Two other new sections deal with low dimensional structures, an important and relatively recent development area, and the sensitivities of different methods for measuring ^In, ^Ik and ^Id. A new Appendix giving tabulated values of optical constants for a large number of elements, insulators and semiconductors at two common laser wavelengths completes the second edition. The author Leslie Ward has worked in the field of optical materials for about thirty years. He is the author of some 40 research publications and co-author of a book on the theory and practice of high-vacuum technology. From 1967 to 1982 he was Head of the Department of Applied Physics, and is currently an Honorary Research Fellow, at Coventry University.
