Book Synopsis Signal Processing in Telecommunications by : Ezio Biglieri
Download or read book Signal Processing in Telecommunications written by Ezio Biglieri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is probably an overstatement to say that the discipline of telecommunication systems is becoming an application of digital signal processing (DSP). However, there is no doubt that by the mid-I980s integrated circuit technology has advanced to such an extent that revolutionary advances in telecommunications are fostered by the introduction of new and poweiful DSP algorithms. Actually, DSP has been recently playing a major role in the development of telecommuni cations systems: to name just one of the most widespread applications where this interaction has been most effective, we may mention the use of intelligent DSP to improve the peiformance of transmission systems by allowing sophisticated algorithm to be implemented in radio transmitters and receivers for personal communications. Other areas have equally benefited by the latest advances of DSP: speech coding and synthesis, speech recognition and enhancement, radar, sonar, digital audio, and remote sensing, just to cite afew. With this in mind, when choosing the topic for the 7th Tyrrhenian Workshop on Digital Communications, whose contributions are collected in this book, we aimed at focusing on the state of the art and the perspectives of the interaction between DSP and telecommunications, two disciplines that are becoming increasingly intertwined. Although by no means exhaustive of all the applications of DSP to telecommu nications, we believe that the material presented in this book pinpoints the most interesting among them, and hence it will be considered as a useful tool for investigating this complex and highly challenging field.

Book Synopsis Speech Coding and Synthesis by : W. Bastiaan Kleijn
Download or read book Speech Coding and Synthesis written by W. Bastiaan Kleijn and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1995 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. The fields of speech coding and synthesis have developed rapidly over the last decade. Text-to-text speech systems now produce reasonable quality speech, and currently available speech coders can transmit good quality speech at below 10kb/s. This, in combination with the ever-increasing speed of microprocessors and signal processing hardware, has resulted in a large number of practical applications. These applications in turn have stimulated research, and the number of papers published on speech coding and synthesis have proliferated rapidly. Reflecting periodically on such developments have inspired the publication of this book. Topics such as the effect of cross channel errors on coded speech and the determination of a proper pitch contour for synthesized speech are included. Both readers unfamiliar with the fields of speech coding and speech synthesis as well as those already working within the areas, will find the book of interest.

Book Synopsis Distributed Multiple Description Coding by : Huihui Bai
Download or read book Distributed Multiple Description Coding written by Huihui Bai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-19 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines distributed video coding (DVC) and multiple description coding (MDC), two novel techniques designed to address the problems of conventional image and video compression coding. Covering all fundamental concepts and core technologies, the chapters can also be read as independent and self-sufficient, describing each methodology in sufficient detail to enable readers to repeat the corresponding experiments easily. Topics and features: provides a broad overview of DVC and MDC, from the basic principles to the latest research; covers sub-sampling based MDC, quantization based MDC, transform based MDC, and FEC based MDC; discusses Sleplian-Wolf coding based on Turbo and LDPC respectively, and comparing relative performance; includes original algorithms of MDC and DVC; presents the basic frameworks and experimental results, to help readers improve the efficiency of MDC and DVC; introduces the classical DVC system for mobile communications, providing the developmental environment in detail.

Book Synopsis Advances in Digital Speech Transmission by : Prof Rainer Martin
Download or read book Advances in Digital Speech Transmission written by Prof Rainer Martin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-02-28 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speech processing and speech transmission technology are expanding fields of active research. New challenges arise from the 'anywhere, anytime' paradigm of mobile communications, the ubiquitous use of voice communication systems in noisy environments and the convergence of communication networks toward Internet based transmission protocols, such as Voice over IP. As a consequence, new speech coding, new enhancement and error concealment, and new quality assessment methods are emerging. Advances in Digital Speech Transmission provides an up-to-date overview of the field, including topics such as speech coding in heterogeneous communication networks, wideband coding, and the quality assessment of wideband speech. Provides an insight into the latest developments in speech processing and speech transmission, making it an essential reference to those working in these fields Offers a balanced overview of technology and applications Discusses topics such as speech coding in heterogeneous communications networks, wideband coding, and the quality assessment of the wideband speech Explains speech signal processing in hearing instruments and man-machine interfaces from applications point of view Covers speech coding for Voice over IP, blind source separation, digital hearing aids and speech processing for automatic speech recognition Advances in Digital Speech Transmission serves as an essential link between the basics and the type of technology and applications (prospective) engineers work on in industry labs and academia. The book will also be of interest to advanced students, researchers, and other professionals who need to brush up their knowledge in this field.
