surrogate models, and evolutionary algorithms. Finally, design approaches and applications in the areas of pumps, turbines, compressors, and other fluid machinery systems are clearly explained, with special emphasis on renewable energy systems. Written by an international team of leading experts in the field Brings together optimization methods using computational fluid dynamics for fluid machinery in one handy reference Features industrially important applications, with key sections on renewable energy systems Design Optimization of Fluid Machinery is an essential guide for graduate students, researchers, engineers working in fluid machinery and its optimization methods. It is a comprehensive reference text for advanced students in mechanical engineering and related fields of fluid dynamics and aerospace engineering.
Book Synopsis Optimization of Compressor Vane and Bleed Settings by : Joseph E. Garberoglio
Download or read book Optimization of Compressor Vane and Bleed Settings written by Joseph E. Garberoglio and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report evaluates optimization methods for their effectiveness in relating multistage axial compressor test data to the decision to vary a selected vane or bleed to reach a predetermined performance goal. Compressor simulations were used in a comparative evaluation and each method was judged on the basis of the number of tests required to achieve an optimum performance goal. The influence of measurement errors and finite vane travel were also prime considerations. Based on this evaluation, the COPES/CONMIN approximate optimization technique was chosen most suitable. Book Synopsis The Influence of Compressor Inlet Guide Vane by : IOWA STATE UNIV AMES ENGINEERING RESEARCH INST.
Download or read book The Influence of Compressor Inlet Guide Vane written by IOWA STATE UNIV AMES ENGINEERING RESEARCH INST. and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A periodically sampling hot-wire measurement system was used to obtain numerous periodic-average (Electronically and arithmetically averaged values of periodically sampled data) three-dimensional velocity vector data for flow through the first stage (inlet guide vane, rotor, and stator rows) of a low-speed, multistage, axial-flow research compressor. New data are presented for the maximum noise circumferential position of the first stator blade row. Comparisons are made between these data and similar data previously acquired and reported for the minimum noise configuration of the compressor. The inlet guide vane (IGV) wake avenue was found to interest first stator row blades at two span locations, one near the hub and the other near the tip, for maximum noise and at only one span location, near mid-span, for minimum noise. This difference in IGV wake / stator leading edge intersection patterns resulted in variations of the first stator exit flow deviation angle near the hub and tip portions of the compressor annulus. These variations were explained in terms of the larger fluctuations of stator inlet flow associated with the inlet guide vane wake avenues.
