Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: REGINE is a research project on regularisation practices in the European Union. The aim of the project is to provide a thorough mapping of practices relating to the regularisation of third country nationals illegally resident in EU Member States. Two additional non-EU countries - Switzerland and the US - will also be covered to gain insights in regularisation practices and the impact of regularisations elsewhere. In examining regularisation practices, the project also investigates the relationship of regularisation policies to the overall migration policy framework, including to protection issues and refugee policies. Moreover, the project examines the political position of different stakeholders towards regularisation policies on the national level. Finally, the project examines potential options for policies on regularisation on the European level, incorporating Member States as well as other stakeholders' views on possible instruments on the European level.

Book Synopsis Employment in Household Services by :
Download or read book Employment in Household Services written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report gives an overview of the household services sector in the European Union, showing how the transformation of unpaid work traditionally carried out in the home is increasingly seen by policy makers as having potential for job creation. It looks at the current experiences of paid workers and examines trends, policies and best practice in this domain. Five main spheres are covered: childcare, eldercare, domestic cleaning, home maintenance and catering. The findings are drawn from research carried out in eight Member States: Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United Kingdom. The report addresses concerns about the quality of employment and working conditions in household services, as well as implications for equal opportunities and social inclusion. The conclusions present a sound basis for future policy initiatives in this field, which would lead to improved working conditions and training and career prospects for workers, as well as the provision of better quality services.

Book Synopsis Europe and Its Immigrants in the 21st Century by : Demetrios G. Papademetriou
Download or read book Europe and Its Immigrants in the 21st Century written by Demetrios G. Papademetriou and published by Migration Policy Institute and the Bertelsmann Foundation. This book was released on 2006 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: European policymakers are attempting to develop immigration policies that meet economic needs and promote greater competitiveness and growth —without undermining the social models so valued by their electorates. To succeed, they must take into account aging populations, high and persistent levels of overall unemployment, even higher levels of unemployment among immigrants and ethnic minorities, and sector- and location-specific labor mismatches and shortfalls. Europe and Its Immigrants in the 21st Century examines many of the critical issues facing European economies and societies with regard to immigration. The authors juxtapose these issues with those facing the "traditional countries of immigration" (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States) and offers policy recommendations to address them. Among other topics, this book examines options for immigrant selection and managing all forms of migration better (including "irregular" migration), and offers recommendations for immigrant and minority integration policies at the EU, national, and local levels - where most integration work takes place. Contributors include Wolfgang Lutz (Vienna Institute for Demography), Klaus Zimmerman (Institute for the Study of Labor/DIW, Berlin), Louka Katseli (OECD), Grete Brochman (Institute for Social Research, University of Oslo), Heaven Crawley (AMRE Consulting), Demetrios G. Papademetriou (Migration Policy Institute), Sarah Spencer (COMPAS, University of Oxford), Brian Ray (University of Ottawa), Rinus Pennix (University of Amsterdam), Jorge Gaspar (University of Lisbon), Lucinda Fonseca (Centro de Estudos Geográficos), Kathleen Newland (Migration Policy Institute), Doris Meissner (Migration Policy Institute), T. Book Synopsis What Happened to Goldman Sachs by : Steven G. Mandis
Download or read book What Happened to Goldman Sachs written by Steven G. Mandis and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the slow evolution of Goldman Sachs—addressing why and how the firm changed from an ethical standard to a legal one as it grew to be a leading global corporation. In What Happened to Goldman Sachs, Steven G. Mandis uncovers the forces behind what he calls Goldman’s “organizational drift.” Drawing from his firsthand experience; sociological research; analysis of SEC, congressional, and other filings; and a wide array of interviews with former clients, detractors, and current and former partners, Mandis uncovers the pressures that forced Goldman to slowly drift away from the very principles on which its reputation was built. Mandis evaluates what made Goldman Sachs so successful in the first place, how it responded to pressures to grow, why it moved away from the values and partnership culture that sustained it for so many years, what forces accelerated this drift, and why insiders can’t—or won’t—recognize this crucial change. Combining insightful analysis with engaging storytelling, Mandis has written an insider’s history that offers invaluable perspectives to business leaders interested in understanding and managing organizational drift in their own firms.
