Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In opto-electronics and microwave technology, new research results are translated into technological developments and applications at a breathtaking pace. This congress and trade fair, held bienniallys since 1973, covers a broad spectrum of latest advances in laser technology, opto-electronics, and for the first time, microwave technology. The fundamental physical principles are explained in basic-level seminars, panel lectures provide an overview of major spezialized fields, and the latest results are described in individual lectures. This volume deals with the 12 papers presented at the Microwave Congress.

Book Synopsis RF Photonic Technology in Optical Fiber Links by : William S. C. Chang
Download or read book RF Photonic Technology in Optical Fiber Links written by William S. C. Chang and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-05-14 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many applications, radio frequency (RF) signals need to be transmitted and processed without being digitalized. Optical fiber provides a transmission medium in which RF modulated optical carriers can be transmitted and distributed with very low loss, making it more efficient and less costly than conventional electronic systems. This volume presents a review of RF photonic components, transmission systems, and signal processing examples in optical fibers from leading academic, government, and industry scientists working in this field. It also introduces the reader to various related technologies such as direct modulation of laser sources, external modulation techniques, and detectors. The text is aimed at engineers and scientists engaged in the research and development of optical fibers and analog RF applications. With an emphasis on design, performance and practical application, this book will be of particular interest to those developing systems based on this technology.

Download or read book Tribute to Emil Wolf written by Emil Wolf and published by SPIE Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wolf's contributions to optical physics go far beyond his co-writing, with Max Born, the classic Principles of Optics. He introduced spatial coherence, he was the first to describe Gabor's holography, and his work has served as the foundation of about 250 companies and corporate divisions in the English-speaking world. In these 23 essays, two of which are tributes to the life of Wolf, contributors consider aspects of his work such as the polarization of light, the electromagnetic theory of optical coherence, wave descriptions of optical measurements, holographic microscopy, optical physics and psychology, the Wolf effect and the Wolf shift, optical pathlength spectroscopy, the diffractive multifocal focusing effect, phase and information, holography, internal reflection tomography, and nano- optics. Book Synopsis Microwave Photonics by : Stavros Iezekiel
Download or read book Microwave Photonics written by Stavros Iezekiel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-03-23 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microwave photonics is an important interdisciplinary field that, amongst a host of other benefits, enables engineers to implement new functions in microwave systems. With contributions from leading experts, Microwave Photonics: Devices and Applications explores this rapidly developing discipline. It bridges a gap between microwave and photonic engineering, providing an accessible interpretation of the current available research material and a detailed introduction to various aspects of the area. Opening with an overview to the subject, this book covers direct modulation, photonic oscillators for THz signal generation, and terahertz sources. It takes a unique application- focused approach and describes: analogue fibre-optic links; fibre radio technology; microwave photonic signal processing; measurement of microwave photonic components, and; biomedical applications. This text is ideal for practising microwave and fibre optics communication engineers wishing to improve their knowledge, and for researchers and graduate students wanting an overview of the subject.
Book Synopsis Bibliography of Microwave Optical Technology by : A. F. Harvey
Download or read book Bibliography of Microwave Optical Technology written by A. F. Harvey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although microwaves and coherent optics, being two of the largest and most useful branches of electrical engineering to emerge technologically, are usually considered as distinct subjects, many of the underlying fundamental principles, scientific achievements, and practical applications have common features. Following the evolvment of the initial principles and techniques during the closing decade of the last century, microwave engineering has long matured to a stage of ready availability of components, automation and accuracy of measurement, economical manufacturing methods, and application of sophisticated systems. Further, this development of electromagnetic phenomena having spatial and temporal coherence has, based on several centuries of study and practice of noncoherent light, in the last two decades reached the optical region. Hence, it is now practicable to consider a comprehensive treatment of these two fields, division being made by subject matter rather than by the artificial distinctions of frequency and/or wavelength ranges. However, a full text on the combined subjects would be very large and unwieldy and, thus, this Bibliography is presented in the hope that it will prove useful as a compact reference source to a large body of workers and, by putting forward the latest scientific and technical advances, stimulate a multi-disciplinary approach. The material of the book commences with the fundamentals of radiation and matter, progressing through components and devices, amplification and generation, transmission, reception and processing of information, and methods of measurement to conclude with a wide range of applications.
