This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers selected and expanded contributions presented at the 5th Symposium on Space Optical Instruments and Applications, which was held in Beijing, China, on September 5–7, 2018. This conference series is organized by the Sino-Holland Space Optical Instruments Laboratory, a cooperative platform between China and the Netherlands. The symposium focused on key technological problems regarding optical instruments and their applications in a space context. It covered the latest developments, experiments and results on the theory, instrumentation and applications of space optics. The book is split into five main sections: The first covers optical remote sensing system design, the second focuses on advanced optical system design, and the third addresses remote sensor calibration and measurement. Remote sensing data processing and information extraction are then presented, followed by a final section on remote sensing data applications.
Book Synopsis Spectral Sensing Research For Surface And Air Monitoring In Chemical, Biological And Radiological Defense And Security Applications by : Jean-marc Theriault
Download or read book Spectral Sensing Research For Surface And Air Monitoring In Chemical, Biological And Radiological Defense And Security Applications written by Jean-marc Theriault and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009-08-11 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides unique perspectives on the state of the art in multispectral/hyperspectral techniques for early-warning monitoring against chemical, biological and radiological (CB&R) contamination of both surface (e.g. land) and air (e.g. atmospheric) environments through the presentation of a comprehensive survey of the novel spectroscopic methodologies and technologies that are emerging to address the CB&R defense and security challenges of the future. The technical content in this book lends itself to the non-traditional requirements for point and stand-off detection that have evolved out of the US joint services programs over many years. In particular, the scientific and technological work presented seeks to enable hyperspectral-based sensing and monitoring that is in real time and in-line; low in cost and labor requirements; and easy to support, maintain and use in military and security-relevant scenarios.
Book Synopsis Spectral Imaging of the Atmosphere by : Gordon G. Shepherd
Download or read book Spectral Imaging of the Atmosphere written by Gordon G. Shepherd and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-07-15 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical instruments are routinely employed to obtain a wealth of information about the atmosphere, including its composition, temperature, and winds. A bewildering variety of optical instruments have been proposed over the years, making it difficult to decide which instrument should be chosen to make a specific measurement. Spectral Imaging of the Atmosphere traces the historical development of both spectral and imaging methods and places them in a unified framework relevant to observations of the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere. The underlying concepts of various measurement methodologies are presented and paired with appropriate applications. A selection of specific spectral imaging instruments, appropriate to illustrate each conceptual type, is described in detail.Shepherd's work provides both scientists and engineers with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental concepts they need to know in order to plan a program of atmospheric measurements. Expected future methods and developments are also presented. Problems designed to test and enhance the reader's understanding of the material are included in each chapter. Provides a unique and unifed approach to the methodology of optical atmospheric observations from the troposphere through the thermosphere, which allows the practitioner to choose the best instrument for a given measurement.Describes state-of-the-art atmospheric observing instruments with an eye to future developments.Includes problems designed to test and enhance students' unerstanding of the material presented in each chapter.Contains concise descriptions of selected current and planned spectral imagers, including the Fabry-Perot spectrometer, the Michelson interferometer and the diffraction grating spectrometer.Written from a scientific perspective in an engineering framework, this work is accessible to atmospheric scientists and instrumentation engineers alike.

Book Synopsis The Earth as a Distant Planet by : M. Vázquez
Download or read book The Earth as a Distant Planet written by M. Vázquez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-12 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Earth as a Distant Planet, the authors become external observers of our solar system from a distance and try to determine how one can understand how Earth, the third in distance to the central star, is essentially unique and capable of sustaining life. The knowledge gained from this original perspective is then applied to the search for other planets outside the solar system, or exoplanets. Since the discovery in 1992 of the first exoplanet, the number of planet detections has increased exponentially and ambitious missions are already being planned for the future. The exploration of Earth and the rest of the rocky planets are Rosetta stones in classifying and understanding the multiplicity of planetary systems that exist in our galaxy. In time, statistics on the formation and evolution of exoplanets will be available and will provide vital information for solving some of the unanswered questions about the formation, as well as evolution of our own world and solar system. Special attention is paid to the biosignatures (signs of life) detectable in the Earth's reflected spectra and the search for life in the universe. The authors are experts on the subject of extrasolar planets. They provide an introductory but also very much up-to-date text, making this book suitable for researchers and for advanced students in astronomy and astrophysics.

Book excerpt: A comprehensive overview of the structure and variability of the upper atmosphere Earth's upper atmosphere is an open system that is strongly influenced by energy and momentum inputs from both above and below. New observation and modeing techniques have provided insights into dynamics, energetics, and chemical processes in the upper atmosphere. Upper Atmosphere Dynamics and Energetics presents an overview of key research advances in upper atmospheric physics, and measurement and modeling techniques, along with remaining challenges for understanding the state and variability of the upper atmospheric system. Volume highlights include: Insights into the interconnections between different areas of upper atmospheric science Appreciation of the dynamics and complexity of the global upper atmospheric system Techniques for observing and measuring the upper atmosphere Responses of the upper atmosphere to external drivers The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Book Synopsis Computer Vision - ECCV 2002 by : Anders Heyden
Download or read book Computer Vision - ECCV 2002 written by Anders Heyden and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 919 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Premiering in 1990 in Antibes, France, the European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV, has been held biennially at venues all around Europe. These conferences have been very successful, making ECCV a major event to the computer vision community. ECCV 2002 was the seventh in the series. The privilege of organizing it was shared by three universities: The IT University of Copenhagen, the University of Copenhagen, and Lund University, with the conference venue in Copenhagen. These universities lie ̈ geographically close in the vivid Oresund region, which lies partly in Denmark and partly in Sweden, with the newly built bridge (opened summer 2000) crossing the sound that formerly divided the countries. We are very happy to report that this year’s conference attracted more papers than ever before, with around 600 submissions. Still, together with the conference board, we decided to keep the tradition of holding ECCV as a single track conference. Each paper was anonymously refereed by three different reviewers. For the nal selection, for the rst time for ECCV, a system with area chairs was used. These met with the program chairsinLundfortwodaysinFebruary2002toselectwhatbecame45oralpresentations and 181 posters. Also at this meeting the selection was made without knowledge of the authors’identity.
