This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results: Significant changes in the fluorescence intensity and lifetime of the interfacial dentine before and after ageing were found under both cements in the demineralised dentine model samples. These optical changes were associated with significant increase in the Raman mineral peak after storage. Using KHN to indicate tissue type, the single and multiphoton fluorescence intensity, fluorescence lifetime, and SHG signal differentiated significantly between caries-infected, caries-affected and sound dentine. The cement groups showed significant fluorescence changes within infected and affected tissues, indicating possible mineralisation as they were associated with an increase in the mineral peak intensity. Tetracycline mineral-binding induced a reduction in the lifetime with comparable increase in the fluorescence intensity in the BiodentineTM and GIC groups within the affected and sound areas. Similar optical changes were detected as a band of mineralised structure under both cements with deeper infiltration of GIC within inter and peritubular dentine in the excavated caries samples. Conclusion: Two-photon microscopy can be efficiently used for non-invasive in-vitro diagnostic dentine caries characterisation. Studying the same lesion-restoration interface over time, changes in the fluorescence lifetime and intensity could indicate that mineralisation may have occurred within the dentine under GIC and calcium silicate cements (BiodentineTM).

Book Synopsis Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations by : Vesna Miletic
Download or read book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations written by Vesna Miletic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers both basic scientific and clinically relevant aspects of dental composite materials with a view to meeting the needs of researchers and practitioners. Following an introduction on their development, the composition of contemporary composites is analyzed. A chapter on polymerization explains the setting reactions and light sources available for light-cured composites. The quality of monomer-to-polymer conversion is a key factor for material properties. Polymerization shrinkage along with the associated stress remains among the most challenging issues regarding composite restorations. A new classification of dental composites is proposed to offer more clinically relevant ways of differentiating between commercially available materials. A review of specific types of composites provides an insight into their key issues. The potential biological issues of dental composites are reviewed in chapters on elution of leachable substances and cariogenicity of resin monomers. Clinical sections focus on material placement, finishing procedures, and the esthetics and clinical longevity of composite restorations. Bonding to tooth tissues is addressed in a separate chapter, as is the efficiency of various composite repair methods. The final chapter discusses future perspectives on dental composite materials.
Book Synopsis Mineral Trioxide Aggregate in Dentistry by : Josette Camilleri
Download or read book Mineral Trioxide Aggregate in Dentistry written by Josette Camilleri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-30 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was invented in the mid-1990s at Loma Linda University, USA, with the aim of introducing a material for use as a root-end filler that would set and develop its properties in the presence of moisture. MTA is a mixture of Portland cement and bismuth oxide, which is added to enhance the radiopacity of the material. These two components are mixed with water to produce hydrated cement. This book concisely presents information on diverse aspects of MTA and its use with a view to making it more widely available to clinicians and researchers. The topics covered include the development of MTA and its introduction into clinical dentistry, its chemical composition and setting characteristics, manipulation and placement, material properties, reactivity and the influence of environmental factors. The clinical applications are clearly explained and related innovations and further materials currently available on the market are also discussed.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Bioceramics and Biocomposites by : Iulian Vasile Antoniac
Download or read book Handbook of Bioceramics and Biocomposites written by Iulian Vasile Antoniac and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook describes several current trends in the development of bioceramics and biocomposites for clinical use in the repair, remodelling, and regeneration of bone tissue. Comprehensive coverage of these materials allows fundamental aspects of the science and engineering to be seen in close relation to the clinical performance of dental and orthopaedic implants. Bioceramics and biocomposites appear to be the most dynamic area of materials development for both tissue engineering and implantable medical devices. Almost all medical specialties will continue to benefit from these developments, but especially dentistry and orthopaedics. In this Handbook, leading researchers describe the use of bionanomaterials to create new functionalities when interfaced with biological molecules or structures. Also described are technologies for bioceramics and biocomposites processing in order to fabricate medical devices for clinical use. Another important section of the book is dedicated to tissue regeneration with development of new matrices. A targeted or personalized treatment device reduces drug consumption and treatment expenses, resulting in benefits to the patient and cost reductions for public health systems. This authoritative reference on the state-of-the-art in the development and use of bioceramics and biocomposites can also serve as the basis of instructional course lectures for audiences ranging from advanced undergraduate students to post-graduates in materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering.
