Book Synopsis Convex Analysis and Monotone Operator Theory in Hilbert Spaces by : Heinz H. Bauschke
Download or read book Convex Analysis and Monotone Operator Theory in Hilbert Spaces written by Heinz H. Bauschke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference text, now in its second edition, offers a modern unifying presentation of three basic areas of nonlinear analysis: convex analysis, monotone operator theory, and the fixed point theory of nonexpansive operators. Taking a unique comprehensive approach, the theory is developed from the ground up, with the rich connections and interactions between the areas as the central focus, and it is illustrated by a large number of examples. The Hilbert space setting of the material offers a wide range of applications while avoiding the technical difficulties of general Banach spaces. The authors have also drawn upon recent advances and modern tools to simplify the proofs of key results making the book more accessible to a broader range of scholars and users. Combining a strong emphasis on applications with exceptionally lucid writing and an abundance of exercises, this text is of great value to a large audience including pure and applied mathematicians as well as researchers in engineering, data science, machine learning, physics, decision sciences, economics, and inverse problems. The second edition of Convex Analysis and Monotone Operator Theory in Hilbert Spaces greatly expands on the first edition, containing over 140 pages of new material, over 270 new results, and more than 100 new exercises. It features a new chapter on proximity operators including two sections on proximity operators of matrix functions, in addition to several new sections distributed throughout the original chapters. Many existing results have been improved, and the list of references has been updated. Heinz H. Bauschke is a Full Professor of Mathematics at the Kelowna campus of the University of British Columbia, Canada. Patrick L. Combettes, IEEE Fellow, was on the faculty of the City University of New York and of Université Pierre et Marie Curie – Paris 6 before joining North Carolina State University as a Distinguished Professor of Mathematics in 2016.
Book Synopsis Harmonic Analysis of Operators on Hilbert Space by : Béla Sz Nagy
Download or read book Harmonic Analysis of Operators on Hilbert Space written by Béla Sz Nagy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existence of unitary dilations makes it possible to study arbitrary contractions on a Hilbert space using the tools of harmonic analysis. The first edition of this book was an account of the progress done in this direction in 1950-70. Since then, this work has influenced many other areas of mathematics, most notably interpolation theory and control theory. This second edition, in addition to revising and amending the original text, focuses on further developments of the theory, including the study of two operator classes: operators whose powers do not converge strongly to zero, and operators whose functional calculus (as introduced in Chapter III) is not injective. For both of these classes, a wealth of material on structure, classification and invariant subspaces is included in Chapters IX and X. Several chapters conclude with a sketch of other developments related with (and developing) the material of the first edition.

Book Synopsis Real Analysis: A Comprehensive Course in Analysis, Part 1 by : Barry Simon
Download or read book Real Analysis: A Comprehensive Course in Analysis, Part 1 written by Barry Simon and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2015-11-02 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comprehensive Course in Analysis by Poincaré Prize winner Barry Simon is a five-volume set that can serve as a graduate-level analysis textbook with a lot of additional bonus information, including hundreds of problems and numerous notes that extend the text and provide important historical background. Depth and breadth of exposition make this set a valuable reference source for almost all areas of classical analysis. Part 1 is devoted to real analysis. From one point of view, it presents the infinitesimal calculus of the twentieth century with the ultimate integral calculus (measure theory) and the ultimate differential calculus (distribution theory). From another, it shows the triumph of abstract spaces: topological spaces, Banach and Hilbert spaces, measure spaces, Riesz spaces, Polish spaces, locally convex spaces, Fréchet spaces, Schwartz space, and spaces. Finally it is the study of big techniques, including the Fourier series and transform, dual spaces, the Baire category, fixed point theorems, probability ideas, and Hausdorff dimension. Applications include the constructions of nowhere differentiable functions, Brownian motion, space-filling curves, solutions of the moment problem, Haar measure, and equilibrium measures in potential theory.
Book Synopsis Elliptic Differential Operators and Spectral Analysis by : D. E. Edmunds
Download or read book Elliptic Differential Operators and Spectral Analysis written by D. E. Edmunds and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with elliptic differential equations, providing the analytic background necessary for the treatment of associated spectral questions, and covering important topics previously scattered throughout the literature. Starting with the basics of elliptic operators and their naturally associated function spaces, the authors then proceed to cover various related topics of current and continuing importance. Particular attention is given to the characterisation of self-adjoint extensions of symmetric operators acting in a Hilbert space and, for elliptic operators, the realisation of such extensions in terms of boundary conditions. A good deal of material not previously available in book form, such as the treatment of the Schauder estimates, is included. Requiring only basic knowledge of measure theory and functional analysis, the book is accessible to graduate students and will be of interest to all researchers in partial differential equations. The reader will value its self-contained, thorough and unified presentation of the modern theory of elliptic operators.

Book Synopsis Basic Operator Theory by : Israel Gohberg
Download or read book Basic Operator Theory written by Israel Gohberg and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: rii application of linear operators on a Hilbert space. We begin with a chapter on the geometry of Hilbert space and then proceed to the spectral theory of compact self adjoint operators; operational calculus is next presented as a nat ural outgrowth of the spectral theory. The second part of the text concentrates on Banach spaces and linear operators acting on these spaces. It includes, for example, the three 'basic principles of linear analysis and the Riesz Fredholm theory of compact operators. Both parts contain plenty of applications. All chapters deal exclusively with linear problems, except for the last chapter which is an introduction to the theory of nonlinear operators. In addition to the standard topics in functional anal ysis, we have presented relatively recent results which appear, for example, in Chapter VII. In general, in writ ing this book, the authors were strongly influenced by re cent developments in operator theory which affected the choice of topics, proofs and exercises. One of the main features of this book is the large number of new exercises chosen to expand the reader's com prehension of the material, and to train him or her in the use of it. In the beginning portion of the book we offer a large selection of computational exercises; later, the proportion of exercises dealing with theoretical questions increases. We have, however, omitted exercises after Chap ters V, VII and XII due to the specialized nature of the subject matter.

Book Synopsis A Course in Operator Theory by : John B. Conway
Download or read book A Course in Operator Theory written by John B. Conway and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operator theory is a significant part of many important areas of modern mathematics: functional analysis, differential equations, index theory, representation theory, mathematical physics, and more. This text covers the central themes of operator theory, presented with the excellent clarity and style that readers have come to associate with Conway's writing. Early chapters introduce and review material on $C^*$-algebras, normal operators, compact operators, and non-normal operators. Some of the major topics covered are the spectral theorem, the functional calculus, and the Fredholm index. In addition, some deep connections between operator theory and analytic functions are presented. Later chapters cover more advanced topics, such as representations of $C^*$-algebras, compact perturbations, and von Neumann algebras. Major results, such as the Sz.-Nagy Dilation Theorem, the Weyl-von Neumann-Berg Theorem, and the classification of von Neumann algebras, are covered, as is a treatment of Fredholm theory. The last chapter gives an introduction to reflexive subspaces, which along with hyperreflexive spaces, are one of the more successful episodes in the modern study of asymmetric algebras. Professor Conway's authoritative treatment makes this a compelling and rigorous course text, suitable for graduate students who have had a standard course in functional analysis.
Book Synopsis Theoretical Foundations of Functional Data Analysis, with an Introduction to Linear Operators by : Tailen Hsing
Download or read book Theoretical Foundations of Functional Data Analysis, with an Introduction to Linear Operators written by Tailen Hsing and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical Foundations of Functional Data Analysis, with an Introduction to Linear Operators provides a uniquely broad compendium of the key mathematical concepts and results that are relevant for the theoretical development of functional data analysis (FDA). The self–contained treatment of selected topics of functional analysis and operator theory includes reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, singular value decomposition of compact operators on Hilbert spaces and perturbation theory for both self–adjoint and non self–adjoint operators. The probabilistic foundation for FDA is described from the perspective of random elements in Hilbert spaces as well as from the viewpoint of continuous time stochastic processes. Nonparametric estimation approaches including kernel and regularized smoothing are also introduced. These tools are then used to investigate the properties of estimators for the mean element, covariance operators, principal components, regression function and canonical correlations. A general treatment of canonical correlations in Hilbert spaces naturally leads to FDA formulations of factor analysis, regression, MANOVA and discriminant analysis. This book will provide a valuable reference for statisticians and other researchers interested in developing or understanding the mathematical aspects of FDA. It is also suitable for a graduate level special topics course.
Book Synopsis Analysis in Banach Spaces by : Tuomas Hytönen
Download or read book Analysis in Banach Spaces written by Tuomas Hytönen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of Analysis in Banach Spaces, Probabilistic Methods and Operator Theory, is the successor to Volume I, Martingales and Littlewood-Paley Theory. It presents a thorough study of the fundamental randomisation techniques and the operator-theoretic aspects of the theory. The first two chapters address the relevant classical background from the theory of Banach spaces, including notions like type, cotype, K-convexity and contraction principles. In turn, the next two chapters provide a detailed treatment of the theory of R-boundedness and Banach space valued square functions developed over the last 20 years. In the last chapter, this content is applied to develop the holomorphic functional calculus of sectorial and bi-sectorial operators in Banach spaces. Given its breadth of coverage, this book will be an invaluable reference to graduate students and researchers interested in functional analysis, harmonic analysis, spectral theory, stochastic analysis, and the operator-theoretic approach to deterministic and stochastic evolution equations.
